I grew up watching the tonight show with Carson in the 60's and 70's and with all of the top talented artist that preformed night after night on the tonight show there was one artist that every time he preformed on the tonight show his proformance would totally blow you away it was atomic the closest to being hit by an atomic bomb in tight. Buddy Riches performances were the most mind blowing, powerful, mesmerizing, and jaw dropping performances of any other artist each and every time he preformed.
Buddy influenced a whole lot of drummers. Carl Palmer, John Bonham, Neil Peart. He had incredible speed, power dexterity. But he lacked was a good attitude. He was rude to bandmates!!! I met a dude some years ago who went with his dad to go see mr Rich and his big band in Los Angeles in the late 70s. He was a young kid at the time. He asked Buddy for an autograph. Buddy was rude, and said no. He also said go away, you're disturbing my dinner! Or something like that. The kid left in tears!! His dad wanted to fight Buddy. Mr Rich also had some of the worst posture I've ever seen. Always hunched over. No ergonomics.
He got better as he got older. The BEST!
