It was pure luck that as he was making his way towards the stage I was using the same passage as him and he stopped to let me go first and so I said salam etc etc

I was introduced to qawwali in San Francisco. I forget who performed, it was not Nusrat. I had no knowledge of qawwali, never heard this kind of performance. The show started and within moments I knew this would be very entertaining. A few days after asking around my friends I began to find more qawwali recordings then listened to a Nusrat recording. Wow....I will always be a fan of qawwali and of course Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan!

@@s7unn3rr Thank you. I've educated myself on qawwali music at least the point of understanding some of its history. Forty years ago I tried to learn a bit of Urdu but nothing remains. I have been a fan of Indian classical music since my early teens. Had the great privilege of attending a Ravi Shankar concert in Bangkok in 1966. I was 13 years old and it was the first concert I ever attended. A life-changing experience. I recently discovered that Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was a visiting artist at the University of Washington school of Ethnomusicology in 1993. If only I had known, my wife is a professor at the UW and I might have been able to meet him! Thank you for your thoughts.
