    I have gotten rid of almost everything in my house, & the items that I have are in a precarious place. There is almost nothing I want anymore! I got rid of my full sized refrig. & bought a dorm sized one. It works for me! Keeps me on my toes about keeping "left overs" to long & cooking too much in the first place. I could go on & on about how much "down sizing" I have done, but I will put it this way....if I don't use it every day, it's gone! I live alone & am 76 yrs. old, but I do worry about myself. I wonder a lot if this is normal or is something going wrong in my head. I do love the results. If I could just have a one room cabin & about 3 acres of land I would be happy in my mind. I wish minimalism had been going on (in my world) 30 years ago & accepted by people! I don't want to live in a tiny apartment crammed together with many, many other seniors, that is not my way of living. I know why there are so many street people, because they feel like I do & can't stand to live in senior housing & don't want to be tied down anymore to the "American dream"!. Today is the first time I have seen your vids & am enjoying them very much! Thank you for sharing your knowledge so young people may not have to be tied to unreality all their lives! LOL Judie

      @@AbundantlyMinimal I am about to tear into my "stuff" again! There is hardly any of it I want anymore & I'm glad! I'm like you in many ways...I actually don't carry a purse, at all! I used to carry some of the things I thought I might need in a box in the car (trunk). Being I no longer have a car (can't afford, or choose not to spend money that way at this time) I just don't take things with me. I hardly wear makeup & I sure don't want "things" unless I really, really need them. I am enjoying your vids about minalisim & gaining a lot of "give away" knowledge from you....thank you Sarah!!!! LOL Judie

      Judy, Judy, Judy Judy you're such an inspiration. I think caring less about stuff is what people used to do centuries ago. Sadly minimalism is only a concept understood in the western world. where i live now it is frowned upon. but i dont care what people think about it

    On the point of food....I wish fridges were smaller. The trend to larger appliances in the kitchen is not one I like. I used to have an "apartment" sized fridge in my home and it fit just the right amount of food. I had to buy a new fridge and it is so much larger than the old one....food gets lost in it! I was over buying at first to have it look "full" the way the old one did, but all that happened is that food went to waste. Now my fridge looks almost bare, but it is the right amount of food. Strange situation......

    • @AbundantlyMinimal
      @AbundantlyMinimal  6 років тому +1

      Great points! It is easy to store so much in the fridge, especially if there are not as many people in the household. I'm glad you have found a method that works for you.

    • @hf8106
      @hf8106 5 років тому +6

      Our fridges in Switzerland are
      small. The kitchen is already
      installed in all apartments. So
      we do not purchase them. Nor
      are we a deepfreezing nation.
      We have great quality food here
      and many open air markets.
      Nice organic food as well. But
      in USA I know everything is big
      but not the average bank account.
      Where do you live?

    • @KathleenJean53
      @KathleenJean53 5 років тому +4

      ritalyn b So agree. If we look at how Europeans and basically everyone else on the planet live the norm is small housing, small appliances. Smaller fridges can be found with some hunting and are worth it if you are customizing a smaller space. The big box stores all looked at me like I was a freak asking for slim fridge and micro washer I had seen on a boat. I found them after hunting. A small footprint.

    • @meileevaj
      @meileevaj 5 років тому +8

      I agree... Smaller fridge, car, house... We just think bigger is better but still we are left to feel so empty.

      Izzy p...I do watch some UA-cam...only the RV travelers (about 5) & animal antics! Sometimes the antics some people think is cute that they do to their animals seems cruel to me, not just playing with them or letting them be natural. The RVers I watch have shown me so much about the US & where things are that I have gained a lot of knowledge. I never cared in geo. class in school, but ordinary people traveling around in ordinary ways is so interesting to me! I don't watch any sitcoms any more. The older some people get the definition of "funny" changes. I sure don't see the humor TV has anymore. : )

    Around 13:00. Right on! Say "no" to social invitations that are not "best" for you (not best timing, not best size of crowd) and your need for energy reserves. On the other side of the coin, respect those who do say "no" and don't badger them with reasons to attend that fit your needs, not their needs. I like to reserve Sundays (no outside events) for self care and home care. I have to set really strong boundaries to say no to social invitations on Sundays because friends "need" to socialize. They will try to undermine my resolve with their agenda. I like to share my father's wise words..."Take care of yourself; do what's best for you; and don't jeopardize what you have built for yourself".

      Becoming a Heart Mom : Silence your Notifications in Settings, then the sound or volume. It should be there somewhere. *Alllll those silly continuous notifications are stealing your attention from life, distracting you and taking you "out of the moment". Your mind is instantly shifted away to your phone. Don't let it!! Having a designated time after supper and dishes in DW or washed, etc would be better for you And your family. It takes a decision. Kids grow up too fast anyway, if you have kids, or other family enjoying time w you or just having a Conversation(!).
      *It's NOT fair to them whatsoever* for your full attention getting broken up Often because of having the sound On for all those relentless notifications...❤

    Just before I started minimalising I brought some storage units for all my craft stuff that I might use or I might use for work. One, I've got rid of all of that stuff. Two, I was watching a new craft on youtube and thinking shall I buy..., then remembering that the three craft things I kept I realy love so spending time with those. Third, the storage units I brought are sitting empty in one of my rooms-I've been thinking about them the last few weeks I must take them to the charity shop.

    I look forward to your videos. I think they're good and I look forward to the coming changes.
    My husband and I do watch TV together. We don't have cable, but we do have a couple of subscriptions. We only watch while we're eating (we use tray tables in the living room). We also talk about the show while we're watching. We only watch about 30 minutes and don't mind stopping in the middle of an episode. Since we do it together as a hobby and it doesn't take up any time we normally wouldn't be taking for eating I see it as a good use of time. I go to bed earlier than my husband and so it's precious time for us to be together. It wasn't always the case and we used to watch a lot more, so we've definitely had to make it work for our lifestyle.

    Skincare is actually pretty simple: all you really need is a gentle cleanser, moisturizer (put on a damp face after cleansing), and sunscreen. Sunscreen is very important.

    Question? I am in the market for a full/ queen sized bed. It must must must be of recycled materials or at least capable of being recycled year's from now. Ideally I would lay it over a box spring. What companies have you all found- in the United States. Much thanks.

    • @AbundantlyMinimal
      @AbundantlyMinimal  5 років тому

      Great question! I know of two companies that offer more sustainable options...Avocado and Essentia, but I'm not sure of the recycle-ability of these beds. Best of luck with your search!

    I am 12 and trying to become minimalist, and eventually zero waste and vegan. Also I am starting to buy only cruelty free products, but I am just using up the ones I have first. Again the zero waste and vegan are eventually. By that I mean at least a few year. Any other tips for becoming minimalist when you are younger? Also a big problem is my bed. It is a twin bed, but it has a giant headboard that I don’t need and takes up more space than it needs, I want a Japanese futon bed, but I don’t know if my parents will be s fan of it as they were the ones who payed for it. Any tips? Or other things I can do about the bed?

    • @AbundantlyMinimal
      @AbundantlyMinimal  5 років тому +1

      Thank you so much for your comment! It is very exciting to hear that you would like to become a minimalist, and later transition to being zero waste and vegan! I can imagine being a minimalist at a younger age is challenging because it is a balance between what the family thinks is the best as well as your personal goals. My best advice would be to focus on prevention of new items that you don't want from coming into your space, such as from gifts or if any of your friends like to go shopping and want you to come along. With the bed, I think the best approach there might be to keep using the bed you have, and then switch out the bed to a style that you like more, whenever the time comes to get a new or larger bed. I think it goes along with the principle of reducing waste, since if you bought a new bed before you "needed" one, that bed might not get a new owner. Just an opinion, let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    Thank you dear Abundantly Minimal, what a lovely name. 1 quality video is much better than clunk. I no longer wash my hair. Top hairdresser UA-camr Brad Mundo is ok with people washing their hair once a year. I go for a walk in the rain, and Mother Nature rinses it. My deodorant is salty water! High-quality, truly natural toothpaste, and the bare minimum clothes. No more earrings, etc. No, no, no, no, & no. My beauty is my smile, not anything fake. No more fake anything :) (Profile pic is 7 years ago. No more hair dye, 99% of the companies are owned by Nestlé. )

    I think people binge-watch here in the states.
    There's a quiet war going on: the Minimalist Movement /Sustainable Simplicity (this is what I lean toward), and the Amazon Must-Have's/Hauls including beauty & so-called Lifestyle Guilt trips/(semi mindless consumerism) ...
    Also, I think the Millennial and Gen xxx can say No to other people a lot easier than the parents-generation. All the best to you as you concentrate on perfecting your videos. 100% support scaling down to improve your output.

    You are a lot like me. I don't use makeup actually never have and that's why I have good skin. I don't have cable we do have a UA-cam and Hulu account and I only watch a few episodes of something in the evening or a movie before going to bed. I own 3 pairs of shoes and 1 pair of slippers. 2 purses. Only a few dishes and not a lot of clothing everything is setup kon mari style. I only carry what I use and been working on my minimalist lifestyle for 3 years now ever since I got married
