Years ago I watched the film and knew that I had experienced probably the most important, the finest film ever made. I still feel the same. Though it has been several decades, I imagine, since I saw it there are numerous scenes that became a part of me, such as "the barn scene," never to be forgotten. Any who read these words and have not had the experience I highly recommend that you do. A true work of cinematic art that is unblemished by even a hint of commercialism. Bravo, bravo to all who worked on its creation. Any who think this viewer is being hyperbolic, well, withhold your judgment for after viewing "Come and See."
"No one will see this film." "All right. But we have to make this film all the same." This film needed to be made. And I'm so grateful it was in the hands of a film maker who understood the emotional depth of what happened. More than an artistic masterpiece, it is testament to sadism and inhumanity.
"Say, in America people can hardly watch this film. Of course, there are those who do watch. I think their problem is that they say: "We have thrillers, but here it's something different. It's real life" is one of my favorite quotes

Thank you for this film Elem Klimov and congratulations. The cinema story telling reminds me of the scene in Kurasawa's RED BEARD of the young apprentice doctor's face as he watches the off screen care given by the lead doctor to someone who had been run over by a wagon wheel. There was no blood, no gore shown, yet I almost passed out from the images my mind created. The story of COME AND SEE is so horrible that adding graphic images would only take away the impact and make the film unwatchable. Yet, we must all come away with forgiveness and new love for our fellow humans. RESPECT THAT WHICH CREATED EVERYTHING AND BE KIND TO ALL THINGS THUS CREATED.

My grand parents were Holocaust survivors from Eastern Europe and this film took me on a trip that was so personal, horrifying and enlightening. It outdoes any other film I have seen and is so remarkable I have shown it to many people. It’s too bad many people can’t handle the reality it shows.
@@handle_my_handle That can be debated. Why it may not primarily have to do with genocide, and it's true that's not what the story is about, it most certainly has the extermination of undesirables and that type of behavior in the plot. But yes, I would agree it is not "about" the holocaust. (*I could've written that better, I suppose, and in less haste). But I still believe it is the best War film ever made.

Every war movie needs to be impactful like what Klimov had done period.
He died in 2003, if I'm not mistaken. It's better to make a film like that and stop filming at all than to make dozens of worthless junk.
