- Yvette Cooper has announced a "rapid review of extremism" following the violent disorder in towns and cities throughout the UK earlier this summer.
Announcing the review, the home secretary also accused the rioters, who took to the streets after the fatal stabbings of three young girls in Southport, of "hijacking grief".

She should have pointed out that MPs found to be guilty will not be able to hide behind their office.
Given that they can define disorder and extreme as anything annoying or disruptive, how do we make sure they don't now apply harsher measures to peaceful protesters that are not "far" anything (perhaps just disagree with government or big business)?
The Tories were the ones trying to make peaceful protesters into criminals. I don’t see that from Labour. Saying they (technically) can is not the same as them actually doing it. Sorry but you are posting the sort of baseless fearmongering that lead to the riots in the first place. Be careful what sort of unfounded ideas you might be putting into people’s heads.
@@M_Bamboozled I share that fear to a degree however there is a world of difference between rioting, trying to burn buildings when occupied with people and assaulting anyone that’s not white compared to the tens of thousands of people who march to stop the genocide in Gaza on the whole peacefully.
No doubt the right wing will use the same argument you have expressed in your comment and if they had protested peacefully they might have a point. Unfortunately the right wing never have or never will get their message across in a civilised manner as the law allows.
There needs to be far greater regulation of press and media, and conditions and limitations put on ownership.
People on social media need to use their name and not be allowed anonymity. The algorithms mediating social media need regulating and made transparent.
Howling bit of kit, you. Regulating speech is akin to eastern Germany in the days of the stasi.
Dangerous witch.
Move to China or North Korea mate, all the censorship you could want right there. I wonder if her next speech will be condemning the “actual murders” at the Carnival?
Ofcom doing nothing about GB News, allowing them to get away with peddling conspiracy theories and employing current MPs which goes against the rules is extremely problematic.
I don't like this reactionary law making.😢
Aww what a shame
The reactionaries are on the opposite bench mate
@RyanJ_ thanks mate it's nice to know people care 👍
Lots of talk about dealing with the result, very little on the cause.
Misinformation and lies spread on social media is the cause.
Explain what the cause was 🤷♂️
@@MrRodigan I can think of several but a communication act safe one to debate would be the historic lack proper education on misinformation, critical thinking and the use of social media (its been discussed being part of curriculum multiple times over decades, but I've not seen any actual action on it).
@@randgate The cause was thick racists who held every non white collectively responsible for the crime of one non white.
@@randgate I agree and hopefully labour will introduce critical thinking as part of the school curriculum as they said they would, and social media has a lot to answer for with the spread of misinformation on their platforms as well.
If you dont address the underlying social problems it will happen again.
How many of the 5 Reform MP’s where present to hear this statement I wonder
Not many of the awful tories either Many fled the party like rats leaving a sinking ship To few sat across to hear YC say so many home truths
They was all in there all 5 of them 😂😂 so whats your point
The point being that Reform activists and candidates were accused of racist and homophobic statements before and during the election. Many were then removed but Reform constant barrage about immigrants rather suggests they could have some responsibility for what happened in Southport along with the bile from that horrible person Mr Yaxley-Lennon. Mr.Farage referenced Tate, for Heavens sake, as a source for his passing on the wrong name of the suspect in the attrocious Southport murders. You might have wondered if shame may have kept them away from Parliament on this day.
Doesn’t that all sound marvellous! I hope the same vigor is applied to listening to the concerns of the general public about the increase in illegal immigration and the management of the same.
@Liamgane2 The point is that some might consider Reform complicit given various comments they've made, and any shame they should feel would result in them either not showing their faces - or if they did, then to apologise
@@johnsevern739 please watch Jordan Peterson and Douglas Murray. Or read one of their books. The problem is world wide not just here in Britain.
A lot of this behaviour is a direct result of the work antagonising by mp's to better their careers shame on you
By Conservative and Reform MPs.
Nothing excuses violent behaviour. You trying to blame MPs is woeful. Whatever illicit behaviour of some MPs exists is no excuse to go out and throw bricks at the police or to seek to burn down mosques and hotels. Misinformation and lies and platforms like GB News peddling conspiracy theories and drip feeding lies about asylum seekers is to blame.
@@joetrent4753 I think that famous MP Mr Farage may be the one people have in mind when blaming MPs? Didn't he, using Andrew Tate of all people as a source, repeat the incorrect name of the Southport suspect and in his usual manner 'demand' people knew the truth and undermine confidence in the police by so doing? But I absolutely agree with you about it being Jo excuse whatsoever for violence.
Anyone know if the far Left wimg councillor who was shouting cut their throats has been prosecuted and is in jail.
What about the riot in Leeds, where the "Police" ran away?
What about all the people who have stoked the violence for years? The media which fuelled it? The MPs who incited it? The social media used to organise it? The groups that endorsed it? When will they be held to account? What is the plan to tackle the causes of this, not just the symptom?
This is like putting fire hydrants in tower blocks like Grenfell instead of tackling the causes.
This was inequality, that has caused frustration and that frustration was turned into racial hate to divide our country.
We need rehabilitation programs for the people locked up. These are sometimes teenagers who have made stupid decisions because their government failed to stop them being groomed into racism and thuggery and didn’t help support them with better options.
This is a failure of our state.
Austerity makes racists and rioters. Drop neoliberalism or witness more chaos. Thatchers Britain is grim . Labour need to look at their name, and realise what that means. Calling out the poor won't work, 🌎💚🌍time is moving on. Act to stop oil.
Austerity doesn't make racists or rioters. Unless you're implying the Unions are behind the rioters. There is no alternative to market based capitalism to create growth, Socialism failed, the civil service are overpaid as are the utilities. Add in the pensions mess and the Civil Service and their never ending greed are the issue.
The only person near me arrested as part of this, was about 10 miles from me. He is charged with posting inflammatory social media posts encouraging racist violence over a period of three weeks. He lives in a very expensive area of detached houses on a street with 4x4’s on the drives. The lakeside town is too expensive for me but clearly the ‘austerity’ caused his racism.

Define "Far Right"!
You cannot make laws on a subject without a legal definition!
Whenever the left have to define their recently theorised terms, they lose the ability to apply the term subjectively and subjectively, thus they never will.
It's one of their favourite methods of persecuting their political opposition.
Far right = people who hold the entire BAME community collectively responsible for the crimes of individuals from within aforesaid community.
Why, can you not?
Google is free.
@@colincampbell4261... Because without legal definition the laws are meaningless.
They are going through this process with the islamophobia laws but first they need a legal definition of islamophobia.
If you can't define, you can't legislate. That's how law works. The legal definition may be very different to the dictionary definition.
Suppressing public concern is their only concern.

I think she should’ve mentioned what they did that night, though the local mosques came to apologise and encourage other members of their community to not carry this thuggery on.. meanwhile, on the other end of the spectrum, I saw nothing to calm the mobs who tried burning down a hotel, outnumbering and beating up a black man in Manchester, throwing bricks at cops, and smashing up town centres across England. The similarities end once local Islamic preachers came to apologise and went public to calm tensions within their community.
How about making laws for asylum seekers? Illegal migrants? No….

More like trying shut people up with genuine concerns
So you approve of the violent behaviour? You think peddling lies and conspiracy theories is genuine concerns?
"I'm concerned about immigration" is the new "Not racist, but..."
People with "concerns" burning and looting everything they see because that's what a "concerned citizen" does to help their community...sure mate
Sadly most "genuine concerns" have been fed and fanned by grifters for their own ends but once you've started to follow it you get more and more, end up in an echo chamber and confirmation bias kicks in... There is rarely unemotional discussion based on facts. You can tell you've been played when the topic makes you incredibly angry...all logic stops and pure emotion kicks in... Blaming the unemployed, disabled, immigrant workers, asylum seekers, the woke, EU, ECHR, judges, police, etc, etc. All for clicks or to destabilise the UK for commercial rewards or power. It's been working well since the stupidity of Brexit but the disaster capitalist and tax avoiders are thrilled as well as some foreign countries that want to destabilise the UK or want trade deals that are good for them but bad for the UK. Both are going well.
Yep,it's up there with"concerns about closer political ties with Europe "
