    Great review Albert, I have one of these and love it. I have always used a Echo gas trimmer . I will never go back to gas as long as Milwaukee keeps making these. This trimmer is fantastic and tough, cuts great. I like the slow turtle speed to cut soft grass and be safe when cutting around rocks so not to throw any.

      Glad to hear you are enjoying yours! I've had mine for several months now with lots of use on it already and I can't find anything to complain about. It's just a really good machine. I still haven't let go of the gas leaf blower yet but as far as string trimmers go I can't every see a reason to go back to gas. Milwaukee totally nailed this one!

      @@albertj3421 Not sure if you’ve gotten the blower yet, but it’s SUPERB. Aside from the overall Milwaukee standards for quality, I’ve found that the variable speed function is VERY handy…

    I had an Echo and it was really good, but this Milwaukee is no joke! Easier to use and gets the job done! I tried the Ego, but didn't care for it at all, from the cushioned grip, and the way it ramps up when it senses resistance. Made it hard for me to edge with, when the Milwaukee is great at using as an edger. Great video and agree with the handle, feels great.

      I agree. I have not used any of the Ego line but i have handled both the Ego and the new Stihl battery powered tools in the store and something about the ergonomics on both felt really off to me.
      What brand sting are you using in yours? The M18 edges great but I feel like the Milwaukee brand string it came with is getting chewed up really quick edging?

      Albert J3 I'm using some left over .095 echo line, but I'm going through that almost as quickly. Really miss a edge type guard I had on a cheap homelite weed eater I had 15+ years ago.

      I was nervous ordering it that all it would be able to handle was easy trimming around the house. After having it for a week and cutting pretty thick brush around the farm I am pleasantly surprised, for what I do I see no need to pull the gas trimmers out anymore.

    When the line gets too short, how do you make it longer? Is it suppose to feed it out gradually? Do you have to manually pull it out when it gets too short?

      DID YOU REALLY!?! I am shocked. Being in construction I know a lot of guys with red tools and no one I know has ever gotten one. I just figured it was a way to get contact info out of us. Anyway I'm glad you got one, maybe we are all just really unlucky here in Virginia.

    I'm stuck between buying this or a gas trimmer, I have about an hours worth of trimming do you think the Milwaukee is a better purchase over a gas trimmer

    • @albertj3421
      @albertj3421  7 років тому

      Hey Ryan, I can say honestly after using this trimmer several times a week for about a month now I see no reason to ever buy a gas trimmer again. The M18 is just as robust and easily equal in power with the Stihl gas trimmers I've been using. I love not having to worry about mixed gas and engine maintenance just pop on a battery and go. I think the deciding factor for most people is whether or not you own other Milwaukee tools. If you like me own other Milwaukee M18 tools and have extra batteries to feed the trimmer then its a no brainer to buy the M18 trimmer. IF however you don't have any extra batteries to keep the trimmer going on long days of use gas may be a better choice rather than investing in a bunch of expensive batteries you can't use for anything else. Last night I trimmed my whole yard and ran the hedge trimmer over a half dozen bushes and did it all on one battery. Hope this helps and let me know what you decide. - Albert

      I just bought a gas trimmer...ECHO to be exact and of course its powerful. I have nearly the whole line of m18 FUEL tools and I love every last one of them, especially the 1/2 impact wrench. Anyway, really the only difference between the m18 and a gas trimmer is you can get gas for it ANYWHERE...if you have 1 battery and it dies, youre pretty much SOL

      Albert J3 Its not even close to being as powerful as a gas trimmer maybe cheap one but you put a stihl,husvarna or a echo and they will blow the doors off this weed wacker it only goes 5800 rpm compared to over 10000 rpm for any of those gas ones I mentioned the Dewalt weed wackers are more powerful then milwaukee its cheaply made

      Big Daddy, all opinions including mine are purely subjective. Don’t be fooled by a manufacturers stated maximum RPM. That high number is an ideal engine number without load. Think of it this way. Your car engine can produce X torque at the wheels but if you put larger tires on the same engine that value X will decrease because of the increased load of the larger tire. No manufacture I have found is producing anything 10,000 RPM to the ground.
      Husqvarna bills their 525LST as the most populare pro trimmer ($339.95). Its stated max RPM is 6,000 BUT the max RPM at shaft is 5,500.
      * www.husqvarna.com/us/products/trimmers/525lst/967175501/
      The Stihl dealer in my town where I’ve bought a lot of OPE from says the FS 91 ($359.95) is his most popular model amongst local lawn companies. Stihl’s published numbers are a Max Rated Cut Off Speed 9,500 RPM, but again that’s not real world. The real world RPM as stated by Stihl is Max Ouput Shaft Speed 7,150.

      Is the M18 the most powerful trimmer in the world? No. I never said it was but is it more than capable of doing all my residential yard work? Yes. And can it hang with any gas trimmer in the $299 price range? In my opinion yes. Actually I only paid $150 for mine so at that price to performance curve it blows everything else away.
      I have not used the Dewalt. My company uses the M18 platform for all our cordless tools so the M18 makes sense for me. So far mine has been as rugged as I need it to be and works perfectly so I personally have not observed the “cheapness” you mentioned. Did yours break?
      Even though I haven’t used the Dewalt if I had to wager I would speculate that the M18 is definitely better than the Dewalt because red is such a pretty color.
      Have a good day - Albert

      Albert J3 yeah but milwaukee is 5800 rpm no load so that will drop down too

    Get yourself the Dewalt 20v or 60v flexvolt the 20v is just as powerful and virtually no vibration the 60v is more powerful and weighs about the same but better balanced
