- A discussion of the custom base I designed for the LEGO Koi Fish in order to give it a realistic swimming motion. The Koi Fish is from the Creator 3-in-1 set 31129 Majestic Tiger.

This is much better than those experimental sets 2 years ago with the paper coverings of koi and shark, that's for sure

I think due to the sections this model had on the fish
The Koi Fish has more segments in its body
@@quantum.code.x The shark not having the tail segment controlled also really made it much less realistic.
up and down movement (piston-like) will always entail little _sticks and slips_ which hinder smoothness. these are more easily avoided for back and forth movement in a horizontal plane

I just bought this set to build the koi fish. I collect Pirates and sea creatures in Lego. I was just looking for a video to see the size of this orange boy and found this! I honestly wonder how cool it would be to put this in a like glass case with something like deionised water or mineral oil both of which are harmless to electronics to really emphasise the swimming.

Unfortunately, my kid will only want to make the Tiger, because it is the first build with a specific a lego piece for the anus.
I guess I will need 2 sets.

I Know nothing about Powered Up motors and stuff. What will I need to buy to make this and the shark swim motorized? I want to flip one switch and both of them start swimming? Do I need 2 motors and some kind of hub? Lego kit numbers would be great and thx for the Instructions. I ordered all my parts for the koi last week and I have already build the shark platform :) Can't wait to see more of your projects!

You should try making your own custom fish! Not an official lego set. You already have the movement down all you need to do is make your own lego fish

I don't really know, I bought them from LEGO's Bricks and Pieces service. I probably picked some up from bricklink as well.
