  • In this lesson, I'll show you how you can use the pentatonic scale to open up your entire fretboard. I think you'll enjoy this video.
    LET'S TAKE IT TO THE BASS!
    NOTE: Next week, I'll go back to our triad inversions. Specifically, I'll be demonstrating how to use the inversions to play over chord changes.
    Stay tuned...

    Good stuff!
    Back in the day I was practicing Jeff Lorber Fusion's tune called Water sign.
    These different pentatonic formations came in very handy to pull off that tune!
    I was also in a gracious situation where I had a good teacher in conservatory who guided my way to these concepts.. I'm so glad that you don't need to apply to music school nowadays to get some knowledge. Fantastic job mr. Brown!

    I have gone through a ton of your videos and a ton of other content creators stuff. I just have one question. How do you take each shape of the pentatonic scale and apply it to the given key? For example I also play several other instruments including baritone ukulele and on there you can use a specific string for major or minor and build the shape around the key that way. Is this something that is done on base as well?

    I guess I just don't have an ear for this... I couldn't discern any difference between the first and second way you played that minor pentatonic scale

    • @richbrownbass
      @richbrownbass  3 роки тому +2

      That's kind of the point. By learning different positions of the scale, you're opening up the fretboard to cover more area using the same notes. This way you're not stuck in one position, and the different positions give you more options for different ideas. So it's more about opening up the fretboard than it is about hearing different things over different positions. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for watching.
