Tommy is a full-time nomad comfortably living on just $1,200 from Social Security. His home is a Bigfoot camper that he got for free, ingeniously perched on top of a 1999 Chevy HD flatbed truck, which he got for super cheap as well! Tommy has mastered the art of frugal and sustainable living on the road, even in colder climates. What makes his RV setup truly unique is the Marine Woodstove he's installed, a vital component for staying cozy and warm in chilly weather.

Thanks for watching!
❤thank thank you for your service Veterans ❤
Some people are just humble genius's living their lives one day at a time .
While watching, the thought occurred that this man is smarter than most billionaires.
dammm, this guy built hes house,no bills leave for free 💯.
What a great idea installing a marine wood stove! I love his whole setup. I could live comfortably on my social security without worrying about how I’m going to make my check last for a month.
Extra points for the kayak and stuffed bat on the wall.🦇
Hahahaha you noticed my stuffed puppet bat :-) There is a long interesting story behind that Bat. Maybe I share that story some other time..... It's a tiny superlight fiberglass canoe I can pull up to the roof of the camper with a rope. Its powered by a tiny trowling motor and a 50ah lithium battery. I charge it with the camper solar system. I love to explore shorelines :-) ua-cam.com/video/8FCLmET1QT8/v-deo.html
Nice set up very clever man
Amen brother I live on social security disability and in my motorhome off grid and I would love to have a stove fireplace and my motorhome thank you Tommy 😃💖
Whoever set him up with the Bigfoot camper top did him a huge favor, NICE RIG!!!!!!
Tommy seems to be a great person and I'm glad he chose to haul his camper with a dually work truck....I met some folks once that found out the hard way that a pickup truck with single wheels in the rear is simply flirting with disaster after blowing a rear tire, they almost lost their lives! I won't do it anymore!
Great set up . I've got 14 more months till I plan on hitting the road as a nomad . I'm starting to look around and find something to build out for boondocking. Have learned alot from UA-cam and Bob Wells over the past five or so years and can't wait to be free . From Lake Havasu but stuck in Michigan for the next 14 months then Desert here I come.
Smart guy. Made a very comfortable home for himself.
Great explanation which makes complete sense. This guy has got it all worked out.
I have a Newport in my van. Except mine is propane instead of wood. I got it on eBay from a marine dealer for $950 and that included the pipe and the.
Very glad for him. I like the way he has his camper. Comfortable and that's what makes him happy. Very informative. Thank you.
Very nice 👍🏻 Men are fortunate they know how to do all these things 💙
Really enjoy this channel. I wish I could live this life. Seems enjoyable.
Dang i wish i could have gotten a free bigfoot. That is one sweet deal.
INTERESTING COMBO
Another great example of working life out on your terms. Thanks!
Nice set up.
Thanks Bob!
Great rig sor looks very comfortable
Such a smart guy. Has the knowledge one has to have or find in order to be comfortable.
Amazing setup
Very smart man. He must be a great resource for others! Good luck, safe travels.
Wow Amazing love all his ideas great set up👍❤️😀
I've been trying to get into van/truck life for years and being and doing it by myself for myself has been exceptionally hard. No one takes me serious or even tries to work with me. Welcome to Cleveland, you either deceived about what being sold or dismissed as just a woman. Heeelp van lifers deliver me to liberty, please. And thanks Bob for all your help with making me see the worth.
If you are serious, I came across a short bus, and an ambulance is southern ohio a few days ago.
Would love to hang out this fella and learn some things! Enjoyed the video
❤ great idea, very practical 😊 and the kitty thinks so too ❤
We have a 2016 Ford Thor north wind motor home. I like that you said you bought what you can work on. I know some with the engine and have a mechanic son. However I am challenged with the camper part..... I still have a lot to learn before potentially living in it. So that is where I'm focusing. Thank you for sharing your home.
Amazing setup. Best wishes for continued happy travels
Hi Amanda could you do a quick video on how you tie down and keep your Amazon shelves from falling over .. ❤🇨🇦
🏕🏕 Good Show! ... Bruce
The wood stove is very, very nice
Very informative lots of good information Good Job.
Cozy! Very nice!
Bass Pro shop on wheels. 😂 Amazing!
Thank you for sharing this! ❤
Nice fireplace 🤩
Brilliant! Thanks
The most amazing thing about this video is the $1,200 Social security. I was a director and only get $100
Great information!
Very impressive
Where did you get the wall shield ?
I bought aluminum sheets 36x36 inches on Amazon and used a simple pair of metal shears, 2 two by fours to make the bends and a few dozen rivets. The trim is what they use around many door frames. Then I used ceramic spaces to space it a inch off the walls. Whole shield project was about $70
Many times it is forbidden to bring wood from one area to another….what do you do?
All i can say is wow. The same set up new would cost close to $200,000.00 a new bigfoot is around 80 grand and a ram 4500 with a 14 ft aluminum flatbed would be in the $110,000.00 range.
Your correct and just before bob interviewed me I attended this truck camper event just south of Quartzsite in the Road Runner area. They spent big bucks for most all their rigs. There were about 400 truck/camper vehicle there. It was sponsored by Truck Camper Adventures Magazine and most rigs were around the 150K to 200K range. There is a website showing all the rigs online because youtube wont let me post the link here. The were shocked when I said I spent 10k for my truck and camper. But most admitted they would not build their rigs. They preferred buy new setups ready to roll.
Nomads need to organize. Ban together. If we don't stick together we will die alone.
Carbon Monoxide, is that a consideration? That would be my biggest concern!
The stove is vented to bring in fresh air to the burn box and vented through the roof to exhaust the burn gasses. No risk of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. But most newer RV's come with carbon sensor alarms so just incase !!!
Where can I get th steps up to the camper from?
I need help. A while back he posted a 3 part video series on how to buy a used van. I cannot find these videos anywhere. Does anyone have the link??
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Guy might be better off getting 1 of those Dickerson propane heater ,,,who wants to add wood every hr
I fill a little box each day with fire wood. Takes a few minutes then add a piece now and then as needed. I never thought of it as a inconvenience or chore ...
Are most that do this out of necessity?
Many yes... but on BLM lands like quartzsite its common to have a $500 motorhome on both sides of me. They do it for the adventures and many to get out of the snowy cold winter in the north. Snowbirds. south in the winter and back to the north for the cooler summers. All walks of like are out there. Once you get the travel bug its hard to stay in one place for very long....
The government should give back all the taxes that was stolen from our paychecks and maybe folks could live a decent life in the golden years.
He's got a very smart setup. He definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to safety. I love that little stove. Thanks for introducing us Bob
He also had a nice size cooking stove and decent refrigerator. Totally impressed with the whole set up. Beautiful home inside and out.
Kudos to him!
I moved into my 27 foot two slide RV a few months ago and restrict myself to 1000 or less $ a month and am living stress free and happy on five rural acres purchased for 8k with septic and power and a well already setup.
Where did you find land with all that for so cheap?
I'm looking for land myself.
What a deal. Have you been hassled at all for living in your RV on the land?
Wow that's great! I love living frugal too. God bless you 😊🙏
Where?
This is smart because some people get 1200 a month then get a $900 apartment maybe and have to go to church park to pay the rest of the bills. Never ending cycle. This man inspired me
I am disabled...hurt on the job spinal injury..my bills on average is 975 a month...i have two homes..a vacation condo and a house in a gated community...if you get SS or SSDI...can live very well and cheap if you look at all the options and can find a low cost of living country to live..
People don't WANT to pay $900 on an apt, they have no choice! Rents are out of control. Fortunately, he has the skills to do the work, most women don't...thus the extreme poverty of females in this country! 80% of women over 65 are living in POVERTY in America!
Yes. True. I have seen elderly women living on the street eating out of trash cans.
@@valeriehancotte-galan4790my mother-in-law lived in a senior apt and because of her income she only had to pay 200.00 in rent. Maybe you could check into that.
Women who are not brainwashed by femminism are doing just fine. @@valeriehancotte-galan4790
they definitely gave that Bigfoot to the right guy! He's done so much with it and made a wonderful home on wheels.
Good video and nice camper with a unique wood heater ! God Bless !!!
Smart. Thanks for explaining about your work truck, such as dual tires, engine size, gas mileage, no extended cab, etc.
Van life is in my future for sure. This rent is Ridicoulas.
Another fabulous informative interview by Bob. I love the different diverse interviews that I know help others to see this is possible. Thank you Bob for all you do and thank you Tom for sharing with us. Much love and many blessings
That was an impressive interview with Tommy. He does have a great rig. Gives me ideas.
When you want a big truck camper, this is sure the way to go. I'm glad he was able to put it together like this. Thanks Bob for this video.
Dickinson, the manufacturer of that stove, also makes propane fireplaces that have much smaller clearances. They come complete (heater, stove pipe, stainless mounting plate, chimney cap). The propane units have a double chimney that brings outside air into the sealed fireplace so they don't use inside air and they don't put moisture into the space they are heating. I have had one for over 15 years and there has been zero maintenance.
I have the propane model in my truck camper. Saves you time collecting wood. Just swap tanks, easy.
I also prefer the older looking rigs on the outside..mine looks like a junker so I never have to worry about break ins 😂
I’m not as knowledgeable as Tommy, and he has confirmed my suspicions that work trucks are the way to go! The fireplace setup, executed as Tommy has, is a great idea! Thank you both!!
Just wanted everybody to know that a carbon monoxide tester will not test RV propane gas. Only a propane gas detector. Propane gas does not put out carbon monoxide. Love all you folks out there
Social security raise coming in January, I'm sure that will be a big help.
He has a very nice rig there. I wish him many miles of safe travels. Thanks Bob.
Nice set up , can’t speak for USA but here in Australia that a big no no having your gas bottles in the same compartment as electrical components ,
You’ve got gas bottles there I imagine with the regulator, also a generator with electric fittings and exhaust and the rear of a air cond 😕
I store the extra bottle of propane there. Everything propane runs off the campers propane cabinet. I only use the ac a few weeks a year in the north country. I remove the stored propane bottle before I fire up the generator and AC. I mostly just undo the cam quick tie down strap on the generator and chain it to a tree or something big and strong so it doesn't grow legs at 3 am in the morning. But I have used in were its racket strapped down if I feel its not in a safe area. I am sure a better idea will pop up and I will change that setup. This project is on going it will never be done. :-)
Thank you to the person who gave you your rig!!!!! So many of us seniors are living on barely anything, I was so looking for the so-called raise, never saw it!
The worktruck was a great solution. Payload is such a concern with truck campers. Your “truck-talk” was interesting and informative. It's neat to see the big Bigfoot being used with ease.
NICE HOME, NICE SET UP AND A VERY NICE AND INTELLIGENT MAN.
Got e450 with 7.3 for 1500$ low kms. Out the door 7000$ fully equipped bus. Great set up for the little woodstove 👏
Use your SCA coolant and you’re good! If it’s the 7.3 idi you’re set.
@@brendonmasters I actually want to get rid of it. To big and clunky to travel much with and no stealth capability
This man was very smart in purchasing a heavy duty work truck and making it into a great, economical home!
A lot of wisdom put into that rig.
The stove is a game changer turning the camper into a truly comfortable living area.
I like this interview style, vs. a person trying to video themselves giving a tour.
Bravo 👏 thanks for sharing 👍
Tommy seems happy with his set up, but I find it such a shame that our elderly population is given so little to live on especially in today’s inflationary prices. I am not sure, but he might even make too much for food stamps. We need to take care of our elderly, not throw them away and hope they can fend for themselves. Sorry to make this comment not about rv and van living, which I am interested in to travel during retirement, but so many people have to do this and barely can feed themselves and it just makes me sad.
He probably does qualify for food stamps.
Nice job Tommy! I hope you’re loving your life on the road
Great video, great hearing your life, which I'm going to be following. Thank you
I love this kind of life style thank you for amazing video
Really like this guy and his rig!!!
Congrats on using your noggin to design all this.
My mom just passed away and my dad's income isn't enough to pay the bills so this would be perfect for him
I am disabled hurt on the job spinal injury...seattle is not cheap..when i first moved to seattle could get a studio downtown 500 a month..that was 2007..by 15 that same studio was 1.5k...i was priced out of the city i loved..then my country of birth..i now live in a low cost of living country where my bills on average is about 975 a month..i see a doc once a month for 24 dollars..a specialist..in seattle that was over 300...i now have 2 homes a house in a gated community and a vacation condo..my grocery is about 200 a month..can eat out for about 5-6 dollars a person..internet is 26...power/water is usually around the 50 mark...HOA for 2 homes about 50 dollars..my meds each month about 90..my sons catholic private school is 60 a month...think outside the box and find a solution that works best..remember if you get SS or SSDI you can still get your benefits in any country really except for like 12/13 that dont have retirement treaties with the US and trust me you dont want to be in that dozen anyways...best of luck all
We can all learn alot form Tommy, what do you think? Smart guy.
Thanks Bob. Excellent Video. 👍
Great setup and tips about looking for a flatbed work truck (it has great storage too) ...and thank you for spending the additional time on the fireplace setup. It's not "almost like you're home" (6:20), that IS a fantastic home you have there! ...home is where you are. :) ...and, Bob, thanks again for another awesome video!
That was my thought also!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 beautiful!
This was a great informative video. Tommy was a great interviewee and am happy he can enjoy his life. Less is truly best - enjoy yourself, Tommy.
Thanks for all your work Bob. I've learned so much over the years and will take the plunge soon, but keep my home base in eastern Utah
Inspiring build. Intelligent gentleman. Smart use of space and energy.
That rig is great , and a work truck is such a good idea....Loving that woodstove too
Please explain what LQ means. Not everyone is into hauling horses.
Put tire covers on and noodles over the wiper blades to protect from the sun
Thank you gentlemen for sharing 🤟🌏🕊🙏
It is nice to be able to do your own work. I wish I could. I would do this.
Yes, we MUST teach women how to build out vans, tiny homes!
Women have done their own vans
Man woman or child no matter. Your never to old to learn how to fix things. The secret is start with simple repairs and look and learn how it works. Then figure what part broke and figure out how to fix that part. UA-cam is amazing with self repair videos. I find it hard to own something like a RV type vehicle and have to find someone each time I break something. Just the cost along for labor is a heck of a motivator. Start with baby steps and you will find others with skills are happy to teach. Next thing you know your helping someone else :-)
Tommy seems like a really nice guy. I hope he has safe travels
Tommy you have many skills and so much knowledge. You really have made a nice home for yourself. My best to you!
Foresty forest has a wood stove in his van. Thanks so much for sharing 💜
