The boards on the floor were removed as they emptied the crib. The trench is for a drag line. Years ago when they sold their corn, they shelled it out of the crib. They placed and assembled the sections of drag line under the crib which fed into the sheller. Some of the big shellers were available either powered by a tractor or mounted on a truck. They were capable of shelling 1000 plus bushels an hour but it took lots of help.
