You have to have the money for land to buy tractor to buy tiller for tractor to buy bush hog for said tractor. Seeds for garden compost for garden. Money to drill for a well. Do yall have any idea how much it cost to drill for water? You don’t then check onit. To build a fence tall enough to keep deer and wild hogs out of garden. If u don’t have the fence where we live the deer and wild hogs and turkeys will dig it right up. I could go on and on. Think about it. Be kind to your people we are all doing our best. Pray, pray and then pray again.

We live in a condo and are on Social Security. My husband and I are doing the best we can and we thank God every day for what he has blessed us with. Thank you Patara for sticking up for us. My dad was in the army post ww2 in Germany. He said if you’re hungry enough you’ll eat anything. I listed off some really disgusting things. He looked at me with a look in his eyes I’d never seen and said “you’ll eat anything”. He never told me details of what he saw in Germany, but we were never allowed to waste food. Ever.

I have been gardening for 30+ years. My garden hasn't been as productive this season compared to pass seasons. My 3 fruit orchards and nuts trees have not fruited like before! What little i have harvested I give away to the elderlies. I give thanks to the Creator.

Patera, my father was second youngest of 13 children in 1928 in Sturgis S Dakota. His father homesteaded land there. He was given the land on all the land he planted trees on and worked. His older brothers and sisters told us during the great depression that the older brothers and sisters and mother are supper every other day when things got hard. That they would go out and forage dandelion greens for them to cook and eat. Most of the family moved to the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Daddy joined the Air Force and was stationed at MacDill AFB in Tampa FL, where he met my Florida native mother! Thank God I grew up Southern! I just wanted to let you know, I especially love hearing about your Nana, as my mother, my kid's Nana, passed in 2015, at 85 years old. I miss her so much. I love to listen to you. While I work. I had 40 acres, sold 35 when my husband became disabled. We gave our middle son 1.5 acres of the road front property, and I have 3 granddaughters in hollering distance. He is an RN and works in PICU at the Children's hospital in our area. His wife is a nurse. They homeschool their girls, and have a years supply of food and I have a 275gallon capacity of water in a food grade tote, as well as a propane fueled outdoor kitchen. We are not in a neighborhood, so we can rig an outdoor shower, or heat water and take a bath it a kiddie pool. So I thank God everyday for close by family, and I listen to you and have plenty of food canned and store bought. I was a county EMS worker and at 50 I took a job at the Children's hospital too as a nurse technician. I have a wonderful knowledge of emergency medical routines, and have all accoutrements for laundry. A 2year supply of detergents bleach, a rub board and the kiddy pool with an agitator. I have been looking for an old mop wringer. I have talked too much too, and I have to stop.

I agree, ration food now and get your body used to it. I have a ranch with animals, grow a garden, and work off the ranch 35 hours a week. I'm seriously busy ALL the time. I have a very small lunch - usually crackers and cheese or a half tuna sammich, drink tons of water, and eat a full dinner. I've lost 100 lbs, off all meds, am healthier than I've ever been, and while I work a lot, I'm also happier than I've ever been.
Good job Patera! Thanks for not allowing food-shsming...people are doing the very best they can, and shame will not help them at this point.

Patara, you are such a blessing! You have helped me stay focused during a very difficult year. I was a homeschooling mom to my 4 children, now in their twenties. In 2017, I was blindsided by a stroke at the age of 55. I was totally paralyzed on my left side, they have no idea why I had a stroke. I have worked my tush off to recover to about 80%. All was going well and then a year ago today I found my husband face down on the floor in our home totally paralyzed. He passed away on 9/22/23. We prepped and worked together and I was lost. I’m so thankful I had a well stocked pantry to carry us through. You have helped me so much! You keep doing you, God is using you during this time! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! If I can do it, anybody can!

Ten years ago, before I retired from the army, I told my family, when I retire, I will be buying an acreage with plenty of trees, its own fresh water well and enough open space to potentially grow enough food to last us through a winter or more. There will be times ahead we will need to be as self-reliant as we are able to be. Some told me, "You just want to be and old dooms day grump and live back in the trees somewhere." I received a TBI about two years before I retired, I was retained on active-duty status for 18 months until cleared to retire. I bought a 3.5 acreage that suited me. There is a well, which is the most important asset on it. Having a water source is literally lifesaving. I built a greenhouse for growing herbs and a generator shed so I do not have to battle the windy rainy weather or knee-deep snow trying to start and manage the generator. I have started building raised beds and need to build another twenty if I truly want to maximize a decent harvest. It takes far more than one would think in hoping to grow enough for a year supply. Next year I will build a chicken coop. I have multiple hands-on skill and have done a lot of farm work like milking 84 cows twice a day helping my grandfather with butchering cattle, hogs and chickens. He was a licensed butcher with his shop on the farm. I was a medic for over 30 years and attended the LPN school. I truly believe we are standing at the edge of a massive depression that will pale the 1930's. There are 20 times more people. About 80% now live in cities and towns compared to the rural percentage of the early 1900's. They do not have the resources to grow much of anything. There will always be the 'nay sayers' that's fine until the grocery store deliveries slow or even stop. The masses will riot and ransack the stores. I live about 4 hours' drive away from any larger city. If you want information for the best places to live, read Joel Skousen's book Strategic Relocation. What is being said here is a wakeup call. A good slap of reality for all.

We all got sick under the weather and I had bagged noodles, can chicken and some cans of chicken noodle soup. I made a blend to mix it all together as a quick soup. My chicken was frozen and we needed a soup fast. I'm not ashamed to say we ate that. 3 days now I'm feeling better. I can't have a farm where I live. At this point, anything people can do to get something in your pantry, is imperative to prevent starvation for their family. Like you said, it does not matter of the quality of the food....just get it. Something is better than nothing. Just remember, when you go to the store, "One is none and 2 is one", get what you can while you can still get it. Praying for everyone, I am so sad for those who have no idea of what's going on. Please God, have mercy on them.

It does shrink your stomach and if you ever over eat, you will definitely feel it! 🤢 It helps your food supply and it helps you in the end. You eat to live, not live to eat. That is the motto that we should take truth in.

I'm so sorry you feel like you "blew a gasket", been there myself. I had a farm 30+ years with many animals so I get it. It's a full time commitment and I loved every bit of it. I made some mistakes with some of my critters, a leaning curve, and that was hard. I have never cared what anyone thought of me, ever. Even as a kid, got teased how I dressed, never cared. As long as I am not harming anyone, who cares? I have told my son since he was little that our purpose in life is to help others thru it; that's it. And you my dear are doing an exceptional job at that! So you keep doing what you do Patara, hold your head high, keep on keeping on and the heck with everything/everyone else. It's been a tough few years and I personally am sick to death of humans. I feel bad saying it, but that's where I'm at. Everyone can just leave me alone with my critters in the woods and I will be very very happy. I for one appreciate your candid straight forward take on things, you got this! Love you to the moon and back!

We posted on Facebook to give them away. An very elderly man jumped on our post and literally begged for any birds we could give. He was scouring for free birds for food. Said his daddy told him “have a chicken, potatoes and onions and youll never starve” the man could hardly walk but drove to us to get them. Talk about resourceful and smart! We kept his number for future donations! Just needed to share, do whatever you can to secure your food sources. Be smart, be resourceful!

The rest was purchased. Canning sweet corn was a truck bed of corn that needing peeling. Kichen work the whole day. Most people don't know how to do this anymore. People will be suprised at what they can grow inside their apartments, townhouses, condos or outside on balconies. If they have H.A they only need to keep their business quiet. Got two bathrooms? One can be converted, with a grow light to a grow room.
