    Excellent camera shots which explain the individual steps. Thanks for the effort put into these videos.
    Having taken Kite Surfing lessons for a couple of seasons on the beach and from rubber dinghys in open water, if I had watched these videos before then the lessons would have been easier and even more enjoyable.
    The ability to breakdown multi-step activities into the individual steps and then to synch the voice instructions with the video takes alot of work but it is done here in such a way that the observer is not aware of it at all and can concentrate on the individual steps. Also, the voice quality is excellent because you had the foresight to narrate this after the video was made instead of competing with the wind and noise on the beach as most others have done (which is very distracting for the viewers).
    I am viewing these videos now while there is 10 cm of snow on the ground to prepare for next summer and to review what I have already learned in preparation for a first attempt at snowboarding.

      If you learn in tough conditions, you will be better prepared in the long run. Bodydragging in waves is more difficult. You can't see the kite if a wave hits you, but if your kite control is excellent then you'll be okay. Also, another issue in light wind, is if a wave pushes you towards the kite, then the kite can drop as your lines go slack. If you know a wave is going to push you towards the kite, you may need to move the kite up and down to keep it in the air.

    READ ME guys one of the most undervalued thing is that often it's enough going down wind less fast of the board, for this reason I invite you to pay attention at the angle up wind you are aiming for, if you aim too up wind with the body you will end to stall and going down wind!

    I'm in the process of learning to kite and have taken a lesson and have my own equipment. So for what it's worth,,,these are the best instructional videos on youtube i have found... The videos are to the point and very professional. And they cover the most important aspects of the kiteboard basics without overwhelming the student. Which means you will have to watch them several times to take away the full meanings.

    Thank you so much for the tutorial. I’m a beginner. I have no problem doing body drag when the water is relatively flat. However, I find it really difficult to start body dragging from the beach when the waves are big (eg. 2.5 m per wind guru). Once the waves break, my board and myself are washed back to the shore. Can you share some tips in overcoming this problem?

  • @mikejohn1202

    If you seek to rush past mastering how to effectively body drag you just end up looking like the obvious newbie your trying not to look like as you keep walking back up the beach because you haven't mastered riding upwind. "Where's my board bro ... yo dude, see my board...?" Learn to fetch it by this technique and it can save your life. Master this and save everyone the headaches.

    • @kitesurfcollege
      @kitesurfcollege  4 роки тому +1

      Thankyou. You will get a few waves in the face when bodydragging. It's often worse for learners as they don't see the waves approaching and don't prepare. Also, it can help to get your belly button pointing down. Then you can arch your back (look at 0:30 or 1:30 and you will see her belly is down and her head is clear of the water). Often learners end up with their belly facing up, as the harness pulls them that way - then it's difficult to get your head clear of the water.

      @@kitesurfcollege I think I tend to kind of lie on my side - ear on my shoulder - arm facing the dirction, it's a bit hard to understasnd the body position in the water.
      my guess is that the arm isn't aligned straight with the body - thus allowing the head to stay above

    In unstable offshore wind, if I loose a board and my kite drops and cant be lifted because wind is on edge (and me not skillful enough) , so it just pulls me too much...2-5 minutes...too far away...to quickly.............what should I do? Is any kind of bodydrag possible with kite on water?
    (i know I can call a boat, stop and self rescue, use leash for board-to risky, try not to "loose ground"...) , so the question is should I invest all effort in lifting a kite, also if in a moment is impossible, or should I try "as much body drag possible " with kite on water until wind kicks back..?

    I took a course but simply could not body drag and obviously they would not let me do the water start to progress. The water was really shallow though and it was just uncomfortable, knees and feet getting dragged on the ground and could not keep my balance.
    Do you think it's easier to do in deeper water? I really want to progress and I don't think I have much problems with the board but this thing is keeping me back :(

    • @kitesurfcollege
      @kitesurfcollege  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Jakke. I have heard similar thoughts from enthusiastic students or learners in a rush before. First, you need to know that learning to kitesurf is complicated and takes time. It's an order of magnitude more technical than surfing or snowboarding. You cannot rush at first, otherwise you could get hurt. You should be able to bodydrag in 20cm of water easily. In fact, you should be able to bodydrag while having a conversation and checking out the view and never crashing the kite. Only then are you really getting the hang of controlling the kite. Be patient. Maybe even go back to controlling the kite. If you can't control the kite with ease, there is no hope to bodydrag well. However, you should be able to bodydrag well after a couple of hours of lessons with a good instructor. Personally, I normally have students bodydragging independantly in under an hour - but then I have taught several thousand lessons. There is huge variation in the standard of kite instructors, and it makes a big difference. I've seen instructors whose students can't fly a kite after 10 hours. So maybe try another instructor to see if that helps. Good luck.

    Are there any videos with a better explanation of body dragging with the board? I have an Ozone Base v2 so it's a fairly large beginner board.

    • @kitesurfcollege
      @kitesurfcollege  10 місяців тому

      Hi. There's only a short section on that at 4:04. That's because if you master body dragging without a board (bodydragging upwind easily, forming your front hand and body into a straight line, not aiming too far upwind etc), then adding a board isn't too complicated. If your bodygragging without a board is iffy and takes your full concentration, then you'll have problems as the board is a distraction. While bodydragging the board merely acts as an extension of your front hand. With a large board, if you find it unwieldy to hold by the handle, you can tuck more of the board against your body and hold the front foot strap (this can be useful for boards over 145cm).

    • @rumplestiltskin5612
      @rumplestiltskin5612 10 місяців тому

      @@kitesurfcollege Thanks, I'll keep that in mind on my next day it's windy enough to try it. The body drag itself is fairly simple, I just couldn't get a comfortable grip/position on the board. I was considering grabbing the front foot strap next time. so it's nice to know I was on the right train of thought. Love the videos.

    Board recover, ~3:15": How are both directions upwind?

    • @angelopap5954
      @angelopap5954 4 роки тому +1

      Well, I had the same question myself..however if we notice the kiters initial path, we notice that although
      she is moving away from the board, she is actually gaining ground towards the upwind side of the board.
      This will become clear, if you consider an imaginary perpendicular line from the board position to the wind
      direction (as indicated by the arrow), just watch her zig-zag path and it will all be clear to you.
      I hope this helped a bit..

    • @kitesurfcollege
      @kitesurfcollege  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Aris, look carefully at the wind arrow during the entire board recovery. Overall she must head upwind to return to the board. On the port tack she drags about 30 degrees upwind. She actually gets in line with the board just in the first tack (by in line I mean not upwind or downwind of the board). As she turns, she's pulled downwind a little. So then on the startboard tack, she starts dragging upwind about 30 degrees again for a short while. However, very soon she is in line with the board (she doesn't need to head any further upwind), so she starts dragging crosswind during the final approach to grab the board.

    This is a good video, but, one part of this video is COMPLETELY wrong.
    If you point 45 to 70° upwind you will most certainly NOT travel upwind. The "crosswind " angle that you mention is the only angle here, that will take you up wind.

  • @Vara91391
    @Vara91391 7 років тому +5

    IKO lessons horrible regarding body drag. If winds above 15 kts with a bit of current, forget it, you won't reach the board with this simple tactic. You will have to basically use an arm as a fin, and head forward (head mostly under water), zig-zagging towards kite... good luck if waves also present...you will swallow a few cups of sea water before you reach it. I wish IKO would emphasize more on proper body drag, not the simple, no current, low wind version like in this video...
