Very informative video, thank you! On Fashion nova, I just can’t respect how they steal designs to make their clothes from individual designers to cheaply manufacture their looks. Fashion nova has definitely changed the fashion industry but not for the better.
you lost me when you talked your way around shoveling ethical issues on the manufacturers, not the brands. we have been saying "oh, brands need to do a better job" for far too long. we have literally begun the process of burying the world in cheap textiles using outsourced slave labor. brands know what they are doing, the goal is to profit as much as possible as quickly as possible. the industry reached a point of no return in the damage it inflicts on the world long ago, on the backs of individuals willing to say "oh I agree brands need to do a better job" over and over again.
But Fashion Nova has also lost their influence not just because they are fast fashion but their models all have Bbls and the clothes are made for them. Fashion nova really took off when the kadashians were the beauty standard but nowadays people are going more for the natural look
@@gee_emm not ‘purposely thin’. you wouldn’t and probably DID NOT call this wave of diet adjusting to gain weight and building thighs in the gym “pUrPosElY tHiCk”. plenty of women have natural asses, but with stomachs, chunky elbows, and all sorts of other “disproportionate” attributes because fat distribution is different for everyone. when you lose the weight in other areas without medical fat isolation, the ass goes right along with it and so do cup sizes. I don't understand your reasoning here. Fashion Nova produces clothes intended for clubbing. So first of all, these clothes will not be used a lot and no one really needs a lot of these clothes. It was founded because it is unacceptable to be photographed twice in the same outfit. So instead of having 2 good quality outfits you can now have 20, 40 or however many outfits because they are cheap. And you don't have to wear any of these more than once (due to the quality, you probably won't be able to use them more than once anyway), what a great concept. And you mean Fashion Nova doesn't know what the consequences are? This is really ridiculous. Fashion Nova wants to make money, no matter what the impact on the environment and society is, and they know what they're doing.
I didn’t get the vibe that the video was pro-Fashion Nova vs just explaining its rise, but I agree that all these companies know very well what’s going on in manufacturing their cheap clothes. I don’t this video explained the transition from local manufacturers to international ones very well. We all know if clothes are being made in the US there is at least a legal obligation for fair pay, so if they maintain local contracts that’s something fairly positive.
@@13realmusic Great comment. But I too got the impression that this video let FN off the hook a little too easily. Saying it’s not the brands fault, it’s the manufactures, and other brands do it too. Not a very convincing argument. Hard to justify the labour exploitation when you are living in one of the most expensive mansions in LA.
Don't forget the fact that they are one of the main brands that copy luxurious brands' style and sell it for much cheaper. I am aware that FN is not the only brand that does this but they have actually become known for it in recent years and are one of the best next to Shein.
I do love this channel for fashion brand history. However that was a vague and dissatisfying breakdown of world economics. It is not the consumers responsibility to ensure they are consuming ethically. Individualized responsibility doesn’t make any sense. if we’re being honest, this mentality is not helping. firstly, it is the governments job to make sure a business is ethical and there must be more legislature in place to make sure this happens. then it is the company’s. manufacturers supplying cheap labor is a result of American and European demand for resources and colonization. We will not see any progression in ethics in late stage capitalism because there are virtually no regulations these businesses are required to adhere to.

This was a good piece, Whether we like it or not, fast Fashion is part of the game now and FN is one of the kings of it. Every one can't afford LV or Rick Owens. I had no information about this story so this was dope. At some point you'll have to do Uniqlo and ZARA too.
I didn’t realize the dude was an actual pioneer (he got incredibly lucky, sure) but it seems like he was ahead of the game in many ways. He’s one of the people that wrote The Playbook, it seems.
2:33 slightly unrelated but Audreyana Michelle is the most beautiful model that they ever employed. My goodness those glowing green eyes make every outfit pop.
I found out that Fashion NOVA does not allow returns and only store credit. I will now only ever buy something from them as a last resort... or of course to use up my store credit.
Capitalistic kingggg✨I loved the analysis of consumers , sustainability, and pure business men. He isn’t known for fashion , more so a business model . I’d like to see coverage on the economy system and their social responsibility

Their buses model relies on bad manufacturer business practices. If the manufacturers did everything by the book and treated employees fairly and humanely Fashion Nova would be directly impacted and they know that therefore they can’t be absolved of responsibility in this case, without those overworked and underpaid workers they are nothing.
I know where the money comes from. They simply won't return you money if you returned an item. Even if it's their fault (wrong size, broken pieces, etc). They steel your money and give you a shitty gift card that you may not even use afterwards.
Cardi B deserves more, Cardi should get out of that company full of trash.. Cardi B deserves Mugler, Nensi Dojaka or something else a real fashion company with sustainability and responsibilities caring for the earth
So before I even watch let me speculate on an answer to how he got so rich/successful: he made clothes THAT FIT EVERYONE. Big, small, overweight, underweight, cheap, expensive…you name it, he made it. Yes controversies happened, but one thing that doesn’t is making buyers feel like garbage for not wearing size 10, while not making things exclusively for plus size which massively ups the prices (not sure why exclusively plus companies do that). That’s my 5 cents haha.
This was very vague and you skipped over a lot, like the main group & race of people who popularized the brand. It was also weird that you shifted blame alot in the video especially onto consumers, if cunsumers can “research”, brands should and can research what kind of labor their manufacturers are using. That man was already comfortable and his parents were not poor at all, far from it.
I really liked this video, but I think one thing you missed was the importance of rap music/hip hop culture and fashion nova. Yea the kardashians promoted fashion nova , but I think the constant shout outs in rap songs and seeing the brand promoted by alot of popular rappers girl friends. Helped propel the brand to where it is today

I’m sorry to say, but many of the facts in this video are very wrong. I spent over 30 years in fashion industry, and I’m now retired at the age of 51. The way fashion nova started as he would only go out and buy stock quantities from the downtown Alley. He never did any sort of cut ups or quantities in advance and no it is absolutely impossible to turn anything around in 24 hours. I don’t care if it’s the most basic item it will not happen you have to buy fabric and it takes the fabric 24 hours just to relax before you can even cut it let alone sew it. Up until only a few years ago. This is how his business model was. He went out into the alley, and he only bought stock items that were hanging in the Korean market. Recently he did bring in Greg Scott, who if you know anything about fashion is quite a person to bring on board. Greg Scott used to run BEBE. He ran bebe for most of bebe’s life. He then went and ran Arden B, after Arden b, Greg spent about 13 years at New York and Company. He is now at fashion nova and he is a very very strong merchandiser. If they do any sort of cut ups which means they are placing orders in advance. It is a very small portion of their business, and they absolutely do not work with 1000 vendors. No company in the world would work with 1000 vendors that would create so many losses. As a matter of fact, when retail is tough vendor bases shrink. They shrink the vendor bases so that the fenders can feel more important. The ones that are left standing and they will give the client better deals. In addition, the owner of fashion nova’s family was in fabric for many many years.

Yes agree with you
There don’t steal designs the wholesalers in Asia are making them already !!!!!
