I’d never seen The Defenders before watching several episodes recently on UA-cam. It seems almost like British television in the way it relies on good writing and acting to explore human issues. As the 1960s progressed, we had less and less of this kind of quality television in the US. It’s kind of refreshing to see this kind of idealism in our entertainment history, since it’s hardly what we’re known for in our TV drama.

What a quality show The Defenders was. TV programming was loaded in those days with great morality plays. When the good we're good, and the bad were bad.
Decent plot. Of course Shatner later did Boston Legal. He was a smart man. He really had to hustle to make a living and all those experiences come into play during life.
He was always evolving! I never known him not to be working and he had such longevity in Hollywood because he went from James T Kirk,TJ Hooker , Rescue911 host, and Denny Crane among other shows such as Columbo, Big Valley and Mission Impossible!
The Defenders was deemed by CBS as too left wing. In 1965 it was scheduled to a later time and was shortly canned by CBS.
18:15 it took awhile to place the voice. Frank Overton, Exec of the 918th on 12 O'clock High TV series.
Five years later Terranova gets his revenge by shutting down Bryan's agricultural colony.

OMG, I knew he looked familiar!
OH yes that's what it was! I couldn't for the life of me remember what episode that fellow (Frank Overton) was in! Thank you! I always loved it when Spock and McCoy showed their real characters (as it were).

I watched The Defenders as a little kid. This brought back great memories. And I didn’t know that Captain James Tiberius Kirk was in this episode. Also, E. G. Marshal was wonderful as in all that he did.
Leonard Nimoy was talking to William Shatner about how hard it was to get parts when he was starting out then he said to William 'I bet you didn't find it hard' where upon he said 'Erm no' with a beautiful face like his there's no wonder.
What a quality show The Defenders was. TV programming was loaded in those days with great morality plays. Some like this were set in the courtroom, others like Bonanza and The Virginian set in the West, still others like the Twilight Zone set in a place of imagination. How many prime time programs do this today? Sadly
