That's what happens when you're born in musically driven families. They don't have much freedom to express their own sound. If they do, you'll get the same results as Setsu's mom. That is why some unlucky few burn out very quickly from the intense pressure.

Because remember she played for the grandma and said the song sounded completely different from how setsu played it, and he mimicked how his grandpa played. Meaning that matsugoro knew setsu was not gonna find his sound over night, it's a lifetime of evolving one will do with the shamisen.
