First time I’ve been to a channel that deserves millions of views when there are only a few. Keep this up and you’re going to blow up. I didn’t search for you, UA-cam recommenced your video. Awesome content, I wish you the best.
Stumbled across one of your videos, and now I'm hooked, watching your vanlife adventures with your beautiful dog Akela. Linnea, I'd like to thank you for giving me the courage to try and convert my VW Caddy Maxi van in to a micro campervan myself. I've now subscribed to your channel. Take care and safe travels.
I love watching your videos. A tip for anyone using your bed frame design. The cross member 2 x 4s should be rotated 90 degrees on end so they are stiffer and don't sag in the middle. This can reduce the 2 x 10 to a 2 x 8 for the end supports to maintain the same height.
For sure, but that takes another 3/4" height from your garage. I'm thinking she considered that and opted for more space and a bit more flex when the bed's in use
You are killing this whole process! Just curious how you are so knowledgeable with everything? All the tools, knowing what to do? Many girls wouldn't have a clue? I'm so impressed!!! And your dog is beautiful!!
@@Linneaandakela This blew my mind!! I hadn't heard anyone else talk about this before, but it makes sense! Thankfully I've seen this pre-installation so will be doing this myself too :D thanks for your videos!
As I've said before, YOUR VIDEOS ARE GREAT! Realistic, practical information for beginners. One suggestion for finding where to drill for the rivet nuts. If you goob (professional term) some play dough, about where you think the hole should be, onto the back of board/whatever you need to attach, you can simply push the item into place and the indentation of your rivet nut will show exactly where to drill. Easy to clean off playdough after drilling.
Or use a double ended screw. Screw one end into the rivet nut and push the wood up against it. There will then be a mark in the wood exactly where the drill hole should be.
I realize this comment is very late ..just started watching your videos...love your attention to detail.. I think you did a better job installing your windows than the professionals that do it for a living ..maybe you should be a consultant and help people w/ more difficult parts of conversion . I would hire you and wait for you to come up our way ...Oregon or we could meet you in Sedona , Arizona .. there is must see beauty in both places ..I am serious ..you seem very conscientious and you do excellent work ...harder and harder to find . :)
Are you certainly done your research, and I appreciate you sharing these bill videos, I just got my RamPro Master 2500 and I am beginning all my research :-)
Omg you are awesome! I have been watching and wanted to do this !! Now I know I can. Thanks to you and how your sharing on how to step by step doing this..
Hey Linnea & Akela!!! You could have used rivnuts to secure those 2x10s to the ribs. I see that you shop by price; another idea that says a lot about how practical you are. I'll definitely look into Noico for sound deadening. Another great job and Thank you for sharing. 😎
I love your videos ❤️ it’s great to see another female doing this on their own. I am starting my build in about two weeks (if I can get the van I am currently looking at). Can’t wait to see more.
I’m taking notes... I’m probably six months until I begin. Question here is did you put the sound deadening under the flooring? I don’t remember seeing you do that and would you recommend doing that? I am loving your videos!! Thank you
I did not. But with everything that I have done with my floor, I am not sure I needed it. My van is VERY quiet. If there ends up being extra it wouldn't hurt of course! Thank you for the support!! And good luck with the build, that is so exciting!
This is the first time I've heard of using sound deadening material in a van conversion. It must really make a difference in the livability in the van, though. It's pretty interesting, how that stuff must work since you only have to use it in small portions of whole panels. Weird stuff. Very interesting.
RE: Bolts, they have this cool tool/product that inserts nuts behind your sheet metal . if you think you maybe doing some more nuts and bolts. Nut Serts I bought mine at Harbor freight. Subbed to your channel last week. My wife and I are starting on a van build. Dave and Suzanne, Cedar City.
That sounds great! At first I hadn’t planned on it, but now I am considering adding more bolts in other structures just to be safe. I will definitely check that out. THANK YOU! And good luck! We live so close, we will have to check out each other’s builds when they are done!
Just an FYI, if you ever have to attach anything like that in the future you can have someone put some "Rivet nuts" into the sheet metal. Then you won't need to access the back side to tighten the bolt. Any local body shop will likely do it for a minimal cost, or your can buy the tool and a rivet nut assortment for $50 - $100.
Your videos are so great! I am also converting a Ram Promaster and was curious if you thought rivets would work instead of bolting those pieces for your head board? Thanks!
Your videos are helping me tremendously on planning out my build! One question, if you did it again, would you use the rivnut tool to attach the bedframe to the walls like you did the garage?
I don't know about van's but I do have a degree in mathematics and I understand sound waves because they obey all the same rules as all other waves, it's a very mathematical topic. So can you explain how covering so little of the inside with that sound deadening material would help? Personally I would guess that having all the wooden stuff like the bed, the floor, a kitchen and anything else made of wood would absorb the sound waves. So I wouldn't think you would need to worry too much about the sound deadening material. Buy a thick rug it'll absorb sound waves.
I have a question for you, why bother using the 2 by twos. The van already has ridges. What if you just put the insulation down but lower than The Ridges then glue the plywood directly onto the van floor. Seems like that would work the same but cost less immaterial and use less weight. I'll be starting my build soon.
It probably would. But I honestly don't think I even needed to include the Noico. Once my insulation went in, it changed everything! So if I were doing another build I'm not sure that I would include it
You’re supposed to roll out those bumps on the sound deadening mats. That’s why people use a roller. The flatter you roll out those bubbles, the better it will work.
Your carpenter skills sure came in handy.

The added stability from that 90 rotation is best option. Even if you lose a little height
That worried face at 4:50 is so relatable.
I want to build one of these..
You are the absolute best out there for van conversions!
This is fascinating. I can’t wait to see the van continue to develop into a home!

Here because a minute video on tik tok is not enough. Love the videos and knowledge. Thank you for sharing

Glad I found someone else that didn't cover every square inch in sound deadening! Thought I was doing something wrong there for a second.
Yes, I am happy that both of us made the smart decision and saved some money along the way!

Yes it is tedious putting in a sub floor, as much as the wall insulation but so worth it in the long run.
Love the bed progress/bloopers 😆 👍

My thought is that bc soundwaves are vibrations, they dampening of say the middle percentage breaks up the overall waves of the sound.

what opted you not to get a poly urethane to protect the stained wood?
So how do you decide where to place the sound deadening ?
Somebody get her a Ratcheting Torque Wrench set lmao
Would sound proofing the floor and ceiling help deaden the noice a bit more?
It probably would. But I honestly don't think I even needed to include the Noico. Once my insulation went in, it changed everything! So if I were doing another build I'm not sure that I would include it
U must hv been the smartest person in ur class
What size bolts did you use?!
Very good yes mzz pilgrims ..burrt norr as good as ya draws ..😁pip pips
Cakes !
If you had notched your 2x4 into the top edge of the 2x10. Your top\plywood, would have been flush = distributing the weight over >>>the entire length
Why did you put your bed frame up so high? I plan on putting mine lower
For as much storage space under it! I have a lot of outdoor/adventure gear for both Akela and I, so it’s amazing having enough space for it all

Linnea, hi, what size bolt is that at minute 2.31, length and width? 3/8? or 5/8? 2 1/2" long or 3" long?
