I always avoided watching this movie because I thought it was boring, but today I gave it a chance because I had nothing else to watch, and let me tell you. It became one of my favourite movies. It inspired me, and made me cry for hours. It left a mark in both my heart and mind forever. What a beautiful masterpiece.
I was stunned by this movie. I found myself so involved in the decisions the characters made, feeling so sorry for them because the line between right and wrong can become so blurry when love is involved. So many decisions and sacrifices made for love. And it ends so poetically, just the way it should. Beautiful story in itself, and the way it was shot and the acting were just the icing on top.
Alicia and Fassbender fell in love making this movie, still togheter. With this director, cant go wrong. And I dont mind if they give away lots of plot because thats not what Cianfrance movies is about, they are about raw feeling.

I read the book while volunteering in Scotland in 2020, because someone left it behind in the caravan I slept in. The story was so sad, I could barely finish it. I wasn't sure if I wanted to see the movie after this, but I'm glad I did. I now bought the book myself and I'm about to pick it up this afternoon. I'm going to prepare myself mentally for reading the book again lol. Not sure if I look forward to it, but I liked the story.

I read the book a while ago and it was so heartfelt, emotional. How the author described Australia after world war one was so vivid like you were there with Tom and Isabelle and Lucy. So vivid were the descriptions of the miscarriages and Her belief she was being punished and how Tom, so stoic, so unemotional and who felt guilt for coming back alive and whole. How he loved his wife with all his heart, how his guilt overcame his love and how something wonderful came out of such a dark time only to be taken awzy again. The description of the lives of the mothers, wives, fathers who lost their sons in Gallipoli, the western front, the desert, buried in a foreign land, never to come home was so moving, full of poignancy and loss. Cant believe this is her only novel. Brilliant, have not seen the movie yet
