Great method! If you do this from the opposite way (start from the middle instead of the ends) you can pull out from the ends and use only as much as you need then just loop back up what you used instead of pulling it all the way out each time.
I am as incompetent as they come when it comes to home improvement stuff. I watched a handful of videos before yours and darn near gave up. Your video was simple and easy to understand. I got three extension cords done in less than five minutes! I feel like a total bad a$$! Lol! Thank you!!!
This is the best video when searching for how to wind a cord. So many others just show it from a studio angle and never focus on the hand motions. Thank you!
this is how I learned back in the late 80s on construction sites, we used to roll cords out and roll up everyday. Things have changed, but this is the best way to do it.
Hey guy, if you start wrapping the loops, at the other end, away from the plugs, you can tie your last loop Like you did, and then connect the two plugs ends together. Now when you want to use some of the cord, just unplug the ends. Now plug one end into your outlet, grab the last end and walk away from the outlet. The cord will only unravel as far as you walk then plug in your device. Now when your done you only have to rewrap the amount that unwrapped. I use 50' and 100' cords for everything. the unneeded part just lies wrapped up on the floor between where im working and the outlet, until I pick it up to rewrap the cord. Now show that to the world and you'll look like a genius. Also show them how well the cord hangs on a nail. That you can fit 3 or 4 cords on one nail and how well they fit in a bucket or a bag with your power tools! I'll never wrap another cord in 2 loop figure 8s or one loop around my elbow again. No way. Later. Jpol.
I tried it and I did it!!! I am a homemaker and I do the yard work while hubby is at work. I use the extension cord for the blower several times a week to clean the porches. It is always a tangled mess. Now I don't think I'll have any trouble and it looks neat hanging. Thank you:)
Thank you so much I'm 22 and just learned how to tie an extension cord starting at 100ft It's actually fun 💃🏾 I've actually just watched a few other videos but yours is the best 👌🏾
Thank you So Much for Sharing your Video. I just had to buy a New 100 ft cord. Yes 🙋♀️, I am the one who wraps it around my arm 🤦♀️. Yep , I’m also the one who weed whacks the cord or Hedge trimmer, I did that today. Now, with your Help I have a Easier way to store my Extension Cord. I Thank You 😊
I've been doing this for years. My dad taught me and I'm 62. Electricians would always say it would ruin the cords. My dad has passed but his extension cords are still usable and older than I am.
Such a simple thing but I could not get it to save my life. Thank you for doing it multiple times and slowing it down. I couldn’t believe how bad I was struggling with such a simple task 😂
Thank you sooo much I was about to buy myself a 50 feet extension cord. This will make my life so much better. Great idea. Especially with my 100 feet of cord.
LOL. The first time I saw that was on a Mall job site. The guy who I observed whipped that cord as you showed, and it was like the whole thing took about 15 seconds.
I learned this at votech years ago but never cared for this method. It still looks like a wadded up mess with a 100' cord. It's best with shorter cords though.
yes sir, been doing this for years. Love it when my neighbors or whoever catches me doing this outside when I'm done with yardwork and come to ask me how I did that....
You are starting at the wrong end. If you start in the middle you can only undo the length you need. So a 100’ chord is usable in a 20’ application with most of it still coiled.
I was shown this years ago, by a guy that did service calls, and kept long cords in the bed of the truck. But, he just started from one end and went to the other. That way, if you have a 100ft cord, and you only need 50ft of it, you are only unwinding 50ft. You lay it on the ground and pull one end, and it comes unwound only as far as you need it. When done, just start from the point where it is unwound, and "chain" it back.
Nice video but start the daisy chain wrap from the middle...that way u can pull out how ever many feet you want without undoing all the loops if you don't need the entire chord....both important ends unwind first
When I was a rookie firefighter in the 70's the department I was at used this method, I thought it was dumb, but I was a rookie, I said why don't we use reels? The next year we had reels much better and later in my career we got even better and had electric reels. Now years later and retired I still use reels.
I do the same thing but i like doing the other end so I don't have to undo the whole ting if I don't have to. This method can be done with 100ft or more
Roll it up like you do a parachute cord. Much easier and way easier to store. An there is no twist. Way easier. An stores way better. And you don’t end up with with that long nodded up thing to try hang. Like a parachute cord is much better.
It’s more meant for ropes but obviously you can use it on extension cords. Everything is harder in the cold. My advice would be bring it in a warm area let it warm up and then daisy chain it
The thing they don't tell you about this method is. If you get it figured out and can do it. Don't forget how you did it and from which end. If you try to use the cord and start from the wrong place. It's a tangled mess. I'll never use this method again. Better off just wading it up and fighting with it when you need it again.
Although this is cool as fuck. You gotta think… doesn’t it kinda defeat the entire purpose of wrapping it at all?? Because wrapping it period was thought of to shorten the length so you wouldn’t have cord everywhere… this kinda defeats that purpose lol. Still awesome idea tho
You should not be so negative about your own opinions. But if you insist on being that way. All of those holes you made with that wire. Well, they just might resemble your opinion reference. Hope your odor does not get too thick or tangled for you.
Great method! If you do this from the opposite way (start from the middle instead of the ends) you can pull out from the ends and use only as much as you need then just loop back up what you used instead of pulling it all the way out each time.
Awesome ill have to try that!!!!!
That was my thoughts exactly.

Thank you. I watched two other videos of people that could do it but couldn't show it.

Mine was all kinked up because it was new so I hit it with a heat gun (or hair dryer) to straighten it out which makes this process a lot easier.
Thats a good idea!!!!
