I absolutely adore this hymn. I learnt it at my school and it has helped me through some dark times. May God continue to bless this hymn so that it can comfort many & lead people to Christ.
I love this hymn. I sang it in a state competition and won 1st place. When I first learned of the hymn and read the words I began to cry only later to understand it's meaning and the writer's reasoning for penning this hymn. Lead Kindly Light will always be dear to my heart.

Reconnecting to this sacred hymn we sang as a child is infinite Blessings. Yes, lead thou me on! :))) Yes, He/She is Consciousness leading every thought! In sacredness of blessings of each, the We singing together! :))))) Peace triumphs through these trying times. Our cry of prayers, heart song of One- thank you for the story of the Being behind and within the song.
Thank you so much for taking time to watch and comment! I love the stories behind old hymns...they are definitely and truly "inspired"...and meant to inspire those who hear and sing them as well.
Thank YOU Reji for taking time to watch my little video and sending me a message. What a wonderful blessing you stated my friend...indeed...may God bless us all. :)
Thank you Carla for this wonderful and inspiring story of the hymn "Lead, Kindly Light" Before writing further, I wish you a blessed and joyful feast of Cardinal John Henry Newman whose feast it is today. 9th October. I have always dearly loved this man who is now a saint-his brilliant mind and his long and enduring search for the Truth. How I love his hymn which as you said is quite famous throughout the world. God bless you and a blessing too from St. John Henry.
Thank you for sharing this..I too enjoy old hymns as well as new ones but I really enjoyed hearing how this one came about..What a wonderful man to share his feelings so that they may be shared for generations!!
Many thanks for telling the story behind the hymn 'Lead kindly light'. This hymn has been my favourite hymn since my young life while I was at school where we we first sung. The words and the phrases used captured my heart that I learnt the whole song by heart and the memory of those days are still with me.
Awwww...thank you so much for sharing your memories of this precious hymn. I'm 66...and I can still recall most of the words to the hymns of my childhood too! I appreciate you watching...and taking time to leave your kind comment. Hoping that you and yours take care and stay safe. Carla
@@carlacarmichael2978 I highly apreciate your response dear Clara.I am now 86 years old and Istill love the words and phrases .Having done some difficult poems in English Literature as part of the subects makes me apriciate the songs more grasp to spiritual context. Think of the poems like "the Hound of Heaven or "the Grammarian's Funerial and some others . May God bless you.
@@gurmanshergill5363 Oh...may God bless you too my friend. Yes...I have heard "The Hound of Heaven" before. I'm so glad that you still enjoy the old hymns and poems as I do also! When I was 11 years old, my Dad bought me a second-hand piano...and a 25 cent "Army/Navy hymnal" from Salvation Army. Hymns were the first things I learned to play (Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus being the first one I mastered!) and they are still my favorite songs to play these many years later. I still love to sing the verses along as I play...though my voice is not as strong as in times past...but the Bible says "make a joyful noise unto the Lord"...so my feeble efforts still count, right? So nice hearing again from you...and I hope your Christmas season is a special and joyous one for you. Carla

"One step enough for me..." I graduated at theology from Newman. I am so happy about his canonisation due on october 13.th. I pray for his intercession daily.
Mahatma Gandhi had this song translated in gujarati ,his native language..we used sing this song "પ્રેમળ જ્યોતિ તારો દાખવી મુજ જીવન પંથ ઉજાળ" at school in morning prayer before class began
I wonder how these hymes would sound in today's language. If it would change the meaning or make sound more relatable. I find it hard for me comprehend when things are written in language not used today. I gotta a bible app so wonder if I can find this in it. Thank u for this sis.
When I read older hymns, I remind myself that they were written as poems or verse first...then later music was added to turn them into songs. And yes, your're so right, the older useages of language can throw us all a bit. But I learned in school to read each poem...not in a "rhyming" way...but as sentences between the punctuation marks...and breaking it down that way really does make understanding it easier. Also where the words are "contracted"...like "th'encircling gloom"...I actually fill the phrase out to "the encircling gloom" when I read it. I learned that little technique for reading some of the more difficult parts of Scripture...and things like Shakespeare and other ancient writers. I actually prefer to read poetry rather than straight literature. The sing/song nature of how it is written appeals to the music-side of me! I hope this helps Hon.
One of my favourite songs
Really loved every word of this song

What a coincidence! As soon as you mentioned that this book was written in 1951, the clock on my phone too was 1951. Weird but fascinating
Weird but mine was 8:51 which is 20:51pm 😱
One step is enough for me
Amen to that...I feel that way too. :)

A small correction: JHN was originally in the Church of England which has a rich Catholic tradition. She is NOT a protestant church.
The Church of England was not Protestant, it was Anglican under the control of a Monarch who disobeyed the Pope
This Hymn was , a surprise to me that he became a Catholic. no disrespect, the first verse was always sung at the start of our Masonic Meetings.
Discerning Appaeitions
Thank you.
