the one I had was pretty darn good! Of course, I asked for extra mayo and no pickles because it's just a weird preference of mine. But the fish isn't just breading! It's actually a nice sandwich.
The location closest to us, sometimes they don't even have food to serve until their truck arrives. Unbelievably bad operations, and as a result, I don't bother anymore, even though their chicken sandwich is top tier. It's as if the chains nails the taste, at least for the most part (though the fish looks like a flop). But from an operations standpoint, there's something amiss with this chain.
With a mild fish the bread to meat ratio and not overwhelming the fish with sauce is critical. Culvers has a great fish patty, but then they put it on a huge hoagie bun that completely overwhelms the mild fish flavor.
Culver's fish sandwich-- Cod or their seasonal Walleye-- is my single favorite fast food item. Period. But you're absolutely correct about the bun. They should have a bigger filet that matches the steeper price.

I really like the Arby's fish sandwich. Had one for the first time the other day. The shredded cabbage on it, the fish patty was pretty good and the bun. It was actually really good which was surprising considering it's Arby's. You should check it out my man.
It's a shame because this is so easy to make. Seriously, a couple beer-battered Gorton's fish tenders in an air fryer for 9 minutes, a good bun lightly toasted and pickles and sauce of your choice. Heck... add a slice of havarti cheese for extra zest. There's no reason to use Popeyes for this when you can make the same thing or better for 1/10 the price and time.
Couldn't the same be said for most fast food items? I often shop at restaurant supply stores where you can get some really good quality frozen foods that are meant for the restaurant industry. Here's a tip I learned...wrap your sandwiches (e.g. fish, chicken hamburger hot dog etc.) in wax paper and let it rest for a bit. It allows the bun to steam and warm and helps melt any cheese. People always laugh at me when they see me wrapping their food up like it's "to go" but when they eat it they get it.
@@kevinb4079 Actually yes. The only thing I'd give the chains are certain signature items. Big Mac is always a Big Mac and no matter how good a chicken nugget is, it ain't a McNugget. I almost always prefer preparing the food myself (So I know what chemicals are in it), but with the fish sandwich it seems unusually easy to replicate this with very basic stuff.
I fell off my seat during the intro anticipating the fish sandwich 🥪. Unfortunately I broke my elbow doing it 🤣. Great reviewbrah review !! I love the electric guitar 🎸 on the bag hahaha....
I tried it last week and the first bite was delicious. A couple bites in and it tasted like a fish cake, as opposed to an actual fish filet. Then I got disgusted and tossed the final half of it.
My heart broke a little when you pointed at a Trumpet/Cornet and called it a Tuba. Other then that, another great review from the man the myth the legend himself.
Perhaps King Review-Brah's initial enthusiasm for the "spicy" fish was immeasurable.. as he also pointed to a saxophone 🎷 and called it an electric 🎸 guitar. 😄

I bought the Classic Flounder sandwich combo today. First of all I LOVE Popeyes chicken. I went thru the drive-thru. First of all, I and the person ahead of me sat at the orderwing screen for almost 10 minutes each. The person taking the drive-thru orders just kept saying to me, "I'm sorry I'll be right with you" and then complete silence. I almost just drove off. So, after getting my food I drive into a parking spot and examined what I got. The sandwich was packaged in a nice wrapper like yours. My fries though had literally been dumped into the bottom of the bag. When I opened up the fish sandwich packaging and started eating the sandwich all I can say it was on soggy mess! The bun and fillet were literally swimming in a mayo-like dressing and because of that with each bite the fish fillet (which was large) would squish out of the back of the bun and attempting to push it back in place just caused the pickles to shoot out of the front of the sandwich. And, to me, the fillet was awfully spicy despite it being just the "classic" fillet. I wish I had had a camera like you have to have recorded this mess I had to eat. I'll never order it again! And, then, several hours later I developed bad heartburn from all the spices in the sandwich. So, combined with other bad fast food experiences I have had recently fast food in quickly becoming an enemy of mine.
Great video Review Brah. I'd like to make one suggestion -- maybe you can lower the camera so we can see some of the table. I think it would make the video look more rich. I like seeing your plate and cup and note paper. But you're the expert :)
The Popeyes here in Virginia, we used to have Po' Boy Sandwiches....( A sub roll filled with fried shrimp or chicken tenders. ). The shrimp Po' Boy was the best fast food item that has ever existed in my 39 years. They were competing with a New Orleans themed place called Bojangles. After Bojangles left town, Popeyes gave up their attempt at creole style marketing. Which sucks because Bojangles also had dank fried chicken but also had side dishes like crawfish etoufe` and the best mashed taters and gravy this side of grandma's house.
I think I know why we always come back to watch Reviewbrah....In an era of obscenities and an overall change in modern culture for better or worse, Reviewbrah is very well mannered, respectful, clear and concise, as well as being completely honest, dresses and presents his physical self very well, is generally cheerful and optimistic, and has a refined sense of humor that carries his videos. No craziness. A refined man with refined taste in food that makes for the best food reviews on UA-cam. Yes, all this is apart of his character that he presents for his audience on here, but I do believe in reality the real man off camera carries these wonderful traits as well. We need more people like Reviewbrah this day and age!
I'm glad I watched this before wasting my money. I had been considering trying it and because I don't eat a lot of Popeyes it was an easy decision to make. Jack in the Box has their fish sandwich now available. Looks good on the menu but I'm yet to try it. Maybe you can review it? It can't be any worse than what you ate from Popeyes 😄
I used to work at Popeye's, starstruck they took the flounder off the menu to begin with, i mean it wasn't popular, but it was really good, I had to serve at least a few per day. but the fact that they made it come back WITHOUT the tartar, which was one of the saving graces is insane to me

Just had the Jack in the Box fish sandwich if you ask for it to be doubled ask for half or lite sauce cause they drown the fillet with it. Other than that the fillet isn’t that bad tbh
I disagree 100% This sandwich is really, really good! Pickles give it a pop also. Sauce fits nicely on this sandwich. This review in my opinion is a big fail
Fish covers a wide variety of species and preparations. Some are horrible, and some are beautiful in taste. I used to think fish were poor tasting because I had only eaten frozen fish, plus cheap fish from a fish and chips shop. I had only bought myself fresh Barramundi from the cool section caught that day, not frozen, and I was amazed at the difference, this tasted better than any meat I had ever eaten before, it was soft and rich and amazing. The point is, with fish the way it's stored, and the species that it is, make a huge difference. Some species of fish just taste horrible, because they are too lean and have barely fat in them, these are usually the cheaper ones. And then also if the fish is frozen it destroys the structure of the meat and makes the liquid and fat separate from the tissue, you don't want this. Additionally if you overcook fish, it becomes bad also, it becomes dry and horrible. Ultimately you have to fish of all choose a good species, like a Barramundi, Golden Perch, Tuna, Trout etc, you have to get this fish fresh, either catch it yourself, or buy it from the area where it's just laying over ice, but isn't actually frozen. And lastly when you cook this fish, you must only cook it to the point that it's cooked, don't cook it beyond that, because the longer it's overcooked, the harder and dryer it will become. If you do this, follow it correctly, fish is truly amazing. In fact this is why I got back into fishing, now I catch fish and get amazing meals out of it, meat better than any other meat.

Good thing I was already on the floor when you started describing the sandwich. My associate, however, was not so lucky. He spontaneously combusted and burnt through floor, ending up in the basement. There goes my damage deposit.
A friend of mine ordered a fish sandwich from McDonald's and decided to eat it there. He bit into it, and it was ice cold. He took it back to the counter and got a burger instead. As he was eating, he overheard someone say, "EW! SOMEONE TOOK A BITE OUT OF MY FISH SANDWHICH!" True story.
strikes me as odd to go with flounder for a spicy sort of cajun fish sandwich. like, they are popeye's, they should be doing po'boys! breaded shrimp or blackened catfish, crisp lettuce, mayo, pickles, sweet hot sauce, and the brioche would make it. decently sized fish sandwich for what it is tho...
I do get excited about the fish sandwich because I love fish sandwiches . And people who are kosher and Jewish get excited about fish season because they can eat fish during the time they can’t eat beef.
A Popeyes will soon be opening in my area but it may too late for this sandwich...am very anxious to try their menu items..as far as the BEST fish sandwich..hands down it is Culver's...especially now when they have their North Woods Walleye sandwich and/or dinner available :)

A fish sandwich is one of the few things that I don't want to be spicy. I want good tartar sauce. That's the whole reason I'm getting it.
I like either lemon juice with fish, or cocktail sauce. I've never liked all that mayyo.

My family loves them. We garnish them with a thick slice of tomato, pepper Jack cheese, and mayonnaise. Turns it into an excellent sandwich.

If you want the best fish sandwich just order a Mcdonalds fish sandwich with and add an extra slice of cheese, it's outstanding.
A 60/40 split of the tarter sauce and their hot sauce will fix the problem.
Agree…the spicy sauce don’t go well with the fish. Just your normal tartar sauce would be good.

A friend of mine ordered a fish sandwich from McDonald's and decided to eat it there. He bit into it, and it was ice cold. He took it back to the counter and got a burger instead. As he was eating, he overheard someone say, "EW! SOMEONE TOOK A BITE OUT OF MY FISH SANDWHICH!" True story.
strikes me as odd to go with flounder for a spicy sort of cajun fish sandwich. like, they are popeye's, they should be doing po'boys! breaded shrimp or blackened catfish, crisp lettuce, mayo, pickles, sweet hot sauce, and the brioche would make it.

I do get excited about the fish sandwich because I love fish sandwiches . And people who are kosher and Jewish get excited about fish season because they can eat fish during the time they can’t eat beef.
A Popeyes will soon be opening in my area but it may too late for this sandwich...am very anxious to try their menu items..as far as the BEST fish sandwich..hands down it is Culver's...especially now when they have their North Woods Walleye sandwich and/or dinner available :)
