  • On May 7, 2000, President Vladimir Putin took the oath of office in Russia’s first democratic transfer of power.
Vladimir Putin took the oath of office, becoming Russia's second democratically elected president at a lavish ceremony in a former czarist throne room in the Kremlin.
Putin took the oath in the ornate Andreyevsky Hall as hundreds of top officials and political leaders watched.
Standing next to him was Russia's first president, Boris Yeltsin.
With his right hand on a copy of the 1993 Russian Constitution, 47-year old Putin took the oath of office.

I'm American but I'm 30% ethnic Russian and I've always thought of Putin more like a czar since he came back in the office in 2012 ..I'm 56 and I grew up in America when this country had morals but George Bush was a warmonger and I had always voted Republican because I'm Christian and Obama and Biden ruined America .Democrat socialist fascist neo-nazis and they spit on Jews and beat them up .they go after mothers and grandmothers and people with morals who don't want their children taught racist or sex and queer Theory garbage and school . it's the truth and what was bad when Obama was in office , the Republicans reformed the Republican party so they weren't warmongers anymore , and if they ever try to do that stuff to us again like George we will get them out of office , but the Democrats continue to get worse and then they went from Democrat socialist fascist to neo-nazis and and I'm at the point where I don't even want to live in America anymore and I've lived here my whole life for 56 years . Are you a Kremlin bot that writes through Google translator?
What successes are you talking about, do you live in Russia, what can you know about life inside the country? Are you aware that many Russian pensioners are forced to dig in garbage cans in search of food, because a penny pension after paying for constantly rising utilities is not enough even for food.
That medicine and education have degraded even more under Putin?
What successes in the international and financial situation are we talking about? Russia depends solely on natural resources and energy prices. Thanks to Putin's efforts, the country has become an outcast in the international arena and is again, as it once was under the USSR, considered an "evil empire". While at the very beginning of the noughties, at the time Putin came to power, Russia was open to the world, and did not oppose itself.
And by the way, about the "first democratic elections" - democratic elections in Russia were back in '96, but under Putin the elections turned into fiction. During all the years of his reign, he did not even take part in any debates.

I remember when he came into power. The country was in ruins, people were divided, jobless, drugged and exploited by the criminal gangs roaming around en masse. Industrial sector was completely destroyed as the factories one by one shut down through out the 90s. It was a horrible place, i still remember ever single damnn busstop becoming home to random homeless, drugged or drunk people. I was just a kid back then and could not understand how horrible it was. Crazy 90s aye. It was the democracy they promised us.
Today we once again can enjoy unity and stability, job places, houses and each family has a car. No more roaming gangs, no more nationalist movements. By today we have rebuilt our economy and industrial sector, not completely yes, but to the point we can live and withstand most deadliest environments on the global market.

@@trickortripslao8607 Putin is just another dictator who established cleptocratic regime in Russia and who will fight for his throne no matter what. Yeltsin saved Russian economy, defended democracy, free speech and the territory of Russia, but never encroached on the territorial integrity of other post-Soviet republics even if it could increase his popularity (Putin, Karadžić and Milošević say "hello"). He prevented Yugoslavian wars 2.0 - post-Soviet edition. He gave maximum autonomy to all the national federal subjects in Russia. He wasn't very "effective manager", he made many mistakes, but he was never afraid of necessary decisions even if they could destroy his ratings. For example, dismantling of the planned economy, the red Soviet nomenclature in the Russian government and the remnants of the totalitarian system in the state structure. In such a difficult matter as the transition to a market economy after more than 70 years of the Red Terror, when the incomes of the population fall at any step you take, and the transition is inevitable in any case, he always took full responsibility. He started his career with 80% support and ended with 3%, but he never suppressed free speech or falsified elections even after giving to the President of Russia ultra-wide powers under the 1993 constitution. He did this to oppose the communists and the Soviet-era nomenclature in parliament. He was scolded for all 9 years of his presidency, but all these 9 years there was democracy in the country (now the words democracy and Russia look rather strange together). He resigned voluntarily, asking forgiveness on New Year's Eve from all Russians for his mistakes. I cried during this speech. He was a man of steel will and a simple human character, although he loved to drink. I love this guy, man. His main mistake was Putin. Yeltsin thought that Putin would continue his economic reforms and democratic way, but super-wide powers of the new president made Putin rule for the next 20 years and made Russia return back into the Soviet times. Now nobody believes that democracy is possible in Russia. Even foreigners don't believe in it. Thanks Vladimir Vladimirovich. In the 90s corruption in Russia was a problem connected with Soviet economic crisis. In Putin's Russia corruption became the system. Did you watch Alexei Navalny's film about the scale of Putin's corruption?

He really loves Russia, there's nobody else like that, especially in the West. Russia is on the right side of history now and despite many obstacles is overcoming all it's problems and has a bright future filled with hope. A lot of people in the West are jealous. 😂 My eternal friendship and support to the Russian family from Poland.
