Hi Rev! You are an inspiration. I am 74 and set to complete my 900 Miler Award this Spring for hiking all the trails in the Smokies. I am blessed to still be able to do what I love.
Thank you very much, Dan. You’re so kind. Congratulations on your accomplishment.😁
shhhh, not telling my wife just yet...got to finish a house building project this year, but in 2025, when I'm 74, I'll be wondering if I'm finally mature enough to return to the PCT again :) GK
@@grampakilt Good for you. Go for it. 😁
Wonderful. Thanks for the update. I hope you achieve your goals for 2024. 👍
Thanks Rod. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.😁
Hey Thanks again REV looking forward to them
Hey Bill. I’m looking forward to great things happening this year.😁
The Hiking Rev! First day, my friends and I were on the PCT in Oregon (Aug. 2020) he hiked by. We looked at each other and said if this old guy can do this……😄We surely can. Later bumped into him on UA-cam and has been an inspiration ever since!!!!
Another serendipitous crossing of paths-5:59-6:17 on this video, you are floating down the Rogue River right past our property and my husband's stomping grounds. We have floated that section thousands of times. Recognized it immediately!! Hope you had a great vacation. BTW, hoping to finish up Oregon this summer, my husband is feeling good enough to join me. We are 72 and 73 old youngsters! God bless you.
Thanks Gary and Peggy. I wish I could go with you. I loved the Oregon section of the PCT. 😁
Without a doubt, you are welcome to hike with us anytime....and if it doesn't happen here.....we'll see ya...... in Heaven!😊@@TheHikingRev
Welcome Back Rev!!!! Love the family time, and great to hear your future plans! Looking forward to following along! God Bless you and your family!
Thank you. For me, seeing my family is the greatest motivating factor to finishing the trail. 😁
Hi Rev. Looking forward to going back with you to Ireland to finish your thru hike there. Will be tuning in to all of your videos as you put them out - wherever you may be hiking. Have a great 2024.. Take care, Rev and stay safe.
Thanks Judith. I’m looking forward to it also.😁
Thanks Rev for the update… I’m glad our paths crossed in 2023 and hope they will again someday. Looking forward to seeing your videos in the coming year! Stay safe my friend….
Thank you Jim. I really enjoyed the time that we spent together. I hope that I can make it across the country again and see you as well as the other folks that I met on the Pinot Trail.😁
Hi Rev! Great to hear from you. At 64 and recently retired, I walk or hike most days, but I have never backpacked. My plan is to give it a whirl this year. Thank you and happy trails!
Thanks Gary. Just take it slow and ease into it. You can do it! 😁
Hi Reverend Callahan, I really enjoyed this video as you brought us up to date. I do wish you the best as you continue your trek through Ireland. Thank you for sharing your photos of your family. I have a son in Seattle who is an avid camper and hope to catch up with him this summer. It’s nice to see that you purchased a RV and enjoying more time on the road. I’m going to be 65yo this September and this will be my 2nd year getting out and enjoying the great outdoors. Heading to Glacier National Park in June which I’m very excited. Rev, I wish you and Mrs. Rev the best. Stay well and stay healthy 🙏🫶👍
Thank you Dave. You’re very kind. I love our RV and staying on the road. 😁
Frequented Joshua Tree in my younger days. I’m planning a hike from my house to Lassen park via the PCT starting at Cold springs north of Beldon. So glad to hear you aren’t giving up. I’m 72. God be with you.
Thanks. That’s a beautiful section of the PCT.😁
Glad to see you’re back after some wonderful family time. I will be watching for your new videos of your adventures this year.
Thank you so much. You’re so kind. 😁

I’m almost 66 and really want to do the AT. Praying about it. Excited for you to finish the Ireland Way. We are also going to do the Kerry Way in June. My hubby and I have completed 3 they hikes in Ireland and absolutely loved it. He passed away last year, so I’m taking my daughter this time. Have a great time! Slainte!
Awe…sorry to hear of your husband’s passing.
I’m not sure if the Ireland Way intersects with the Kerry Way but maybe we will see each other this June. 😁
❤ From 🇮🇪

Hi Rev, love your channel! Am set to hike the John Muir this year at the young age of 60. Planned for it last year, but, uh, snowmageddon. In August I woke up and could not walk. Apparently Sciatica!!! Lots of PT and definite PT exercises and lessons for life, I hope to hike the AT and the PCT in my near future.
looking forward to your adventures in 2024 , God Bless you sir
Thank you very much. I’m looking forward to them also.😁

Yeah age is just a number but 70 is a LOT of numbers! 😂....sorry, had to pick on you a little bit. I can't say too much because im the same age and still hiking. Looking forward to your adventures. God bless every step.
Hey Shirley. 70 sure, is a lot of numbers, Isn’t it? But it sure beats the alternative. 😂
True dat 🤣
I hope your plans will come true. This summer I want to do several longer hikes in the Alps.
Me too Daniel. Good luck on your hikes in the Alps. 😁
Looking fine at 70, Rev! GK
Thanks. You’re my muse. 😁

Hey Wade. Hope I can get some bucket list items completed this year.😁
Hi Rev! Good to hear from you. I was wondering when you would be picking up The Ireland Way again. I'll be following on that and your other hikes as well. Blessings on your day!
Thank you Ruth. I’m looking forward to completing my hike of the Ireland Way this year. 😁
Super Rev! I just finished watching a woman I follow on UA-cam that finished the Ireland Way. All the best to finishing it when you go back ! Looks like an awesome trail.
Question: given you’ve done the Pinhoti Trail and portion of Ireland Way. Have you had any problems with ticks? How do you deal with that?
Look forward to your adventures later this year. Go get em! 🌞
Thanks.
I’m probably watching the same one.
I brought some Deet with me but I didn’t use it. But that’s what I usually do. 😬

Great video ! You’re a young buck still, do you ever feel a sense of anxiety that you may never finish your yearly bucket list ? I’m 59 great shape but I think I make a barrel list as I never get to achieve them and does create a bit of anxiety in me .I suppose I just have to make more realistic outdoor goals that fits in with life lol
Love the videos keep them coming & best to you !
Thanks Dale. I would rather make goals and not achieve them then not make goals at all.😁
I live on the East coast, would love to do a hike with you.
👍
Rev, what’s the plan for Ireland? Do you want some company for a week.
I’m not sure when I’m going back. Gotta wait for airfare prices to go down. 😁
Rev how long did it take you to do the Pinhoti? We really enjoy your content!
Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed it. 28 days. I stated on April 12 and finished on May 9. 😁
I have a question for you guys with experience..
I am 49 with zero backpacking experience although I am a texas country boy with plenty of experience in the woods..
I have tons of old injuries and I take medication..
I am hitting the lone star hiking trail in a few weeks..
I am not going to get in a hurry..
I figure as long as I keep moving it is a win.
I am shooting for 8 to ten miles a day.
I am heading out on a Wednesday and will be be picked up on a Sunday..
My gear list is solid,I have done plenty of research but I have 2 ?'s..
One,I selected a 50 degree sleeping bag..
I thought the 30 degree was overkill for texas in March although it does get cold in March especially at night sometimes.. did I make a mistake?
Two,everything I read says that for food a good rule of thumb is 2 pounds per day but that sounds like a lot if the foods are dried, oatmeal, powdered eggs ect?
Thoughts?
Advice?
1. I’d get a minimum 30 degree quilt. It does get “chilly” at night.
2. I don’t “cook” or cold-soak on trail. Just carry food that doesn’t have to be cooked. (Beef sticks, cheese, jerky, summer sausage, tortillas, bagels and cream cheese, pepperoni, chips, protein bars, etc. )
@@TheHikingRev yeah,I am considering returning it and getting the 30 degrees..
And not cooking sounds like good advice.. saves on weight and hassle for sure.
And smear…
@@MarmaladeOutdoors i had to Google that one..
