I think your throttle linkage needs adjustment. That engine should really roar when at full throttle. And the fact you bogged down a few times shows you are under powered. With that small a mower the 656 should barely notice it even in tall grass. I didn't notice your tach, there should be a mark on it showing PTO rpm. I have a 656 Hydro utility diesel.
You seem like a good hard worker. I'd like to find someone like you to work for me on our farm in Montana. Farmers around here can't find local help, so we have to import them. I have had workers from Argentina, Brazil, Switzerland and South Africa. They are excellent workers, but I would still like to hire Americans. If you ever want a "change of scenery" let me know!
My dad's Farmall tractor had the front wheel separated. The one you are driving has the front wheels that would make it easier to tip over. We horse hoed on a hill. Thank goodness the front wheels were the other style.💕 NonnaGrace
Yes, that series of gas engines were notoriously cold-blooded from cold. They have to be hot to run well. As gas engines go, very economical, which is why they are so col-blooded.

I have a early 70’s 656, runs like a dream still. Probably because we change plugs and oil every 12hrs (which is each year for it)

The first build year for the 656 was 1965, and that's the year mine was built. They're good tractors.

Nobody runs a brush hog that low on the ground. You have it nose down, it should be level with rear end

jan labij diesels are worse it could be 100 degrees outside and you still have to hold the glow plugs for 15 minutes
