What a magnificent railroad. Such beautiful locos and rolling stock. And the video almost makes you feel you were there. Videos like this are a godsend to the housebound. Thanks so much for sharing.
I remember taking a ride on this railroad when I was a kid, probably 10 or 11 years old. Shortly after that the tracks were washed out by a flood, I recall. Glad to see it is still going strong
being a fellow south Dakotan. i rode the 1880 train 12 o or more times. loved it. they now have a second 2-6-6-2t that they are gonna restore. plus the 104,s twin the 103 will also get to run. hole the 7 will run sometime soon.
Hey thanks Coaster for comming out to SD (and yes I live in the state) I never really got to see the Black Hills steam locomotives, but I did hear of it. I hoped you had fun filming the trians and our weather wasnt so bad (like quite a lot of times) keep up with your things, your doing great work :3
Man I love this video I go on this train every year with my grandmother some of my freinds say this is a stupid thing to do but everytime I go on its always fun and never is the same
+av8bud Yes, it is one of only two 2-6-6-2T's currently operating. It was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1928 for Weyerhaeuser Timber in Washington state. It was later sold to Rayonier and finally retired in 1968. It was on display at a few different locations before coming here in 1999. Restoration was completed in 2001.
And they are currently restoring another one #108 from a museum in either Washington or California that was looking to reduce its inventory duplicate examples.
CoasterFan2105 because the big boys are one of the most powerful steam engines ever built and they're the most powerful articulated locomotives ever built
+Roy Reynolds The railroad in Strasburg is much older, but this one started as a tourist railroad a year or two earlier in 1957. I think Strasburg was 1959.
Silly question---is this as fast as the train goes through out the whole ride? I am trying to talk myself into a train ride through the west, but I don't ride well with others and I usually do the driving. I'm getting a little anxious just watching the video.......but want to do this!!
That's the first 2-6-6-2 tank engine I've ever seen. I'm surprised it can hold enough water and what little tender it can carry to make it through the trip. Is this a narrow gauge? Of course, the diesels suck.
👌 has to work for my mom and she will get me to meet you up and get you something good to do it haha 😂 morning morning hope you’re having fun with you and you have to go pick you the girls will pick them 👌
+maddennis55 Because several of them were built as interurban electric cars for service in Portland, Oregon. They were converted to coaches for excursion service.

Joe Newstead 7 is able to run they just choose not to run it over 110
Omg the end where you hear it in the distance when your looking at mt Rushmore the echo is beautiful
That's a very cool looking steam train. I like the design of it
If you haven't ridden the Black Hills Central then you really need to! It's a great ride.
+Train Wizard Productions Yes it is!

Nice video. I went here in the Summer of 2019. Woke up early the next day to see the GP9.
Cool! The Black Hills Central Railroad Steam Locomotive shown in this video reminds me of Thomas The Tank Engine because it has a Coal bunker.
+TommyPickles Fan1992 (TommyPicklesfan1992) Thanks Alan!
@Fabian Diaz Thank you!

what a fascinating engine, is this some sort of 2-6-6-2 mallet? Can you tell me more about this engine and it's history?
+av8bud Yes, it is one of only two 2-6-6-2T's currently operating. It was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1928 for Weyerhaeuser Timber in Washington state. +CoasterFan2105 very unique mallet lokomotive! sattletank too

Fantastically very good video! A joy to watch them! Congratulations! mobyka11
+mobyka11 Thank you very much!

The whistle on 110 sounds like the Polar Express!
It probably is a similar one to the one that was used in the PE movie, which came from the Sierra 3.
I believe they're both Lima 5 Chime whistles.
Yes, Sierra No. 3 and BHCR No. 110 both have Lima 5 chime whistles, just slightly different tones
Nice video! This seems like a nice train ride
+TREFan570 Thanks! It is a very neat ride!
Awesome! I was there!
+SamLovesTrains Very cool! It's a neat railroad!
CoasterFan2105 yeah
I would love for the chance to ride one of them old trains
+Kevin Russom They're really cool!
+CoasterFan2105 will you get a chance to see the 4014?
Hopefully when it's restored!
CoasterFan2105 because the big boys are one of the most powerful steam engines ever built and they're the most powerful articulated locomotives ever built
I was there just last summer!
very nice, please do more train talk
+Porsche Carrera GT Thank you! The next Train Talk should be out May 6th!
CoasterFan2105 okay :)
You when to south Dakota in march
Next do a RTD video in Denver pls
I didn't know that Black Hills Central Railroad was in South Dakota! How was Mt. Rushmore
+Owen Meschter It was pretty neat! The railroad actually stops about two or three miles away from Mt. Rushmore, so it's pretty close.
Awesome!!!
I rode that train today Baldwin 110 leading I was in the oroville car
Nice video
+Mark A H HD Videostreaming Thanks!
I understood the Strasburg RR in Pennsylvania is the oldest tourist railroad in the US.
+Roy Reynolds The railroad in Strasburg is much older, but this one started as a tourist railroad a year or two earlier in 1957. I think Strasburg was 1959.

Yes, that's about as fast as it goes, but it's not a very long ride. About an hour and a half round trip if I remember correctly.
@@CoasterFan2105 Perfect! Thanks for the info!!!!!!
That's the first 2-6-6-2 tank engine I've ever seen. I'm surprised it can hold enough water and what little tender it can carry to make it through the trip. Is this a narrow gauge? Of course, the diesels suck.
It is a standard gauge operation. They recently purchased a second 2-6-6-2T, which is being restored.
has anyone noticed that they use coaches really similar to the ones at Srasburg?
These are actually former street cars; while the ones at Strausburg are actual passenger coaches.
Love the steam, hate the diesel.
👌 has to work for my mom and she will get me to meet you up and get you something good to do it haha 😂 morning morning hope you’re having fun with you and you have to go pick you the girls will pick them 👌
I see a deer crossing the road?
3:59 sounds like polar express
Why do the cars look like interurban trailer cars?
