Hero or not, we need to remember at the start of the film you think Brigadier Pratap Singh is evil, merciless, but towards the end of the film, you realize he made a lot of sacrifices for the nation, unfortunately his trust was badly broken by someone very dear to him, which did effect him badly, the vent out anger of Brigadier Singh, should have really happened in front of a therapist not the court , it showed Brigadier Pratap Singh was vulnerable like any human is, but his hatred for a certain group of people was a manifestation and a reflection that he was mentally ill, he was being so strong that no one bothered about his condition,his emotion.
Brigadier Pratap Singh is a reflection of the mental health condition,damaging side effects of "Soldiering".
All Soldiers had wounds from War but B.Pratap Singh's were deeper.

He lost literally every person close to him, he definitely wasn't anti-Muslim before, in the court scene the lawyer mentioned that he loved Jameel. However, Jameel, the guy who he thought he knew, killed his whole family, 3 generations of women, mother, wife, and daughter. Any normal person would develop at least the slightest amount of hate if that happened to them. People talk about losing parents, spouses, and children, but he lost all 3 at the same time, Ik its just a movie but it still stands.
