The bigger issue here is that Manny couldn’t find one person he trusted to run the defense. Not one person. That’s not good. Manny running the defense long term is not a viable solution in my opinion
The best Linebacker we've had in recent years was Denzel Perryman. Manny hasn't recruited any backer better nor did he develop the linebackers he got to Denzel's level. Folks have to stop thinking Manny is that great recruiter and developer. The transfer was developed by their past coaches. I've been a Canes fan since 1984 so I've seen the Great, The Good, The average, and the bad. So at the end of the day if Manny doesn't win this year meaning the ACC title game it's time to move on from him. People have to stop thinking manny was this elite DC he's been good to average DC everywhere he's coached. I would like to see him do well but his pride and ego are going to be his downfall.
I agree with you on a lot of points. The problem is, you gotta have the linebackers that's going to get everybody in the right alignment in the field in the front 7. As much as I think shack and pink, lacked in speed and coverage, you did not see all of the last minute stuff as you do now. I do believe defense will be better but we needed and need a big boy in the middle to thump some guys like perryman used to do. Our linebackers are too small especially when they're not able to diagnose a play quick enough to get the upper hand.

I’ve watched the tapes too. Blake should’ve never been hired in the first place. The first year he was failing the eye test and it was by gods grace manny got involved. Hopefully they can muster up wins. I lost all patience last year. I didn’t wear my Sean Taylor jersey all year until the unc game that I went to in person and got blown out at. I won’t settle for less then a 10 win season. Last chip I was 5. Hopefully I see one in my adult life.
They did not play press coverage because they did not have the corner play to do that. EVERY team they played KNEW that!! As soon as they saw press coverage/man, they went over the top with a high success rate!!! It was because #1 depth and #2 technique!!! Blades and Ivey, for whatever reason, we're not taught or did not develop press/man techniques and/or skills!! They are both very athletic, especially, Ivey. Given the correct coaching, and there will be a dramatic improvement in corner play and overall defense. Each year since Golden and Richt, Golden - no Defense with good Offense!! With Richt - no Offense with good Defense. I believe this is the year Manny makes the jump to a better than average head coach. Also, I wouldn't throw my boy under the bus by letting him go!! I will relieve him of his duties and let him get a chance to get more seasoning, ESPECIALLY, if he couldn't get another gig. He'll have some good peers around him to learn from. ALSO, don't sleep on Van Dyke playing against Alabama!!! He he'll have months to prepare and since no one expects the Canes to win, he has nothing to lose! He can play a little loose than he would if the game had national championship or division championship on the line. It will be a GREAT experience for either him or Garcia to get reps!! Throw them in the deep end, they'll either sink or swim!!!! Quit holding their hands!!! These are top competitors!! Let them compete!!! LOL!!!!
They may both run a 4-2-5 but how they implement the 3levels(DL,LB&DB's) obviously vary. Strategy, philosophy, down, distance and circumstances are all so important.... The technique that all 3 levels use are situational and Blakes defense is under performing.
I did like Manny style of defense, fly around and play violent. We'll see if he gets them playing like that. Also change that damn rugby style tackling.

Enos offense didn't work because our oline is not strong enough unlike bama. Our defense is not strong enough unlike bama. We cant tackle or bring people down because we are not strong enough!! Putting kids in position and running schemes aint gonna work if your kids are not strong enough!! You can run 5 plays all day and if the defense is not strong to stop them then you will lose. Just cause I get behind the wheel of a Ferrari doesn’t mean I can drive it like and f1 driver. We also need a penetrating 3 tech. No RJ and no Willis and the defense stalls. As far as baker that’s his boy and he brought his boy here and now his boy has no way to get a job at any p5 team after his performance against unc and ok state. You give up 778 total and over 500 rushing and you better think about coaching high school or juco cause no p5 school is gonna want you on staff at any capacity. Just like dorito and Golden. But in other side of that, do you really trust Ivey to play press man? No penetrating 3 tech and no corners is a receptor for disaster with an attacking defense add to that slow linebackers with no instincts and a covid year to boot. Guys, you seem to believe its the 80's, 90's and early 00's. The rules favor the offense. Alabama this year on defense couldn't stop Ole Miss or UF. Why do you think Saban focus in on offense since Manzel and Watson lit up Alabama in multiple games. Saban understand against better teams and sometimes, he was going to be in shootouts to win games.
