    Making the day shorter by one second requires energy to be put into the Earth's rotation, because a shorter day corresponds to a greater rotation rate. If you make the day longer by one second, then you get energy out. This is what is causing the moon to receed.

    • @YodaWhat
      @YodaWhat 6 місяців тому +6

      Almost right, but thinking only in terms of energy can be misleading. Actually it is simpler and much easier to consider just the transfer of momentum. No squared terms. That matters.

    • @wyrmofvt
      @wyrmofvt 6 місяців тому +3

      @@YodaWhat It's both, actually. A higher Moon is at a greater gravitational potential energy even at a lower kinetic energy, so energy has to go in. The larger distance gives you a greater lever arm, so even at a slower speed, there's more angular momentum, so that has to go in too. Both come from the rotation of the Earth. Both have to be conserved, so if the Moon gets both, the Earth loses both.

    If you were able to extract the Earth's rotational energy, it wouldn't make the day shorter. It would make it longer. Also, precession doesn't occur with two counter-rotating gyros. Finally, whatever energy you put into the gyroscope's rotational velocity will always be more than you can extract.

    • @Astronomator
      @Astronomator 5 місяців тому

      It also seems to me that eliminating one rotational degree of freedom would prevent the gyroscope to align with Earth's spin axis. So it should be built more like those exercise gyro-ball thingies, which have only two axes of rotation (and track rollers for good measure).

    • @suedenim9208
      @suedenim9208 5 місяців тому

      Yeah, this is definitely trying to get a free lunch. Any mechanism that could extract energy from the gyroscope would eventually prevent it from remaining stationary unless an equal amount of energy held it stationary, even if it was one of the magical frictionless ones that only exist in physics classes. Unless that energy somehow comes from a source outside the Earth there can be no net gain in energy. Maybe if we make it tall enough we can put a giant solar sail on it.

    • @goswinvonbrederlow6602

      @goswinvonbrederlow6602 26 днів тому

      Assuming a frictionless gyroscope the energy needed to spin it up would be a fixed cost while it would generate energy at a constant rate. It's just a matter of time for it to break even.
      In reality the problem is generating more energy than is lost due to friction and to pay for maintenance and repay initial investments.

    I tried to imagine similar rotation-extraction ideas for several years. Nothing will work except tidal power, because it connects to the moon. You can't get energy out unless you have something different to put the energy in.
    Adding that it is perhaps possible to extract energy from the momentum transfer of moving an object toward or away from the axis of rotation. If you could transport a chunk of Antarctic ice from the South Pole to the Equator, smoothly and mysteriously, and released it, you would find that chunk shooting westward at a thousand MPH. You might be able to harness that.

    Okay, so medium building size gyroscopes that spin near atmosphere do not work, however, what about:
    1. A farm of small desk scale or medium car scale gyros that run in parallel in an enclosed (vacuum sealed?) warehouse?
    2. A mag-lev band that is big enough to loop the world at the highest point we can reach with stable construction, (bonus points if we can break atmosphere) so like a multi-lane highway of metallic plank ring, (or at least metallic edged or some other set up) which stays in rotation, with each support point gaining charge from the difference between the ring’s spin and the earth’s spin? Possibly building the ring from space so that when it gets set into place that it starts at “zero rotational speed” or even “negative rotational speed” and uses the connection track to generate energy from the immense difference in speeds? Or… something of that rough nature anyway.
    3. Alternatively, if we figure out how to make use of core metals, and/or get asteroid mining underway, then we could potentially set up metal (tipped?)rods that extend up through atmosphere, and pass orbital electro-resistance generators, with each pass by each location charging the energy banks…

      The surface of the Earth is at equilibrium between "falling up" and "falling down", from the forces of electrostatic repulsion between the molecules of 1 trillion cubic kilometers of molten rock and metal, the "force" of gravity trying to squish all that molten rock and metal down into the smallest volume of space possible, and centripetal forces from the Earth's daily rotation (currently 23 hours and 56 minutes, but four billion years ago the day was about 16 modern hours.) The rotation makes the circumference around the equator about 67km (41 miles) longer than the circumference through the poles.
      This equilibrium was reached over four billion years ago, and the surface rocks have cooled down enough to solidify.
      Basically... if anything gets too tall it will eventually fall down, and this all averages out globally to be an oblate sphereoid on average.

    Why are there so many flat earthers here. It’s weird. Also how do they justify which direction is down. I mean if the earth was flat then gravity couldn’t exist so for them it’s not the direction opposite of gravity. Is it by head tilt, does it change every time they nod their heads?

That would solve the energy problems of the world and not be susceptible to not producing at night since half of the ring would always be on the sunny side. Plus it would create a ton of new real estate.

    Generators work with a fixed point and a moving point. Normally the fixed point relies on the earth as it's connected to it one way or another. If you try to make the earth the moving point there's no fixed point with enough inertia to resist joining it. Impossible without some sort of outside anchor point similarly massive.

    placing powerbanks in the orbit of earth around the sun can get us energy.. like we can place hundreds of powerbanks, which will keep on charging until earth reacher near them and then we can collect energy from them as there will be alot of energy stored in them.. then when a powerbank is emptied it will have a whole year to recharge it.. after a year we can extract energy from that again.. hope someone can understand and try my ideas..

    There's another way of extracting energy from the Earth's rotation, though.
    Build a very tall structure, and wrap in copper wire. Then as the Earth spins, the tower moves through its magnetic field and generates electricity.
    However, I think this would barely produce enough power for a neighbourhood, and such a tall structure for such little gain isn't worth it, even with the energy being free.

  • @realmstupid-on8df
    @realmstupid-on8df 5 місяців тому

    Don't "free energy" things work by amplifying the resonnant frequency of one molecule thru a material that absorbed it and uses that vibration which is its ffrequency to vibrate a metal or crystal that makes a sound which in theory is able to push something that then works like a motor to generate the electricy via friction.
    Essentially because you can't just make energy. You can convert it. You just need to combine two different forms of energy together with no friction.
    The pyramids and a ton of ancient sculpture we know were built to amplify sound waves anyway. They IMO were the experiments used to prove the concept of what we call "free energy generators"

    There has to be some way to do it though. Maybe if we shoot a laser tangential to the equator the rotation of the earth will increase the frequency and it can be absorbed by a photovoltaic cell? but you would have to have a nearly perfect laser to electrical conversion, which is only about 25% efficient with our best PV cells. Maybe if we do build an orbital solar array, beaming power down to earth retrograde to it's rotation could give us an efficiency boost.

    Yes, however,
    When the crust spins at a different speed than the molten iron core it GENERATES an infinite amount of electromagnetic energy, enough to protect earths atmosphere from the sun & power everything we want on earth, it's just developing a superconducter robust enough to stay integral at the high temperatures deep underground.
    Surely it should be an avenue demanding funding & the attention of academics & scientists.
    Tesla I think was on to this too.
