Wow, this feels like eight completely unrelated games strung together! I remember seeing screenshots in a magazine back in the day but I never saw the game in action before now!
I recognize Lipps Inc.'s "Funkytown" during the jungle chase portion, and I feel like I ought to recognize the other music clips, particularly when you're on the pirate ship saving Cheri. Anybody able to identify them? This is one of those puzzlers that I'll only figure out ten years from now, a eureka moment waking me from a sound sleep and a really good dream at 3 am...
I'm surprised they didn't get sued by Lucas film for the Star Wars\Obi-wan "Let go" sound in the beginning. Still a great classic game though and a blast to play today.
Thank you for sharing this game I played the arcade game when it was new it is not very known people have thought I was crazy when I talked about it thinking it never did exist like a lot of things I know. I even forget the title sometimes.
I like the “BOOMbaddabaddabaddaBOOMbaddabaddabaddah!!” chant the cannibal does. Also the “HELP ME” scream sounds almost identical to the ones in Konami’s Jail Break and Rock ‘n Rage. I guess maybe they used a similar speech chip or something.....
You know what I love even more? That it wasn’t edited when it came out on PS4, Switch and Xbox One. Any other time, it would have been rendered unrecognizable from its original form.
I'm convinced a remake of this game would work if they just leaned on the cheesiness and the rough artwork. You know, have the sprites be made of construction paper and have them stiffly move around like in a stop motion television special.
1.This game makes history, because this is the first game that have a continue feature 2.The only character that i liked in this game is the glaring cyan cloud
Interestingly the music at 7:50 is very similar to a song by Cusco. Compare it to this: ua-cam.com/video/UytS-xMWHu8/v-deo.htmlsi=KAxc2fhrnVQDqgBK&t=50 What's odd is that song came out in 1992, although Cusco had been around since 1980, a year prior to this video game's release, and I have no idea what their first two albums were like. Maybe this song was on there. Or maybe in a strange twist, the band was inspired by the game.
Yeah, ok... Funkytown, funny voices... but are we all just going to ignore that this dude traveled at least 9,000 kilometers (1/3 of that _on foot_ ) to save this girl?
They should remake this game into a film. It would probably star the Rock and Emily Blunt as the Rock must take on pirates, dinosaurs, cannibals, and helicopters in his search for his loved one, culminating in the final climatic battle on the London Bridge where he must guide the helicopter's own anti-aircraft gun to kill the helicopters themselves! Riveting!

I wonder if they chose to use “Funkytown” just to be funny because it seems like an area very far away from any sort of town. Or maybe I’m just reading into things too much.
@@dingdongism Does every comment have to be a serious discussion of the "save the helpless damsel" trope? Aren't we allowed to say things in jest maybe? :)
@@Bunnellius Personally, I'm pretty tired of being in a culture where hating women is this casually accepted. You're "allowed" to do whatever you want, but that reasoning is childish and dumb and you know it. You're allowed to piss into a cup and drink it for breakfast. That doesn't mean it's a good idea.

To make it look more close to what playing a perfect game would look like. And really, no one wants to sit through HOURS of a person getting killed over and over / restarting.

You can play it again with the SNK 40th anniversary collection
I was playing this on SNK 40th Anniversary Collection and I was like Holy shit that's Funkytown.
Same. I was playing this today after buying it on sale for $27.

Can't tell which is funnier-- this sound or the eponymous character's "roar" in Donkey Kong, which came out the same year.
