I've tried having hens raise by themselves. From the looks of it, they found it very hard and there came a point where they weren't that interested in feeding and wanted to focus on a new nest. Likely that was individual to my hens as I know lots of people let the hens raise by themselves. But I don't think that, if I can help it, I will ever have a season where birds aren't paired. I have been so impressed with how some of the male canaries handle fatherhood, with 2 of them even sitting on the nest to keep the eggs or chicks warm while the hen is having her break.. As always; a great video and I am looking forward to the next :)
