despite the negative comments shown here, the video was reasonably well made. At least the gentleman attempt to show how to assemble this NUC. The fact that some errors may have been made, is irrelevant. The NUC did boot-up and did load the OS. Also learning what NOT to do, is as important as the correct method. Overall rating out of 5, would be about a 4.
I just put one together; I recommend hooking the antenna leads first, then insert it into the socket. It's difficult to reach down into the box to snap the connectors on, especially if you get the deeper case that can accommodate a 2-1/2" hard drive. This is an extremely well thought out packaging job by Intel. It was really cute to slide the carton open and hear Intel play their "Intel Inside" tune. It was like Intel did their hamster dance as you open the box.
which ram slot to use if you are only using one card, upper or lower? There is an order about these things. Also, arent you supposed to handle ram by the edges only?
one comment, when you put in the ram i think the 2nd one wasn't put in properly it's on the right side not deep enough and i dont think the securing mechanism on the right was proper either, eitherway what it gets down to always just take your time and double check your work :)
Yes. This is essentially a home built PC, not a completed computer in kit form. Like any home built PC, you have to purchase the OS. You copy the windows distribution disk over to a USB flash card for installation. You won't need it after that. Or you could use a USB powered external CD/DVD drive. It may not have been clear from his video, but the memory, SSD disk drive and the bluetooth/wifi module are also separate purchases. This is the same as building any PC from parts. You chose the configuration and purchase the items you select.
Just use xbmcbuntu its free and I'm guessing you just want a set top box rather than an actual PC. other than that then yeah you need to buy windows if you dont wanna use Linux
Hi, I am going to buy one of these and have a question concerning the Consumer Infra-red Receiver that is within the NUC. I have an xbox 360 controller from my bundled console/controller package. Usually you have to buy a separate receiver if you wish to use this on your PC. However, the NUC has an IR receiver and was wondering if this is compatible with the xbox 360 wireless game controller? Therefore, I would not have to buy the official Microsoft xbox 360 wireless controller receiver.
Can you help, have NUC 5i5RYH, installed ram and solid state drive, it says on box has wireless AC 7265 but when I installed windows and went to find a wireless connection or even plugged a CAT 5 cable in nothing, says no hardwear. Can you help tell me what is going on?, also I presume the sound will travel re HDMI cable but also says no sound? Any tips please
you have to make sure that you have the wireless kit 19.60.0 or above for the wireless setup and network card. and make sure the on board sound is on in bios. (legacy)
So in theory I cold put this device on my tv an start to play games on my tv with the keyboard and mouse and I would get descent settings or will the be affected by the connection of the wifi
@cris cross hi I'm looking to buy this computer but I'm not a computer expert as u are. can I please send the components I need in order that it should work properly ( not the Bluetooth and WiFi because the new generation has it integrated) thanks
Omg , I would never allow you near my pc build after seeing how forceful you are and clumsy with screwdriver, I really thought you might have damaged the board there at one stage with the screwdriver, I can see the ram is not inserted correctly and you just force it down , You hear that snap I think that was the ram cracking ,Great video tho apart from that in regards of info.
Tony P Are you fucking stupid? Of course I can see the RAM stick is wrongly fitted. What makes you think that sound is supposed to sound the same all the time? Explain how you think the RAM cracked when he managed to make the NUC boot. And also, I've built and changed several parts on two computers, so that last sentence is just stupid. Like you.
I tried changing the language. There was an error; it booted itself and showed command prompt like window. What should i do? How do i install new Windows 8 on it? Where do i get the Bootable usb Windows 8 for mini pc? Please solve this. Thank you.
Dear friend you can help me please.I hooked up an external hard drive costs Bot To install Windus 7 from Installation disk.and when it comes to selecting the installation language all freezes and can not Use anything Thank you
You install a bluetooth enabled wifi card but buy a wireless keyboard that requires a dongle for a computer that only has 3 usb ports? I love the part where you call the keyboard and dongle for the keyboard "bluetooth" (3:20), but sadly it is not. LOL
Monitor fails to turn on Intel NUC KIT DE3815TYKHE - Before we can install the OS we need to have the monitor display turn on. That is the trouble - no information is sent to the monitor. We swapped the 8g memory, tried both ports and also swapped the cables Can you help
hi, anyone can help, i am planning to buy NUC5i7RYH with these items : 1. Kingston 8 Gb (KVR16LS11/8) (RAM) 2. Samsung 850 EVO 250 Gb.(1st SSD storage for the system) 3. Hitachi HGST 1 Tb (7K1000) 7200 rpm, 2.5" (2nd for Data) would these parts work with the machine ? thank you.
Gerard Tan For official Intel tested components please go to the Intel NUC site. e.g. the RAM memory list is here www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dk-nuc5i7ryh/sb/CS-035441.htm?_ga=1.183182496.766917452.1435686151
I'm sorry I was wrong before.Dear friend you can help me please.I hooked up an external disk drive costs Bot To install Windus 7 from Installation disk.and when it comes to selecting the installation language all freezes and can not Use anything Thank you
There are different versions of them. The ones you can use the 2.5 drive have different model numbers and the most obvious is the nuc is bigger height wise.
There are several configurations ranging from the Atom E3815 up to the I5-3427U. They vary with features, some support a 2-1/2" hard drive, some don't. You pick the performance you need from intel dot com/nucsupport. Then you pick your components. You need a solid state drive and memory. Chose your parts then shop by your parts list. Minimum configuration would be around $150 for the board, $60 for the SSD, $50 for 4GB memory, $100 for windows 7 home or windows 8. The I5 kit costs $378 plus whatever you install.

i think the 2nd ram is not seated properly..
You're correct!
If the second RAM is not seated correctly, the NUC either wont boot OR will only read the properly placed RAM

So windows is a separate purchase? Along with the bootable flash card?

Would the Centrino Advanced-N 6235 Wireless also work in this NUC?

Can you share the usb dongle model and make that was used for the keyboard receiver?
Were you using the mouse pad from your Bluetooth keyboard on bios before Windows installation?
why did it say that the cpu was clocked at 2.8GHz in the UEFI but in windows it said 1.8GHz?
All this time, i could only focus on the one DDR3 module that was only plugged halfway into the board.
holy moly IT WORK GO to 8:40 and see if the ram is placed correctly
how do you connect it to a speaker unit?
hey what type of style is your intro? i was trying to find a tutorial thats similar to your intro. huge fan of your videos btw
the 2nd Ram you might re-plug again

can I work on this like normal pc ? will it take heat if use long time?
16 ram so can I use video edit softwaers?
So in theory I cold put this device on my tv an start to play games on my tv with the keyboard and mouse and I would get descent settings or will the be affected by the connection of the wifi
Nicely presented. Good quality video and info. Good to know about the laptop memory.
does the INTEL NUC already come with ram, hardrive, and other things such as the wireless network adpater????????????????
some NUC do and some don't. A manual is provided for setup purposes
what exacf model is the nuc?
@cris cross
hi
I'm looking to buy this computer but I'm not a computer expert as u are.
can I please send the components I need in order that it should work properly ( not the Bluetooth and WiFi because the new generation has it integrated)
thanks
do u have to leave the usb in all the time or just to install windows
only for because the OS goes on the SSD
Omg , I would never allow you near my pc build after seeing how forceful you are and clumsy with screwdriver, I really thought you might have damaged the board there at one stage with the screwdriver, I can see the ram is not inserted correctly and you just force it down , You hear that snap I think that was the ram cracking ,Great video tho apart from that in regards of info.
That snap is there to let you know the RAM is properly pushed down and in place; It's supposed to be there.
Tony P Are you fucking stupid? Of course I can see the RAM stick is wrongly fitted. What makes you think that sound is supposed to sound the same all the time? Stop having a go at him he's trying to make a good video and I'm sure he realised but professionally waited till the camera was off too fix it.
That was not ram cracking, that was the retention clasp clicking into place.
TiredOldFart mmm maybe not but you can defiantly see the ram is not in square on the second one that he inserts.
I tried changing the language. There was an error; it booted itself and showed command prompt like window. What should i do? How do i install new Windows 8 on it? Where do i get the Bootable usb Windows 8 for mini pc? Please solve this. Thank you.

does it need a thermal pad for the SSD?

is there any cheapier ram? any links please? would be pleased also eu would be fine :)
How did the wireless keyboard and mouse get "discovered"?
My nuc cant turn on. Power light on and offf slowly .... do you know it?
Maybe plug the wires in to the Wi-Fi card before fitting it and screwing it down?
I liked well explained tutorial it very, you me left much will to buy one this in Brazil little is known here Thanks a lot.
It looked like the second stick of memory was not seated all the way.

I know this is an ancient comment but did you get that fixed in the end? I've got the same problem now lol.

the 2nd ram is not set correctly...
you didnt position your ram properly
You think he would have noticed that the RAM was install incorrectly during the video editing process.
Hopefully when Broadwell comes out Intel release some i7 NUC's and they have Iris Pro graphics.
EDIT* And a black PCB
Where can I buy one? Great video!
newegg.com
kinda jumps right into the software from plugging in the usb...? Nothing about the bios or graphics updates or anything lol
HOW DO I GET THE SOUND TO WORK ????
Solid-state drive (SSD) and hard disk drive (HDD) are not the same!
i thougt there is a slot for a 2.5 inch hard drive. The NUC team talked about it.
There are different versions of them. The ones you can use the 2.5 drive have different model numbers and the most obvious is the nuc is bigger height wise.
Wrong install upper RAM stick !!!
Awesome Video man. thank you!
Can I install Windows 7 ultimate on it
you can install any version of windows 7 on it

thank you
The only thing I remembered was that this computer expert installed the RAM wrong... epic fail at 8:18
