  • President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump offered farewell remarks at Joint Base Andrews on the morning of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration. The outgoing president touted aspects of his legacy, including a long period of economic growth, the record speed of development for the coronavirus vaccines, and the creation of the Space Force, among others. Despite casting doubt on the legitimacy of the election for months and refusing to concede to his successor, Trump wished the “new Administration” well and predicted they would have “great success,” without mentioning Biden or Vice President-elect Kamala Harris by name.
The Trumps will travel to Florida and will not attend Biden's inauguration. Trump’s refusal marks only the fourth time in history an outgoing U.S. president has not attended the next leader’s swearing-in ceremony.
