- Lairg Auction mart has legendary status here in the UK and abroad for being the venue of the biggest single day sale of sheep in Europe. This is not that sale, but it's still a big one. The great annual sale of gimmers and aged ewes, and I hope to buy some aged ewes to take home to Ayrshire. Will I succeed? Let's find out!

ABOUT ME
I’m 31 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 breeding ewes.
I shore over 15,000 sheep this season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September. (Covid messed it up this year)
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on UA-cam and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.
The drone shots really added to the sense of just how vast the sales area and pens are. Sheep were on the move everywhere. How do they keep track?
Great drone shot, WOW. Loved seeing Lizzy and Jock, he is growing. The Sheep Game known everywhere!
Love the drone shot of the sheep, it looked like large grain of rice moving about! 🇨🇦
Cammy...that was great ...we get to see Lizzy and the wee lad Jock...and the music tae as well!!...loved the drone shots...nice you getting some publicity for your channel from the auctioneer...love from Perth.
😁👶💙🐑🐏💜
Joyce’s sheep certainly shone. I get the impression you want to end up with a good cheviot flock. Setting up with older, cheaper sheep is a good way to get going. The aerial shots look like magic as it’s hard to pick out the drovers. Shouldn’t say it but they look like well trained maggots. Waiting to see how life will change when Jock grows legs.
Thanks Wendy! Wouldn’t mind a flock like Joyces!😁.
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who thought that
I thought it too, and was ashamed to admit it!
Your videos make me want to visit Scotland. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your love for everything you do, and for your family is priceless.
Thanks Janine! Living the dream here!
Thank you so much Cammy. You are so kind and I really appreciate your video of Lairg and our ewes. Laughing at my patter.😂
Haha it was great chat Joyce! If The Sheep Game keeps growing i might be fit to buy some next year 😂
5:09 The Campbell sheep look like they are just raring to go, jumping straight into our dreams! Perhaps the auction hall should have a permanent "SHH!" Sign installed on the ceiling...
Lovely drone footage; Lizzy and Jock look beautiful this fine, travel-weary day!
Thanks so much! Real fit sheep!
Cracking place. I love the fact they have grass in the holding pens.
Holy cow! They are so efficient in moving the sheep through the pens!
Need to be with that many sheep to sell 😂
@@TheSheepGame I'm sure if I tried to do that, the aerial shot would looked like a box of dropped cotton balls! Awesome footage, thanks for sharing this part of your life with us!
Love these videos! I live in Oregon in the USA. I fell in love with Soay sheep and have a small flock of RBST sheep and a small flick of American/British soay. I envy you the fact that you can actually herd your sheep. Trying to herd Soay is like herding cats in a hurricane. Over here, these sheep are valued as a non chemical way to control weeds in horse fields and to clear brush for under trees. The fact that they will charge and attack coyotes is a real plus. Keep making the great videos!
Wow. That place is huge. The drone footage is amazing. Watching the sheep moving into different areas from the drone really adds to the video. That little shepherd's hut is beautiful. Amazing country you live in so beautiful wherever you go. Nice to see Lizzy & Jock. He is a real cute little fellow. Thanks again for the videos.
Thanks Alice!
I've always wanted to go to Scotland it is so beautiful. Those were all nice looking sheep. It was nice to see you, Lizzy and Joch.
Take me home! Awesome video. Grew up just north of Lairg . My Dad was head Shepherd on an Estate. Many ,many happy childhood memories at Lairg mart.
I remember when most of these pens would be full.... a sign of the times I guess.
Best part of your video..... when you showed the stands .... saw my MUM... thank you.
Filled my heart from snowy Ontario.
Wow that’s amazing Tish! So glad u enjoyed it and even better it was so personal to u all the way in Canada!
I have only just started watching you, well I should say since the time you were on @The Hoof GP. I now cannot stop watching your channel . When I was in my teens I used to live on a farm in Wales Gwent. We had dairy cows with 2 Herefordshire Bulls, and about 30 Ewes and 1 Ram. I used to get up at 5am and milk the cows with my dad and then go and feed the rest of the animals. uniform on, breakfast eaten bus caught school. Then home change and do chores hen help milk cows again. But my best time living on a farm was lambing season. I just love watching as it brings back memories of my childhood .Your little man is so cute I wanted to take him in my arms and cuddle , such a content little boy Congratulations to you both. Happy times and memories are the best ,I am now 51 and disabled would love to still do this but cannot , so watching You Tube is a must for me. 🤩Thank you for showing your life as well as Graham's and I will keep watching love to you all
Looks to be a lovely part that's would be my favourite holiday sheep market and looking about
Amazing drone footage!!! Love seeing the Scotland countryside, just beautiful!!! Cheers to you and your family from NSW Australia 😍💓
What lovely footage! I'm so happy to see all of this footage, I appreciate all you do for us to show us your fantastic daily life.
Cammy, I have not seen so many different shaped sheep. I just thought a very few differences but no! I find myself looking all over the word and seeing how diverse sheep really are. Just amazing. Thank you Cammy for showing me. Here in central Pennsylvania sheep are not as prevalent. It is so true though that Pennsylvania does remind us of Scotland. Your pictures are amazing! Thank you so much for your vlogs and kindness to show us. Look at all the blessings your hard work has done so far. Small Jock is your most wonderful blessing of all. 😉
❤&🙏 🙋 from Pennsylvania 🇺🇸
Like everyone else I loved the drone shots, but I'd like to see a bit more of your country side as well. I live in the very sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵 desert (31/11c today) where most of the year our landscape is very brown and dry. And since I live in a big city, even the neighborhood roads are 4 lanes. Two generous lanes for driving and 2 generous lanes for parking. So seeing your lush green and your barely 2 lane roads is a real treat. So you might think filming the scenery as you drive by might be boring, but for us city dwellers, watching the green fly by the car window is just what we need to relax after a very stress filled day. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵😷
Thanks Suzi i’ll include more of that in future!
@@TheSheepGame, I'm thinking that's why the hoof gp adds drone footage to and from the farms to his videos. So we can see his lovely countryside. But it also makes the video a bit longer and tells the story that we're off to the next farm.... Or if the lighting is getting dim, that we are on our way back to the garage for the night. 💖🌞🌵😷
A nice vid of the Lairg Auction. Rare to see so many outdoor pens. With the 5 hour distance to be travelled by the new sheep via lorry, how are they prepared to make the journey as safe and comfortable as possible, Cammy? Fed and watered beforehand? Definitely want to cut down on the stress.
P.S. the wee lad and Lizzy look very healthy. May you all be blessed with a happy future!
Cammie, the sheep look like grains of rice in the drone shots - quite an interesting perspective. Congratulations on the purchasing more sheep and it was wonderful to see Jock and Lizzie! Jock is going to make quite the sheep farmer because he will literally be immersed in it since he was born.
Great drone shots. You can truly see how these auctions are handled. Thanks Cam
Aw Cammy, to end this video with the drone shots accompanied by the beautiful music……….brilliant. It is always a joy to watch “The Sheep Game”. Thank you ❤️
really impressed at how clean and well run the auctions are. its great that they allow you to video too. thanks for taking us along again.
Love the drone shots! So nice to see Jock and Lizzie too! 🥰
Thanks Alicia!
The drone shot really showed the scale of the sale.
Wow.
Loved the drone shots. Amazing to see all the different sheep units being moved simultaneously, yet ending up where they are assigned. Sandi Brock would love to help with this as she is so good at it as well. Mosh pit/crowd surfing by the Campbell sheep. Great purchases by Cammy to take home. Good, good day for a family outing.
Thank you! It was a great day out AND I got to come home with some extra sheep =D
HOLEY MOLEY, that is A LOT of sheep!!!....and they really do flow like a river!....sooo cool!
Thanks, Cammie, I really enjoyed it.
I totally love your videos.
I have a suggestion. Maybe you can invite Sandi Brock over. I am sure that she would be thrilled. I think that she would benefit from your skill of skinning and dead lamb and putting it's coat on to an orphan or multiple to get it a new mum
Little late to the comments game but just had to say how much I enjoyed this one... balance was spot on fella.... The drone work was just immense but the laughs and tunes wrapped it all up.
Cheers Matt!
😍. I wish so much we had sales like this in the USA. This was a great one Cammy! Congrats on the new sheep.
Watching the sheep move on the drone shot is mesmerizing. You could do an hour of that with the lovely music and get hits I am sure.
great video. the drone shots were mesmerising!! always interesting to see the auction process and the camaradarie amongst the sheep farmers.
That was awesome!! I could spend all day watching the pens fill and empty from the drone's eye view. Ha fun little wave from the truck driver
Super video. Really enjoyed watching all the sheep in the ring looking so clean. I love it when they just refer to you as “The Sheep Game” - that’s fame!
That drone shot is a thing of beauty
Thanks Stef!
I work at the biggest sheep auction in Alberta 🇨🇦, and it's awesome to see how sheep sales are run in other countries. Our numbers are no where near as many as this auction, but our prices are much higher. For replacement ewes like the ones you bought as well as the others shown we would have been paying $250-$400 at this time of year.
I couldn't help myself as the sheep were running past and being sorted out of the ring, I was keeping count. Once you work at an auction mart, you will never be able to see groups of sheep moving the same way again 😆
Love the story, the videography, the music of auction, the score, and especially the robust sheep well accommodated in the country of my ancestors!
Thanks Rebecca!
Thanks for taking us along on your adventure. Glad you got some new sheep for a good price, and enjoyed some away time with your sweet family 😚
I love watching the drone views. I will watch them over and over. Now I’m hungry, they look like bits of rice from so far up!
I’ll
You definitely made it worth your drive with some nice looking sheepies! 🐑
Great drone shots of the pens, too. It's pretty cool watching the sheep move that way.
Love the aerial view--massive and just totally impressive. Glad you were able to make a purchase. Thanks for filming it for us sheep fans. You are terrific!
Thanks Deb!!
Those drone shots were awesome!
Thanks Peggy! Sorry for the slow reply!
Great stuff Cammy. My favourite agriculture blog 👌🏻🐑🐏🐑🐏👏🏻
Cheers Emmett!
Jock is so handsome. Lizzy you have a beautiful smile. The drone pictures were awesome. So happy for you to add to your flock. Really good video!
Thanks Roberta!
That is true Scotland is a beautiful place and I really enjoy the many places you take us to in your videos. Fayette, Maine USA is a long distance from where you are but, if i ever got to Scotland again i would like to visit you and your sheep farm. You just never know the way life takes us but that is one thing i would enjoy doing.🙂💕👍👍👍🐑🐑🐏🐏
You doing many sheep fans a big favor for filming the famous Laig sales, many people anticipate that they will get there one day. I'm sure will try too. Thanks for your awesome video
Thanks Pip!!
I would love to the auction place. Amazing drone shots.🇺🇸🇬🇧
Another good video Cammy, you've managed to create your own unique style and show things others rarely do. Great to see Lizzie and Jock, they are both looking well.
I hope the sheep enjoy their long journey home.
I really enjoy your drone shots of the flock transfers. Its a real wonder that someone can keep track of where they all go it that huge yard.
great! very great to see Lizzy and the wee one.🦌💌❤️🐑
Beautiful Market, great Drone footage,, liked your second group more as they looked more even, Nice to see Lizzy and Jock at the sale too.....
Love Lairg! One of the most iconic sheep sales in the country! Hopefully it continues!
Catching up on older videos. Love the drone footage, absolutely mesmerizing. Educational as usual and always entertaining.
Great fun, love the scenery as well as watching the auctions.
Amazing! The drone footage made me come back to the video for seconds, but on the laptop, just wow. This is btw how our shepherds look at us, little people, lining up for things like you know what I am talking about :) Also I love the banter going on in the ring, even when I could not understand the words. Great great video, Cameron! Hugs for Jock and Lizzie.
Great drone shot. Good to see Lizzie and Jock.
Love the craic at the mart. That drone footage was insane, amazing job cammy and nice to see Lizzie and jock looking so well x
I loved watching all the sheep from the view of the drone. so pleased for the sheep you bought ...
Those N.Black Co.Cheviots are stunning! And the croon shots, and the baby! Luck with your new ladies.
Thanks!
Just stunning! So nice to see the green pens. Bet the sheep appreciate that while away from home, the stress of a sale...etc. Thanks for all the videos!
Love when you take us with you to the actions. Thank you for the prices in US dollars per sheep.
Agreed! The prices added as overlay text, in multiple currencies, was really helpful to those of us from other places. And the auctioneer giving a shout out to your UA-cam channel was a nice touch! You’d mentioned before that most of the time, the name of the farm or farmer is how flocks get identified. You were lucky to get Joyce and her Armadale flock on camera - those of us who watch This Farming Life over in the US, really remember her farm from the program! Choosing to identify yourself and the farm by your UA-cam channel, was a very good way to make connections. It reminds me of putting collars on a couple sheep in a sheepdog trial, to indicate which ones must be separated from the others in the shedding exercise. And publicity wise, wearing your own logo on clothing at the auctions, accomplishes the same thing.
What a magnificent view of the sheep pens. All those sheep moving was mind boggling. Baby Jock is growing and so sweet. You guys must be so thrilled with him. Thanks for sharing with us. ❤️
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video, and I sincerely appreciate it. I feel a lot of peace and love through your videos. Sheep are fascinating animals because I think gathering such a large population of cattle herding onto a checkerboard shape that would be challenging.
The aerial view of the stockyard was amazing. I loved all the movement of sheep in the mosaic backdrop of the yard itself. The countryside looks lovely. The inset good hair/fleece of yourself was so funny. Lizzy looks great and wee Jock is adorable!
Haha thanks Donna i was laughing at my own wee joke when i did the edit!
It was amazing to watch the drone shots of the sheep, such an amazing market thanks for sharing!
What a beautiful landscape. I can’t believe how many sheep they got into the sale ring at one time…. They just kept coming and coming and coming! 😂 Seems like you got some great prices to fill out your flock for the winter 👍🏻
Thank you for all your vids and sharing your family with us!
Stunning drone footage Cammy, I love it when you take us around Scotland, it’s gorgeous! You are such a good videographer! Nice to see the family and the beautiful little cabin you stayed in and of course, watching you sheep shop! Have a wonderful week ahead!💕🇨🇦
Loved this video! The drone shots are fantastic! It’s art!
Really enjoyable vid , great aerial shots , some craic in the sales ring , and little Jock oblivious to everything.
Drone shots were wonderful and I loved the neat little shepard's hut..very nice video, thanks.
Wow, what a visually gorgeous video today! Loved those rare black North County Cheviots! Don't ever climb in the ring Cammy, they'll auction those beautiful curls off for sure! hahaha! :D
Haha thanks Linda!
Thank you Cammy, love the video and the music. Even a bit of grazing in the pens! You take care now.
Some grand sheep you purchased for the money compared to some other lots. Grand area around Inverness and a great look at Lairg Auction, shame it is 700 miles or so from me in Exeter. Keep up the great films.
Thanks Allan! Inverness is a great place, I’d recommend the trip.
Loved the drone footage, and the whole story. Great way to start my Sunday morning. Your family is so lovely. Had to put a t shirt on one of my ewes this week to cover a wound, a pink shirt. You would get a laugh. Lots of 💛 from NZ
Lots of good-looking Cheviots! You could hardly go wrong. What a great location with the outdoor pens. Loved the drone shots!
Another great vlog. And nice that you are getting recognition for your content. Keep it up Cammy.
Absolutely fantastic! Love the drone shots!
That shepherds hut looks great :D going to have look at the link!

Absolutely gorgeous drone shot! Traveling abroad is one of my bucket list items.

Yay! a shout out for The Sheep Game in Lairg. Jock snoozing thru all the noise - what a wee ⭐ he is. Looking forward to your scanning videos to see results from rams & ewes you've bought recently. Great video as always.
Fantastic video! Loved the drone shots. Enjoyed the sale ring as well. Thanks for sharing and keep the videos coming!
Well done for the video and the buying - and for showing us little jock! Praying for you all
seeing parts of Scotland it definitely a perk of watching your Chanel.
Love this video, always interesting to watch the sales.
Wow very informative and interesting showing us the different markets 😍thanks for sharing your boy is growing ❤️
I think you are becoming quite the celebrity Cammy. Every where you go you are recognized. Love watching the auction videos. Little Jock has grown so much. He is adorable. Love to you all. I hope Lizzie is getting enough rest. The first few months with a wee one are exhausting. Blessings to your family I think you got some good sheep. Not because I know anything about them but because you said so and I know you know good sheep when you see them. 🐑🐑🐑
Thanks Teresa! It's really quite strange how many people seem to recognize me these days.!
Thanks for taking us to the auction.
Loved the video Cammy, one of the best !! So nice to see Lizzie and Jock are doing great !!!
Thanks Jim!
LOVED the drove footage amazing place thanks for sharing 🥰
Really enjoyed the video thanks for sharing your Cheviots look good value to me good luck with them 👍
Loved the drone shots!!!
I hadn’t realised it was such a drive from Ayrshire. I don’t remember my drive up to the highlands taking so long from Lancashire but it must have done. Time flies when you have beautiful scenery to look at.
Really great to see you stocking up and moving closer to your dreams. Awesome job, Cammy!
Thanks Stacey! Chasing them hard =D
Always love your video. The sheep look good. Good to see Lizzie and Jock
Really enjoying the auction videos. Thank you!
