The port finished rye from Milam & Greene is so good, I drove down from Dallas to their distillery to pick up a bunch of it. Well, and to drive the canyon roads with the windows down. Always a good decision.
I found this very surprising with the complexities of the flavors. I feel that I liked this much more than your reviews led me to feel you did. Kudos to M&G!
Ooh! Daniel! That thing you’re describing about the way this presents like a Scotch! I think I have a word for it that I’ve used to describe the way a palate develops, and you might like it because it’s from my music/sound background. I like to call it the “envelope” of the palate. As in how it travels over time when you experience it. Same as a sound envelope. Feel free to steal it. 😁
Elijah Craig Small Batch was like that for me, loved it up until the last 6oz where all I tasted was baking spice and barrel. Turned me right off, however Ardbeg was the opposite, was not into it at all at first and loved it by about half way into the bottle.
I've been wondering what the best whiskeys available in mini bottles are, & if there is anyone online maybe that has a good selection? I enjoyed trying new whiskeys at a few locals bars, but that hasn't really been an option lately. It was the main way I had to explore & to get an idea if it was one I wanted to purchase a bottle of later.
Whiskey has been my liquor of choice since day one. The problem is that until about 8 months ago, I enjoyed it exclusively with coke. After finding your channel I started to drink it neat but even after all this time I can only detect the most basic of flavors; ie cherry in bourbon and whatnot. I still drink a lot of pop and I was wondering if that could be affecting my tastes. If I stopped drinking so much pop would it be possible for me to read more into the whiskey? Or are my taste buds just fried from drinking too much pop all my life.
I have a related question to the guy that said he's a rum drinker getting into whiskey. Same here and i've been trying really hard to explore whiskey since i found this channel but it's been a struggle to find a flavor profile i like, and committing to buying a bottle of whiskey i might not like has been a barrier so maybe you can give me a recommendation based on the rum i like the most? My favorite rum of all time is Pampero Anniversario and is easily found in most places (small rum bottle in a leather bag). Is there a whiskey that approximates that experience? I love that rum neat and so far i havent had that moment with the whiskeys i've tried so i've been using the ones i haven't liked in cocktails instead.
@@zewhiskeymeizzer9467 I tried an Irish Whiskey finished in rum cask and hated it but it was just the one, i need to try some more after i'm done with this bottle. I'm pretty picky when it comes to rum, which is why i asked if there's a whiskey that's already close to the rum i like :)
Thanks for reading out my comment guys. Thanks to help from the tribe over the past couple weeks I've been trying lots of 'beginner' whiskey until I found out.... I belong to the cult. I've completely fallen for islay, for ardbeg! Cheers you magnificent bastards!
Jack Daniel's used to be my go-to whiskey or drink back in the days but i recently bought a bottle and tasted it, and i was horrified by the taste of it! and i asked my self how could i have liked/loved it back when i was young!
I bought a bottle today on the recommendation of the local store owner. I am trying to like it but, it has a taste I am not used to. Probably wouldn't purchase again.
Pretty sure that they have at least SOME Dickel in it.... as when I was down in Blanco and did their tastings I immediately detected some Flintstone vitamin hints - which I typically notice in Dickel's products. I MUCH preferred their Distillery Edition.
@@davidjollis1502 I knew someone would say that...but I was curious, as I like watching their channel and I love rum. And there is no one out there doing the same for Rum.
I drinked bourbon with coke all my life until I tasted scotch neat. After that moment, now I drink all my whisky neat. I suggest you try Glenlivet founder reserve neat, that is a very fruity and friendly whisky, you will not sense the ethanol.
This was their worst expression last year, is this a 2020 bottling? The best stuff they had in 2019 were Ben Milam label specifically the Ben Milam Barrel Proof.
Ist funny how long it takes Daniel and Rex to spot that the Lagavulin has been changed for Laphroaig. Also Emma is right. Laphroaig is the more quintessential Isla. #emmaisright #teamemma
Well, I don't know how are things moneywise in the industry, but since you are almost contineously whining about how much does the barrel impact a whisky, why don't u get something like solera casks, or invent whole other totally oversized immoral utrouchious monstrosity (as is everything in the 'murica) and call it a Texas Cask, or something like that (you know, like 100 000l barrel or something... Just an idea...)
Blending American whiskey is exciting. Scotch has been doing it for decades to bring new flavor profiles
Rex, that was well said there at the end of the video. Well done.

Killer whiskies, the Milam Greene tasting room is a definite “must visit” if you’re in the neighborhood.
They finally noticed the Laphroaig
Morning MB's
good morning you MB's
mmmm.... Bourbon
great way to start the day...
This is a quality bottle, in my regular rotation.
Did we hear correctly? Did Emma just win? Laphroaig is the quintessential Islay!
That and the Red Breast was borrowed.
Speaking of red breast it’s good mixed with Dr. Pepper. It’s like a caramel mocha latte .
@@groton27 ill try that
As it should be!

who are the big distilleries in Tenn that people source from? I know people get DIckel but who are teh others?
Could you consider, restocking the shelves to Daniel's right and making that a bourbon forward zone for a few weeks?
Didn't they do another Milam & Green bottle review before?

Try something that’s finished in rum casks as a middle ground to ease your way into the whiskey flavors.

Have you posted a list of the quintessential whiskies? You could print up a laminated card to use to check the wall.
Yeah I too have been wondering whether they have named all of them before. And if so then where

Is this the same distillery that was doing the artificial climate aging, to mirror Scotland and Kentucky?
I believe that is Treaty Oak.
Good Morning Gentlemen.
In my house we call that a Santa belly.
You guys need to try and get your hands on smokehead. It’s a single malt islay
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 good video🥃
At this point, finish the lagavulin, save the empty bottle, and glue it into place.

Interesting? I don't remember the guys ever checking out Old Forester Rye. I found that different from most other whiskeys I've had.
I think they did on one of the recent Friday episodes

White Owl was excellent my first taste the next time I tried it I despised it.. very odd!
How can they call it bourbon if there’s Texas whiskey in it?
not to flex but i just ordered laphroig quartercask for 30€ on amazon if your in germany thats about the only good prime day deal
It can't be the redbreast, there already is an Irish up there. It must be something else that's missing.
