UK Living 1996 idents

Here's some idents for the satellite TV channel UK Living's, which were introduced for 1996.
These were extra new ones for the existing package and filmed in Studio 2 of Teddington Studios in the summer of 1996. There were several versions of each filmed item - with different colours backgrounds and durations. Not all were used..... as you can see from one of the VT clocks one didn't work very well!

Nice clear analogue stereo sound quality. On Astra UK Living compressed the stereo sound using the Wegener PANDA 1 noise reduction system prior to transmission, and upon reception, the noise reduction circuitry would expand the compressed audio to restore dynamic range without the noise and hiss. Top brand receivers with Wegener PANDA 1 noise reduction circuitry fitted gave the best sound over the Astra channels. Cheaper receivers equipped with cheaper non-Wegener soundalike noise reduction circuit like Amstrad's dynamic noise reduction (DNR) still sounded quite hissy.

By 1996, Roger Luard's Flextech gained full control of UK Living.

The 'Gonks' ident variation of UK Living was pants, those aren't the original dolls with fluffy hair, Roger Luard demanded one of the props crew to buy some cheap knock-offs from a market at Camden Lock and bring them over to Studio 2 at Teddington on a turntable.

Got some candles from M&S and a turntable from HMV, job's a good 'un
Not quite as creative as the later Living idents. The one with the candle with dripping wax just doesn't look good

You jest but that's kind of what they did - got a lot of items and some turntables in a studio (studio 2 at Teddington) and just filmed them in various ways.
The gonks are a particular low point, IIRC the original set were a lot better, these seem to be some in-house cheap additions

@@LuthansaTerminal there were some later ones when it was renamed just "Living" (before it was "Living TV" and then "Living" again...) that were good, if you look up the start up video from 1998 there's one with a toaster
