Ferns - Community Excavations at Clone

The IAFS recently began the Discovering St Aidan’s Monastery Project, when they undertook a targeted program of surveys and excavation at the site of Clone, Co Wexford, in partnership with the local community. These excavations confirmed a monastery at the site, only 2.5km from Ferns. The site is also associated to St Aidan and the connection to the main monastery at Ferns continues to be explored. The excavation was part funded by the IAFS as well as through the Rediscovering Ancient Connections Project, a new cross-border arts and heritage project linking Pembrokeshire and Wexford.
