Missed a couple of things there.. you don't need to plaster the back of the pad like that, just where the pad sits in the carrier.. and the slider bolts always need pulling out to regrease so they don't seize
If you want to remove the disks on the MK2, you have to remove or at least loosen (remove one bolt and loosen the other) the carrier bracket also. It is attached with two M14 triple splined or triple square bolts. You can get a bit for your ratchet wrench at local auto parts store.
Great video, gave me some tips, I presume the same process for a Mk1 TT....also I am replacing the discs all round, all that would be extra to do would be to remove the caliper mounting bracket (couple of bolts?) and the small screw?
Appreciate your video. I attempting to do this today but the wind back tool isn't oushibg the piston back in at all . I'm so confused. I've changed brake pads on numerous cars never had this issue. Hand brake down . brake reservoir cap was off. But that thing just wouldn't push back . its an oudi TT RS mk2. Any suggestions
Hi, will a fault come up on dashboard after brake pad or disc change ? I.e. do you have to reset anything using obd2 when pads or discs are changed on mk2 Audi tt? Thanks...i have parts but worried it will generate a fault code if i do it myself changing pads or brake discs on the tt .
You should give a warning about wearing a face mask with filter (respirator) when blowing brake dust into the air as asbestos causes several lung ailments....but then "you probably shouldn't be doing this if you didn't know that". Great video!
Great Article. A question please - I want to buy one of the piston rewind tools but see 'left handed' and 'right handed' ones advertised. Which one do I need for my Audi, and does the same tool do both sides. cheers
It is not a torx bolt, it is an m14 triple splined or triple square bit. I was able to remove the lower bolt and just loosen the upper to get enough space to remove the disk. Makes it so you don't have to align things again to get the carrier back on if you remove it completely. I was able to get onto the bolt with the M14 bit on my ratchet wrench.
Question: On a audi tt 2.0fsi turbo rotor, What size Rotor would fit for it? www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J4P6YWA/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AZ5F8Y2OJVX1W Would this work?

Really helpful cheers. Wasn't changing pads but wanted to clean up and paint calipers.
Thanks for that, very clear, made a piston winder tool with a 27mm socket and an angle grinder!
Thanks for posting it! Very well done. Will do the job this weekend and this video makes me very confident I will do it right.
Thanks for making this video I was able to rent a tool and finished the job

Great video. Doing my Mk2 now. very helpful.
I think there's small part of the pad friction material that you didn't cover in copper grease. Will it still work?
How tight are the carrier bolts meant to be?
What's the best way to jack up the TT? There only appears to be cut outs on the sills for the scissor jack that comes in the boot! Thanks
Thanks fellas, good source of know how. Cheers
Could you get anymore copperslip on those pads?. haha
love the Irish narrative and the copper slip lol, dont thing you will live that one down
steve
Good article, many thanks. Any surprises in changing the disks on these?
Smiler & Dee Pacey No surprises, all procedure as shown in the video.

Great video. Keep it up
No sensors to worry about?
Is there any difference in installing the fronts?

Does the TTs Mk2 8J have a rear break pad sensor mate ?

Daniel Gaskell I don’t think brake pads have had asbestos in them for many years but exposure to any dust should be minimized
Asbestos hasn't been used in pads for a very long time.
So how would you replace the rotor on this same car?
Fantastic tutorial!
Do the US spec TT MK2
caliper bolts have 13mm and pins 15mm?
My US Spec TT MK2 has 13mm and 15mm bolts like the video. The 15mm is a little thin - if you have a wide wrench it may not work properly.
Thumbs Up Cheers Mate.

I know this was posted years ago, but for others you just need a double ended tool that can do both.
Mine used a right handed fine.
what kind of grease do you use on brake pads? Brand and Name please.
How much would this work cost on average.
What if your back rear calibrate won't go back in?
whats is the size between the pins of that tool?
what size rotors are on this car?
286mm I believe. Look up the specs on a website called 7zap, or the Brembo Parts shop.
Been trying to remove the rear disc on my mark2, but I just cannot get onto the top carrier torx bolt. Any ideas?

these pistons have clearly been wound in before....just had to sack it after a whole with seized pistons
0:50 tourteen?

Fuck ya I just worked on my 05 TT I wish I would have saw the tool but I did it with a vise and clamp
That works for the fronts, but the rears on the MK2 appear to need to have the piston actually screwed down with the screw tool.
I'd rather use brake cleaner than air to clean brake dust meself like!!!!!
