Is anyone else really listening to what he trying to say? This could just be my own interpretation but it sounds like he’s speaking of once having faith in Christ and and having his guidance and comforting spirit, but then as many of of us do, we’ll turn our backs on him even when he was there for us in our darkest moments. We all have felt his love, and yet we’re so quick to forget his compassion. I don’t know. I don’t think he is talking about some person who was close to him. But someone we all know and can sense and feel their presence
i think it might be related to that false rape allegation he got from a fan, but he has made it more generalised ...then again it could be anything...whatever it means to you is what it is..:)
with the use of words such as "the philistines", "his glory", "faith", "Fly it straight" I would say for sure, especially in light of other lyrics on the album such as The Rain Follows the Plow
