My very great grandmother Francis Elizabeth Hutchins was arrested for being a witch during the witch trials she spent I think 130 days in jail and she was finally bailed out at the end of the trials
X Sasha_ lovely X at the end of the trials people were exonerated, including tituba who was the first person accused and the first to confess to the crimes.
The silence is haunting and gives a reflection of the darkness of that year of 1692. Beautiful home, dark history. Cannot wait to visit Salem next Autumn.
6:35 This beautiful antique is a bible box from 1699. No true Christian family would be caught without a proper bible in their home, which were were gigantic and expensive. Thus, they protected their treasured possession inside a very ornate bible box that included a small inside shelf for an ink well, quills and plenty of space for the good book. The box could also double as a preaching podium. The slant is so that the book could be placed there and read to the family or congregation. We are privileged to own one from 1666, the year of the Great Fire of London. Like ours, the bible box displayed at the Salem Witch House was made in Englad from oak wood, giving it its dark color. American bible boxes were often made of pine wood and are lighter in color. Thank you for the great video! My wife and I truly enjoyed our visit.
The Corwin House was the best museum experience I had in Salem. So much information. So much detail. This one was just so enriching. Definitely worth doing.
I took pictures at all the museums that allowed it. This was the only one that really gave me the creeps, and I even picked up some obviously paranormal figures in my pictures. Only at this house though, nowhere else in Salem.
At first I thought “Why doesn’t he tell us stuff as you’re moving around the house?” It didn’t take long to appreciate that approach to your video skills, which are really well done. I love history, particularly Colonial. The only small thing I would change is when you focus on printed descriptions and explanations, go a little slower to give us a little more time to read it.....and then go back to the things spoken about. You’ve got a exceptional camera but, you’ve clearly mastered the skills to make this video exceptional. I loved it! Thanks for sharing a part of our history.

What an absolutely GORGEOUS looking house! Thanks for posting this Mr. Tom - I found it (Somehow) cozy and comforting! I'm not a goth guy or a depressed, morbid teen who's lonely and obsessed with either death or the occult - I'm a Deadhead who loves classic rock and other instrumentally-based music....I've saved this and will come back to it the future though. Again, this was beautiful.
I like this video as it shows what things could be found in a 17th century house, in Salem, Mass. I have always been curious about the Salem Witch trials, in your country. Thanks for making this very informative video! ~Janet in Canada

What’s sad is that simply having fun with a friend within Church hours would be considered witchcraft. Aka “witch hunt” many people died for no reason.
@@damattice23 That’s a subjective response, it was reason for the Puritans way of life in the 1600s. If you were born and raised back, then, you would have a different outlook as well. You can’t punish the past not being as refined as you, there was a lot of people who died and shed blood for you to live carefree and easy-going today. Some countries what you consider unfair, to them is the way of life.
To think.. when they lived there.. it was a home. Now it’s a museum. When they lived there they had no idea their house would play a pivotal role and become a museum.
Hi. Those truly were horrific and tragic times. So many innocents lost to things misunderstood by so many others. Thank you so much, for your excellent showing of the Witch Trials of the 1600s. And wow, that house is amazing
Chilling, haunting, yet very interesting! The exterior of the house does give a British vibe. It certainly stands out... in a good way if you ask me. Thanks for uploading!
I am intrigued by the sign explaining the shoe. We have an old house from the early 1800’s and we were doing some work in the crawl space under the house. I found an old shoe buried in the corner. It was obviously from the 1800’s due to the style of the shoe. There was only one shoe. I thought it was garbage and junk so I threw it away. My son told his teacher about the shoe and the teacher said what the sign in this tour said. Then I was upset because I threw away my good luck protection shoe. But at the time I had no idea what it was for.
There is so much ignorance of the Salem witch trials. The victims were all innocent. There were no "witches" in Salem. The condemned were all hung on Proctor's Hill, except for Giles Corey who was pressed to death with rocks. The real historic trials were a tragedy brought on by the mass hysteria of impressionable young girls living in a repressive religious culture and brought on by the stories of Tituba, the West Indies slave woman. Suddenly teenage girls who would otherwise be ignored by adults and forgotten were listened to by courts and judges. Their denunciations against the accused gave them a lot of power in a society where there was fear of the supernatural. The result was paranoia and tragedy. Unfortunately, human nature doesn't change, only the individual scenario. The fear of an invasion of Japanese during World War ll brought on the imprisonment of loyal Japanese Americans; the infamous Senator Joseph McCarthy had people looking for Communists under their beds and around corners in the 1950's. Both of these historic incidents involved unreasoning paranoia and led to tragedy; people lost homes, land, and careers; others committed suicide.
Appears to me that the majority were practicing strange beliefs though. The poppet dolls, the one shoe, cannibalism(!). Maybe the ones being accused were the ones actually innocent.
Thank you so much for this video. I'd love to travel but until my finances can take the hit, I make do with UA-cam videos. It was great to be able to hit the pause button and read the texts. Had no idea human blood, fat, tissue, and bone was used medicinally! The Puritans were so strict and superstitious, one would have lived in an almost constant state of anxiety for fear of being accused of witchcraft--as so many poor innocents were.
Fascinating museum. Thanks so much for posting a comprehensive tour. I've visited there twice, but it was closed both times. So frustrating. Looking at the utterly horrifying medical practices described in this museum makes me grateful to be alive in our current time period, lol. SNAIL WATER? DRINKING BLOOD? DUNG WATER? Can't believe people thought these practices would be helpful!
Imagine living at a time when owning and living in that house meant you were one of the wealthy elites. The standard of living rose pretty quickly in 300 years.
So unreal that they thought so many were witches, and yet they had numerous ways (spells) to ward off witches. Sad that so many were murdered because of their ignorance. Have been to Salem, it is awesome. Thank you for this tour, it was closed when I was there on Halloween years ago. Cannot believe that they just have those flimsy ropes up to keep people off the furniture, and have some stuff out where anyone could touch it. Hopefully it is all copies.
When I was young my mom and dad took me on the Salem witch tour. We visited this house. My dad thought it was just crazy. I have a picture of him, me and a period worker on the front steps. My dad clearly has a pig snout! Crazy????
This house is so eerie in person. While inside I felt SO nauseous and sick. Symptoms went away maybe 30 minutes later when we left the house. Weirdest feeling ever
I got the same feelings just watching the video. I have been in old houses that made me feel that way and as soon as I stepped outside of them I felt better. I get a sad feeling watching this.
I wonder what went in Johnathan Corwin's head after his death when he met those people and knew then he'd sent all those innocent people torture and death ( and took their land.) I do not believe in heaven and hell but spiritworld I do believe and Judge Jonathan's " hell" in afterlife must have been the knowledge that people will know in future what a bastard and murdere he had been. Also interested 2.45 what are those scissors are for maybe wig curles? What about those huge silvery plates? Did he stuff his face with that much of food every meal?
