Wow! What a transformation! The box, the sockets and the ratchet came out great! I really like the color on the box. Rivets on the boxes are always tough, but you got it!
Thanks Fred G! That's that Hammered Verde that I use to match that original craftsman color.. I'm on the hunt for a steel vise now. You inspired me with that one you just did! Again great job on that vise Brother!
Hey !George vraiment une très belle restauration, les douilles sont superbes et la clé cliquet aussi. La boîte est comme neuve, que demander de plus. Un très beau set.❤
Thank You Big Brother! I thought that would be a nice choice for the box I really do like that Verde. Finally all that experience I have putting things back together backwards paid off!😅
I have a large 3/4" drive set i have had for years. Rarely have i needed the ratchet and drive tools, but when I did it has been great having them. However, i have used numerous sockets in the set many times for pushing seals and bearings and bushings in or out. Very convenient and very nice to have at those times.
Those Williams ratchets are work horses. The switches aren’t peened on, but pinned. The pin is put thru the pawl and can be pulled out by gravity, or maybe a magnet. You turn the switch past its normal stop 90 degree and you will see the pin in the side of the pawl. It you turn the pin 180 degrees, you will permanently brick the ratchet, and can only gut it working again by disfiguring the ratchet! Snap ring chronicles did a video on this recently. Great set. Great restoration and great video. Love the color. Thanks!
Thanks Eric, I appreciate the information. I did see his video after I did this set. I am quite pleased with this set came out and yes Williams are fantastic tools.
I will never need a 3/4 inch driver ratchet, half - inch is heavy duty enough for me, but i really like the way you revived that set. Its cool that those turned out so well, and also that your actual sockets were complete. The industrial green color is just right.
Thank You Pat! Finding any complete 3/4 set especially in the wild is amazing. I'm trying to find a 3/4 SK set but the only ones I've seen are WAY outta my price range. I knew i was gonna use the verde as soon as I brought the box home. I really like it.

@Uwannawatch you're welcome and yes S-K 3/4 drive vintage is rare indeed it would take a kings ransom to obtain them for sure I think I've seen a couple stray sockets here and there throughout my life but that's about it take care brother
Hey George I love that set. Williams is top notch in my book. If you work on trucks, you definitely need a 3/4 inch set . The ratchet is what I use the most with a reducer to 1/2 inch drive. No worries about breaking the ratchet like you would when you torque down on a bolt. But you own a Dodge so you won't be needing it too often.😁 Really like the work you did on the box. Perfect color. A nice industrial look. Great video Brother! Stay Cool! 😎
Mike,Mike,Mike! Thank you! Ya you know that's right Dodges never break down, but I'll keep this set around I also have a Jeep! 😁. I really like this color and I thought it would be the one for this box. I do like Williams and until I find those 3/4 SK sockets for that SK ratchet I got it'll be a keeper. Take care Brother!
I love the green color! I have had some success with latch rivets. I push the head back out leaving a hollow tube in the middle of the rivet. Then i will flare out if needed before compressing it with a small c clamp or other clamp. It works a lot of the time, but sometimes I have to start over. Hope your week cools down for the weekend!!
Thanks Patrick! That's pretty slick! I also gotta find a new rivet gun the cutter is about worn out on mine. Dan O was telling me the Milwaukee one is pretty good so I might check them out. It's supposed to cool down for a couple of days and then back up. Take it easy Buddy!
WoW, that box looks great. I got myself the Milwaukee rivet gun, and I am so happy with it I have a box of heavy-duty rivets you can't pull with a regular rivet tool

George you did an OUTSTANDING JOB on those Wright sockets, tools box and THE BEAST of Williams ratchet. I do like the fact you riveted the box back together and some rivets were done backwards! Now I know that things like that happens to others and not just me!😅😅😅
Thanks Stephen! I had to turn the rivet around because it was too proud for the box to close properly. We're all human I put a hacksaw blade on backwards once, got halfway through cutting before I realized it.😅 😅

Hey Les, Is this one yours? I was wondering where it came from. You can have it back now the cutter has about had it. LOL! Thanks Brother, I am quite pleased with how everything turned out on this project. Usually at least one thing will go to pot. Take care my friend , and sorry I kept the rivet gun so long!
It's turned out great there better than a lot of new stuff out there sorry don't refinance the to pay for them that's one of the great things about used have fun cleaning them up and save a load of cash for top quality stuff
Thanks Larry! You got that right it's way more satisfying getting these old tools and bringing them back and they are far better quality then anything on the market today. I know I paid under $50 for this little set.
You did a better job on this than I would have! Now you can look for additional parts to fully kit it out like a variety of extensions, reducers, breaker bar and T handle. Your box is a wee bit small for a fully kitted set, but finding that set with no socket misses is surprising, especially since it was otherwise so neglected. I purchased my first 3/4 set new and I bought URREA just after they split from PROTO. The fit and finish on the URREA is disappointing. The square drive broaching left wicked tits in the bottom of the sockets, which they simply chromed over. The ratchet looks identical to the PROTO, but the handle knurling is mismatched. It functions adequately, but it is disappointing to use. I wanted a second set for home and later found the PROTO version. It is substantially upgraded from the URREA. I purchased a few URREA wrenches with socket set to fill out some mismatched wrenches in my work set. They are just overall not the Proto quality either, but they are polished chrome, where Proto still forced an upgrade to get full polish when I made my purchase. They are shorter too, and I favor longer wrenches, Money was pretty tight for tools when I purchased the URREA. I still have those tools, but I don't enjoy using them. I kitted out both 3/4 sets with additional premium brands sockets. I was not a brand purist when I was building my original tool sets. These sets are still upgraded with the odd assortment of Snap-On, MAC and PROTO additions. I have become more brand snobbish in my old age and favor full matched sets. I don't have enough 3/4 demand to upgrade to Snap-On, but I still look longingly at their 3/4 tools. I am pleased that your set is going to be a user set. I own very few collector or trophy tools. I have a few, cherished for sentimental reasons. I collect tools, because I intend to, and do, use them. I brought home my American Pacemaker lathe last week. It will be an infrequent user, but I really wanted the HP and capacity it affords. I also recently picked up a 3HP 14" pedestal grinder. Restoration is another project added to my many projects list, but I intend to use it for sharpening large drills for my bigger lathes. My son just gave me an Oster pipe threader head with a mismatch of threading heads and a Ridgid pump oiler. I don't have much pipe threading demand in the home shop, but I forgot how tiresome pipe threading is on the tri-stand. This has been my only option in my hobby shops. The Oster power head combined with my Ridgid tools is an enormous upgrade. The head is too heavy for me to call portable. Old plumbers must have been stronger men than me. I have a portable heavy shop table that can accommodate this power head. I am looking forward to the next threading task!
Hello Paul, I am going to try and complete this set if possible and clean and restore all my Snap On tools and box and a few more vises to sell later on. I really want an SK 3/4 set as you know I love SK and have been working hard to get complete sets. I have only seen one complete set of sockets and it is very expensive! I am more fond of SK than Williams, Wright,Snap On and most vises. I'm glad you got your machine and hope you got to have a nice trip with your wife to get it. We still use the manual threader sometimes out in the field and let me tell you it will wear you out. After a day using it you know you did some work! We have the machine but if we are 40 miles away it's not practical to run back to the shop to use it. Good to hear from you as always. Take care my friend.
In 3/4" drive, is such a seldom used size I didn't worry about matching brands. I just made sure that no pieces in the set were import. My second consideration was making the set as comprehensive in the range of socket sizes and drive attachments as possible. I have many favorite tool brands, all of which are represented in my collection of tools.
I totally agree! My collections are either for personal reasons or quality. We use Proto at work so I know they are quality. SK My Uncle had those and they were stolen when he passed so I'm replacing them. Williams can't go wrong , Diamond again just a fine quality tool. I don't collect Craftsman or Snap On. I only buy those to send to my Buddy or to flip..but my favorite is Kaeuter they are a quality tool and I collect just for the pure enjoyment of them. But will never endorse or collect cheap import junk.
Nice job George one question though, where did you find the verde green? I can't find it anywhere and if your looking for the hammered verde green it is near impossible at a decent price.
Thanks Ken, I was lucky enough to find it online a couple years ago and when I did i ordered a bunch of it. I lot of colors are getting hard to find now.I paid through the nose for the dark green hammer finish and it's roll on.
My set includes a twin to your Williams and a Snap-on ratchet. I have handled, but never owned a 3/4" SK ratchet. While I like SK tools and have a number of them. Personally, I prefer both Armstrong and Williams in 3/4" drive. I don't think you will be swapping one ratchet for a better one by replacing the one you have with SK. Pack the whole cavity of the head of that ratchet with grease and see how much better that sounds and feels in use. I don't mean dab a bit of grease in it either. I mean stuff it so full of grease it is squeezing out of both sides of the head when you button it up. Also, use thick grease, like wheel bearing grease, not oil. Ya, it will weep grease for a long time. Toss a rag in the box under the head to soak it up.
Thanks for the tip Herb I appreciate it! , My Uncle was a mechanic and a big part of my youth. he had the most amazing tools and when he passed He left me his tools but by the time I could get there his boxes were ransacked. I've been working trying to replace the tools I knew he had and SK was one of them. I have a 3/4 SK ratchet that I picked up a while back. Now I'm on the hunt for the sockets. But ya that Williams is sweet. I don't really hoard tools and not a snob as long as it's not cheap junk I'll pick it up..there's usually a method to my madness....sometimes.

Hey George About 5 years ago didn't I borrow you that rivet gun So I can't find mine anymore that looks just like the 1 I had I dig that you actually got the ratchet off cleaned up and looks like it's a I dig that you actually got the ratchet off cleaned up and looks like it's a giant beast of a ratchet Definitely break up some stuck Ain't that baby looks super cool Also like the box that was a good touch You can't slap a Williams tag on it or an SK or something Rock on brother
Well If you are going to keep the rivet gun how about you trade me a vise ? That's sounds fair to me
LOL LOL LOL
@@lesmazur5690 🤣🤣🤣🤣!!!
Another video of GEORGE workin' his magic on A tool! Tell me young Jedi, do you EVVVVVVER get tired of showing old rusty tools WHO IS BOSS?!?!?
Thanks Little Brother! Let me ask ya a question... Do you ever get tired of being The Man? Take care Buddy. Hope all is good down there.
Another nice job, that oil you use on the surface of tools, I assume it’s not engine oil, is it a neat cutting oil or something similar ?
Thank you, It's 3 in ! oil. That's what I keep in that oiler so if you see me using that one you can know it's the 3 in 1.
Retails for suckers! Flea markets rule! Haha
That's Right! LOL! I should make that a shirt!
Make a PVC tube for the ratchet.
Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it.
Thanks for the tip. I appreciate it.
Hihihi, the guy has 100s of screwdrivers, and he used an old scrapper to remove a rivet... 😁
That's a true story! 🤣
Thanks!
