Awesome job boys... We made something like this with pallets back in '91. Didn't work but im gonna make a giant barge sized one since im a painter and have limitless supply of buckets. The ratchet strap idea is great.
You should have put the buckets right side up and secure it to plywood deck. You would have more room and the raft will be more stable. 3 buckets on each side of a 4x6 plywood can support a total of 246 pounds.
I am happy to report that my raft worked insanely well! Although we did use some plywood and 2x4s. It floated and we ended up catching 3 sunfish of off it!
