    Thanks for this intro to T-shirt Week, Whitney! You wouldn't think there's much to consider with a t-shirt, but in reality, there is! Just in choosing fabrics alone! I love the inspiration photos you showed...never would have thought to put a woven sleeve on a knit t-shirt, but, oh how fun; and adding a little bit of a gathered sleeve to a t-shirt bringing it down to a cuff! So inspiring!

    I'm sew looking forward to t-shirt week. I've been making t-shirts since Ann Pearson introduced knits to home sewing with her Stretch and Sew Patterns in the late 1960;s, I find myself using the same pattern and getting into a rut. Thanks for doing this.

    I've been loving this series on Tees Whitney! A treasure trove of helpful inspiration and guidance. Especially in this one on sleeves! I bought 2 Simplicity patterns a while ago (I'm not sure if they are still in print but you might find them on ebay or etsy if not) that I love for sleeves. They are just sleeves based on the 1930's. So many different styles of sleeves! Although they are depicted in woven like you said they would be adjustable to knit by as you say, measuring that sleeve cap - 8506 and 8695. All that pattern drafting already done for you :) Sending you and your family good health and well being.

    On this homeSchool front, you’ve got this, Whitney! It is a new structure but you can do this thing. Your kids can do this! They have probably been learning a lot through a screen for a while, and every year there are lots of kids who catch things or injure things and have to stay home for weeks. Don’t let the different become overwhelming... work with them to set up a structure of what they need to get done and let them be responsible. We currently have three professions all working from home, plus one college junior. We are in separate rooms most of the day, respecting what others have to get done, unless we need to share information or strategies. Then we are social over lunch and dinner. Most days we take a walk after dinner. We are watching way too much tv in the evening but one of us is still recovering from surgery so there are limits. You can do this! If you can get all of your viewers through sewing a leather background this is cake. Oh cake! Do your kids know how to bake? Great sequencing and science skills there...looking forward to all the tshirts. Have to go pull my fabrics...and look for some cool wovens for sleeves- that’s a great idea.

      What a lovely thing you have going in your house! I really am appreciating the simplicity that is our current situation. We are also all sitting down together for lunch and dinner and it’s lovely. I’m also really enjoying our family walks, when the weather is cooperating! We are slowly getting into a better routine, but then Spring Break starts Friday 😂. Isn’t that always the way?!!

    so looking forward to this t-shirt week. Have made a couple, looking for more ideas. Have been holding onto a blueberry and white ikat cotton knit that I adore and just was not ready to cut into it. I think this will help me make a decision. Thinking I want more of a swing style with 3/4" sleeve and an interesting neckline. I know you will help me greatly in making this a favorite. Let the t-shirt making begin!!!

    I'm planning to start with the It's Always Autumn waist tie t-shirt pattern. The view is a bit more fitted than I like for myself, but it's a cute way to add a little something to your tee without adding too much bulk at the abdomen :) I will use the elbow length sleeve. Thanks so much Whitney, this is going to be a fun week!

    Loving tee shirt week. Recently made up the concord tee with a ribbing that was too fine and thin for cuffs. Turned out really well adding a large, loose polo neck, lengthen and a band to the bottom with long sleeves. Surprised how expensive it looked😃

    I love your suggestions for upping the cure factor! I also want to say that lipstick is so gorgeous on you 👍💯 your colors are done right, it’s really impressive. Anyway 2 quick things, the button up: Last night I looked at a pattern contemplating doing exactly what you mentioned and chickened out, so I’m happy for your idea to use a stable knit instead. My pattern looks just like the one you showed, but is from the 80’s. The other thing, I did something new last week to a t-shirt I thought I’d share with you: ,I used power mesh as the neckband in place of the usual fabric. I did it so you can see the pattern through in this case the main fabric is white with red roses, and the mesh is red and you see bits of the that through it. I think it’s pretty cute. I also used clear elastic first so the neckline would be more stable and stretchy, I hope I’m making sense! I play with trim a lot , but this is unique and I wanted to run it by you. I like the Pom poms and I’m going to try those, I have some black ones. Fun! Thanks for a stellar start to t-shirt week, this is so up my alley!

    Lots of great ideas, Whitney. Looking forward to the sessions. I recently did a Vogue top that had a dart at top of sleeve ...gave a nice look to shoulder as i no longer appear to have much of one (aging)...It's V9079 for woven but I used knit. With the dart, you could adapt to make bell sleeve or bishop sleeve, I guess, instead of straight sleeve as in pattern.

    Whitney, you have shown some cute T shirt options. My mid-section is my worst attribute. Is a knotted style T shirt the worst thing for me, would it put a spot light on the negative? Would it help if the the knot was more to the side? Thanks so much for giving all of us something to look forward to!!!! Beautiful fabric of the Rhapsody top, it looks so pretty on you. Take care and God Bless.

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  4 роки тому

      I think if the knot were on the high hip and a bit off to the side, it would be very flattering! The Pamela’s Pattern perfect t-shirt that I’m working with is a great one if you want to camouflage a bit of a tummy. It has shaping at the waist, but isn’t skin tight and the hem is also curve, which is also very slimming!

      Hi Whitney. Thank you for clarifying that. I thought that might be it. Can’t wait to see them. You really do a great job. Thank you. How’s the homeschooling? I bet after the Presidential speech this morning, they will not go back until the fall. I have a kindergartner and she’s extremely hyper. We knew she wouldn’t do well in public school, so with help from her grandparents, we could afford to put her in a Christian school. It was easier with our other 9 kids than it would be to homeschool her. I don’t know if it’s because both my husband and I are sick or our age because I had no problem homeschooling them all at once. She’s a blessing though.i can’t imagine life without her. Be blessed today. Elizabeth
