Fire Emblem Echoes but I can't recruit anyone

- This is a simple challenge run I've wanted to do for a few years now. As recruitment is an actual major mechanic in this game, I was curious as to whether or not you could beat it by refusing to pick up any optional units.
If you're interested in seeing the raw gameplay of this run, you can find it here: • Fire Emblem Echoes: No...
Fire Emblem Echoes but Alm and Celica have trouble making new friends
"As a friend you are replacable" ~Alm to faye and kliff probably.
“perhaps… one day… you’ll meet berkut in this world.”
Who even need's an army?
-Albein Alm Rudolf
“If you don’t have an army, then you can’t lose units.”
-Also probably Albein Alm Rudolf
@@theoreticallymoss "Celica can't blame for going to war if I have no army to fight one."
-Albein Alm Rudolf apparently
I’d like to mention your blessed sword being named “UwU”. That is certainly the opposite of blessed, being cursed af.
Banger video!!
Cursed? What could possibly be more blessed than my trio of forged weapons (UwU OwO and ÒwÓ).
Didn't realize until after the video how small your channel was, this video is nicely made.
I didn't realize until reading this comment! These are great!!
I actually did this exact challenge run of Fire Emblem Echoes only using forced recruitment characters years ago and had a lot of fun with it and it's cool to see someone else do this as well
Also want to add for my run I made Gray and Tobin their canon classes of mercenary for Gray and archer for Tobin and also did not use any pitchforks to reclass
@@LostBlade776help those are their canon classes?? Those are the ones I happened to make them into 💀💀
@@OrigamiAhsoka Yeah Gray, Tobin, and Kliff all have canon classes which the game references in Ram Village of you interact with some stuff around Ram Village it mentions Tobin's archery, Gray being a swordfighter, and Kliff practicing magic although both Faye and Atlas do not have canon classes there is nothing like that for either of them
The suggested classes for the villagers kind of blow though. Gray should be putting his strength points into Hunter's Volley, Tobin should be using that base speed + early Excalibur, and Kliff's worse class is probably mage. I think he's a great Merc because he's basically guaranteed to double enemy DFs in the lategame
@@ellachino4799 I don't remember how good mage Kliff is but I think merc Gray is really good and archer Tobin is alright
31:12 nope, they definitely didn't, i know this because atlas, celica's optional villager unit, will leave the party if you beat this map before clearing all of the western battles, at which point he officially joins you.
i think they just expected the shadow sword guy to be a bigger threat than he actually is, but it just isn't… not really much to say there.
Atlas, Catria, and Pall all do that. But I think what they intend is for players to go fight shadow sword guy, then realize that their buddies won’t take such tomfoolery, re-recruit them, and THEN take on Grieth.
At least, that’s how I think the thought process went. I can’t speak for game designers, but I get the feeling as someone who has worked on games.
@@theoreticallymoss that is something i highly doubt, mostly because that feels to me like bad game design. i think a lot of players would assume you couldn't immediately re-recruit them, i personally panicked when atlas left, and immediately soft reset my game, reloading my save file from before attempting the map. i didn't even finish the cutscene.
also on that same logic, the player already has three recruits telling them to go west, so i think the devs just expected them to do that before even trying to continue north.
the last reason i highly doubt this …i didn't know atlas wasn't the only one to leave, the reason being (besides resetting mid cutscene) is that when i finally beat this map, i managed to lose both my pegasus knights in the process. this map is easy if you do it later, but either i suck, or it's really hard when you do it first, because i found it so hard i genuinely thought i was sequence breaking by tackling it first, and would've given up immediately if i didn't want that shadow sword.
honestly the more i think about it, they probably just intended it to be easy, possibly as a way for players to calm down after throwing them against the literal max amount of enemy units the game can handle.
I've had this game off and on for 7 years now, and I was surprised by how much I didn't know. Like, THAT'S WHAT RETREAT DOES?? And THERE'S SECRET DUNGEONS??
Also, the Berkut battle will forever be the most difficult battle in the main story line for me lol.
That's easy for me
@@ShadoWolfy711 bruh how 😭
Lv 15 Dread fighter
Time to play Echoes again. I love Alm & Celica so much, they deserve everything.
I sometimes forget that Echoes exists, so it was cool to see the game again with an interesting challenge!
Also, I'm reminded the Dread Fighter sprites just don't have necks, like why they built like that💀
It’s because they realized the neck is what makes you vulnerable to magic. They had to make great sacrifices to become the most useful class in Echoes.
Randomly found your videos! I love how well produced this was. Keep up the good work!
For me I like Echoes more then any other FE.
It has the best fighting animations.
I love the attacks that come from blocking and evading.
OMG YES! Peeved Latias was too scared to do it. I challenged him to do it for years.
I am a sucker for fire emblem challenge runs. Loving this already

The reason that leveling past promotion isn't very useful in this game isn't the growth rates
It's that when you promote, any stats below the class bases are automatically set to those values
You probably know this tbh but yeah
Yeah, I’m well aware. It’s just more worth while to hope for good RNG on additional stat growths than hitting a bare minimum (which was extremely helpful in this case).
@@theoreticallymossit does seem like it worked out well
Also I didn't know about the Secret Shrine, thanks for the info lol
i did a whole lords only run for this game (my SECOND PLAYTHROUGH BTW) and it took me this video to realize the actual effects of retreating. actually nuts. this was fun to watch though i really understand the urge to just find an excuse to replay a good game
You’re definitely not the first person to mention not knowing what retreat does, though the game never does properly explain it. I only knew because I have a tendency to play RPGs too quickly and thus have to find every possible cheesable mechanic due to being way underleveled. Echoes was no exception to this.
Anyone else see the headless Gray at 5:12
you could actually make it so you don't have to fight zeke by opening up tatiana's cell but declining her recruitment
I could, but also killing Zeke is funnier.
@@theoreticallymoss also something something exp
Obligatory "Mage Kliff isn't good"
He's much better promoted to Archer, or if you wanna go all out on he guy you can make him a Merc then Dread Loop back to Archer.
I will say, play however you wish, I certainly can't stop you, but Kliff does not excel as a Mage really.
Now, Tobin, he's a great Mage. Learns Excalibur really early, and he learns Physic as a Sage.
SoV is in my top 2 favorite FEs. I never thought of doing this type of challenge run, by favorite way to play is similar:
I go through the whole roster and flip a coin to see who I can use. If I get more than 6 characters per side, I have to iron man that side.
Echoes, but Alm and Celica thought this was Engage and wanted to minimize contact so as not to lose brain cells.
Jokes aside, I’ve always wanted to try this type of run.
Even if you don’t want to recruit Tatiana, you can still make Zeke’s map easier by just talking to her. He’ll still become a green unit, unless you just want the extra exp
My prediction is that Alm solos his route with little issue based on the fact that he is indeed Alm, while Celica fights tooth and nail to get through the swamp
My first ever Fire Emblem Ironman was Gaiden, it was a lot like this. The moment I got into Act 3, Alm was all alone being maimed by horses. I gave up.
I love the Firenese units and Alfred and Celene best lords... aside from Dimitri... hes's best boy.
i want to see you try a only genny/silque(when you get her) challenge run in this game since i couldn't do it and quit near the end of the game
Hey I still like using a couple Firene units. Celine and Louis are really good every time i've used them.
That aside good video i love seeing FE challenge ruins.
I did this once and it was super fun.
Doing Alms final route last also has another benefit besides his promotion: When you reach a certain point, he is forced to fight battles endlessly in a roadblock until Celica reaches the end, so you can't actually finish Alms route before Celicas...
I liked how forced you sounded saying all those nice things about Clyde
you should do a fates challenge run next :-)
I think using the pitchfork on Lukas and boi to get additional mercenaries might have saved you some headache
this reminds me of my only mage run as you basically get limited units anyways
I have been thinking about doing this exact challenge, but i haven't had the time
The funniest fact about this game to me, is that baby Alm has a base stat total of 45, while beginning Alm from Gaiden has a total of 40!
So this games baby Alm is pretty much 2-3 levels stronger than the original Alm, given the terrible growth rates in both games...
5:14 OH MY GOD HIS FACE?????
Fire emblem echoes except Alm and Celica are like some of the best units in the game and don't need friends 💀
Engage has the worst unit recruitment of any strategy jrpg I have ever played like sure you can make firene units work but have fun tormenting yourself pulling it off. Like I pray the next game they make dials the unit count back and focuses more on making units unique and fun over giving us an overabundance of them. I also hope for the love of God classes go back to being 2 path options there's no way I trust them to ever get flying to not be the most op thing even in engage where it's more balanced they still fucked up and made flying too meta I want infantry to actually be fun again.
Excellent
Fire emblem echoes but if you can recruit someone, you cant
I'm not sure, But I think just opening Tatiana's cell is enough for Zeke to turn green, she isn't recruited by opening her cell, you still get the prompt after talking to her.
I'm surprised you didn't use the Hexlock shield in the dungeon near Nuibaba to cheese her
This is peak humour and your voice is incredible, subscription well-earned!
Haaah, Clive. I remember everyone saying that Clive was shit (especially compared to Mathilda) but honestly I found him to be pretty good. Probably gave him the Ridersbane/Horseslayer now that I think about it. He was no ranger with a killer bow but as far as cavs go he's decent. I wonder how he'll fare in this kind of run, especially since you can baby the units a lot more.
5:15 what happened to Gray's face 😭
I stole it (my dump of Echoes was corrupted, so I had to re-dump my cartridge, so there are various render errors until a certain point).
@@theoreticallymossI see. Well, I have your nose
41:43 i beat this map with a lv 10 myrmidon only
Alm act 4 i beat only with 1 myrmidon
I saw that "UwU" sword.
I did the same challenge my first complete run, vanilla hard felt to easy. I used the dlc villager forks to actually have a balanced team comp though.
Antisocial emblem
sov makes the bold decision to add more demeaning scenes of women held captive in compromising positions, ending up as more sexist than the original
Unicorn Overlord really said I can do Clive better than you lmao
I like how your able to take sov, the worst entry in the entire series, and make a video on it that is actually entertaining
actually the best entry in the series
@@rainingrotom oh aye? How do you figure that?
Such a concerning take
@@starkillahx you may be right, I forgot gaiden exists, mb
@@Battagang 😑
Am I the only one who hate FE echoes?
I hated this game so much this is the worst game I've ever played it was all misery and I wasted 40 hours to ensure a deathless run only to lose 7 units on the final boss this game is the worst I hate it HATE HATE HATE
its actually peak fire emblem
Conceptually amazing but it also makes me want to dye. Love the luthier pfp btw
