I own both the X100V and the Ricoh GR IIIx. The camera I take with me most often is the Ricoh GR IIIx. I really love the IBIS-it allows me to shoot non-moving objects at shutter speeds as slow as 1/20 or even 1/10 of a second. The Fuji doesn’t come close in terms of size. The Ricoh is truly pocketable, while the Fuji is not. As for the EVF, people are begging Ricoh to add one, but not having it can actually encourage more creative shooting, such as shooting from high or top angles. Not to mention the JPG photos that Ricoh creates. They are so easy to edit and very eye pleasing. The "Image Sync" app is also the fastest to operate and transfer photos to my Android phone, beating the Fujifilm's X app and Lumix Lab app. That being said, many people these days hunt for Fujifilm cameras. Partly due to the hype. I think they should be seeking out of the box and try different camera brands.
I agree on many of these points! I do wish the Ricoh had some kind of flip screen for those different angle shots, but I wouldn't be willing to trade off with an increase in size!
I own both cameras, and I prefer the Ricoh’s images over the Fuji’s. The Fuji’s white balance and exposure meter can be inconsistent, often resulting in noticeable variations in contrast from shot to shot. The Ricoh is much more consistent and truly pocketable. The only reason I keep the Fuji is to take it out on date nights; otherwise, I’m shooting with either my main camera or the Ricoh.
Between the GRIII and the X100, don't forget the Fuji XM5. It's small - between the GRiii and the X100, delivers good images and you can use different lenses.
Using a Ricoh GR3 and GR3X along side a Leica M11 and honestly, the Ricoh is so damn good that I have to check the info to see which camera shot the photo. When you work on the files the Leica has a bit more of everything (and not by any amount that matters in most meaningful real terms) but really, for my travels etc the Ricoh is so good that I would happily shoot with it all day instead of the Leica and not feel like I was missing out. Plus the fact it slips in to my pocket and nobody is going to want to steal it is a massive plus. They're amazing cameras for photographers, and all most people would ever need (that includes me as well, as a previously pro photographer for around 10 years).
being able to go under the radar when shooting on the Ricoh is a massive bonus! interesting about the Leica, I've never shot on one, definitely on the bucket list!
I have a bunch of both. The IIIX is a better comparison to the x100. And I have the q2/q3 from Leica. I love fixed lens cameras for travel I’m a flight attendant.

I tried both, I own the X100VI and had the X100F as well. It is true that Ricoh is much more compact and portable BUT there is an inconvenience you did not talk about: battery life. You see if you have a Ricoh, whatever model you need at least 3 batteries with you at all times. Combine that with lower performance and lack of video features and for me is a no brainer: the x100VI wins, and even the older models like V and F. What I normally do to make the camera more compact is to remove the lens hood and just leave the filter on. Sure, it is not as cool looking but it fits in my cargo pants pocket or in my jacket easily. I hope there is a Ricoh GR 4 coming out with better battery life cos that would make a much much better competition for Fuji. And if they put some solid AF in that as well, I can see a lot of users switiching.
That silicone camera body cover on the Fujifilm should be considered a crime. How are you going to cover up a beautiful looking camera design like that? 😂 Also worth mentioning that you can technically add the Fujifilm wide conversion lens to the X100VI to achieve a wider 18mm focal length (model # WCL-X100II).
hahaha I have a love hate relationship with the silicone cover, but it has protected from any scratches so far! I normally only put it on when travelling and the camera is going in and out of bags
Tbh really depends on personal choice - if you are a slow methodical user Fuji with all the manual dials is for you. Ricoh is for snapshot shooting - street photography but hate to keep rely on your phone or just want a better camera than your phone. Both have different film / filter simulation but again depends on your personal taste or doesn't matter if you do a lot of post edits. I personally carry my ricoh everywhere but also have a small film camera with me for more memorable / scenic moments.
I think this is a lovely summary, I like Ricoh and it feels like I'm documenting something in my daily life, Fujifilm feels like I'm going out to shoot something
hi there, thank you, great vid. I am getting scared when I see the performance in handling on the GR... ;-) just ordered mine, a couple of years too late, but I am sick of my sony rx image looks (and it´s lame handling) and sick of "compact cameras" which in fact are not compact, only a bit smaller than others. Also, e.g. handling 2 small and dynamic kids and taking great photos (e.g. yesterday on a Nikon Z f and the 35 mm f1.4) can make me look funny... ;-) In general, after real-life shooting sessions (aka daily life) I gravitate towards 28 mm. not just in areas more tiny (like parts of Lisboa). When I look at my archive and reflect I find both, images where I was not close enough (but there is a fix for that ;-) ) and images where I miss environment, "the situation" (there is NO fix for that). 24 mm is getting more difficult, so, maybe 28 mm is the sweet spot - at least for me. Re "next" - why not a Z6iii vs z50ii? Or A7cii/cr vs Nikon Z6iii/Z7ii? (I am getting tired with Fuji, their focus on lifestyle and loosing AF plus ugly high iso look plus: pushing the x100 so heavily, in particular as compact, while it´s not, only small(er))
28mm does seem like a lovely in between, not too cropped but not too wide! The Nikon ZF is a great option too though, would love to get my hands on one of those
I know the Fujifilm is considered a compact camera, but the Ricoh GR is much more compact, more stealthy than the Fujifilm and produces fantastic pictures. For me the Fujifilm was just a bit too bulky for travel, wanting to travel lightweight.
interesting, it's a feature I haven't tried too much of, because my style of photography doesn't seem to demand it too much, but will have to check it out for sure!
I bought the x100vi and loved it. But I also love the softness and calmness of the Ricoh Gr3x colors. Anybody know how to simulate those soft colors of the Ricoh Gr3x on the X100vi?
I've used both. People should stop comparing these cameras, they're completely different and for completely different users. One is a pocketable iphone camera replacement the other is the most compact of the flagship spec cameras from Fujifilm. The GRIII is better compared to cameras like the Canon G7x or the Sony cybershot RX100M7.
Video is non-existent in the Ricoh. Neither is auto focus to be fair. But who auto focus with the GR? Can’t believe you didn’t talk about snap focus with the GR.
Well, one unknown lady promoted Fujifilm X100V on Tiktalk and then, this model and its successor became mega hit cameras! One of the biggest jokes of 21st century in the camera industry. In reality, any old CCD pocket digicam produces similar, if not superior, images in skilled hands rather easy. However, no denying that, such hypes are good business for manufacturers and dealers.
I'm not gonna wear a camera in my pocket, it is just not comfortable, the most i can tolerate is a phone and a paper wallet. I keep my camera in a small sling bag
@@cristibaluta It's not that I can't focus on the screen so much as I have to contort myself to get the screen in the near vision cuts in my glasses. Plus I find the rear screens difficult to read in bright sunlight. I have a X100V and the diopter correction is sufficient when wearing my glasses. As much as I think the Ricoh (and the Fuji X-M5) is a great camera and I'd love to have one, I think I would find myself frustrated without an EVF. Hence, I made my comment in case there are others out there with old eyes. ;)
Just a different experience with an EVF. For everyday snapshots Ricoh is great. If you are ever interested in a compact try one of those Sony RX cameras they come with a EVF. For me comparing the Sony RX series and Ricoh would have been a better comparison. IMO the Fujifilm cameras with their form factor is more of a mid range budget version compared to the Leica rangefinders (though both are not cheap).
@ I agree regarding the EVF. I started down the mirrorless path with a NEX-5N and after a few days bought the external EVF. It's partly because I grew up with SLRs and so the use-approach works for me. I also agree about the Sony RX/Ricoh comparison maybe being a bit better. I have no experience with the RX series. I also agree about the Fuji/Leica comparison, although I have not gone down the Leica rabbithole (an expensive trip it would be!). I considered the rangefinder approach and it has appeal, but I'm not sure it would suit my style of photography and so I have not gone that way (yet). Thanks for the thoughts.
What cameras do you want to see us put head to head next? 👀
Nikon D5600?
X100vi vs zf
Rx100vii vs lumix zs80 or powershot g7
More Gabriel on the channel please! Lovely concise delivery with no waffle. Solid real life comparison
He’s got a pretty good and helpful YT channel. Saw him pop up and was like oh man, that guy, I like him lol.
love the delivery of this video!! will have to go for both cameras
having both is certainly a luxury!
shooting digital from the start - Ricoh GR3X is the best camera I ever used
I own both the X100V and the Ricoh GR IIIx. The camera I take with me most often is the Ricoh GR IIIx. That was so incredibly clearly presented and watchable. Thanks.

Thinking about renting a X100VI someday, for a certain event

This city is so beautiful, one of my favourites. Great vid dude! 🤙🏼

Are you using any recipe on the Fuji?
I was using classic chrome, which I think is the closest match to the Ricoh's Positive Film
I guess it depends on your use case, but the GR is a joy to travel with
the Ricoh in a small sling bag or just in the pocket feels like a cheat code for sure!
X70 ftw 😁👍
now we're talking, I'm hoping there's an X70ii around the corner!
I’d love to see a full frame Ricoh GR 35mm (or 40 :)). I used to own a 28mm GRII and now I love my X100F
anything to give the Leica Q a bit of competition would be great for sure!
Interesting video. Unfortunately both cameras are back ordered and at least in the US are unavailable.
Are you sure? The GRIII is pretty widely available from what I’ve seen!
i love Ricoh Gr3 after i rent both camera at last vocation
It is liz! More runs please 😅

I think I’m team fujifilm 👀

Agreed on this one! having the Ricoh in a sling bag around the chest feels excellent
Would you mind sharing what camera you used to shoot this video? Thanks!
Hi, it's me (in the video) I used a Sony ZV-E1 with a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 with a 1/8 pro-mist, shot in Slog3 and a quick color grade
@ Thanks so much for sharing! It looks great!
If I ever see a IV next to Ricohs GR then I’m buying 🎉
Lol riiight! Both are still very hard to get at MSRP
iii or iiix is good enough. Just tape up or the mic vents and use a lens cap.
yep, still waiting for that one! will be very excited when it gets announced!
The best is a MFT with some zoom lens
Rick-oh vs Reek-oh ??
depends on if you say Scone or Scone!
The GR snap focus is faster than any auto focus

Fujilove❤
The iiix is a more direct comparison with a 40mm equivalent lens.
well if fuji would just make a x80...
Team ricoh 📸
Good look with the Ricoh in your pocket. You will have dust on your sensor in no time.
Lumix DC-LX100

Great,,,
Best travel camera: Panasonic LX10. 😉
Wouldn’t the Ricoh GRIIIX & HDF be newer and better comparison? Especially since it’s newer…..
The only thing "new" about those is the hdf filter and 40mm lens. No improvement in processing power.
I'm not gonna wear a camera in my pocket, it is just not comfortable, the most i can tolerate is a phone and a paper wallet. I keep my camera in a small sling bag
No EVF is a deal killer for me. I love the idea of a very small camera, but my old eyes need the EVF.
If your eyes are bad you might not even have enough diopter adjustments for the evf
@@cristibaluta It's not that I can't focus on the screen so much as I have to contort myself to get the screen in the near vision cuts in my glasses. Plus I find the rear screens difficult to read in bright sunlight.

I'm a fuji owner, considering you cant' even get a 100VI for who knows how long, kind of makes this video pointless
Courses for horses. Who cares?!
team fuji!
