  • In this second installment on getting my late Father's vintage Austin Heavy 12/4 back on the road, the car is moved to AJF Motor Engineers - ajfmotorengine... They are the best guys for this kind of car.
    A couple of you said you thought the car is a Turnham and not a Windsor. What do others think?

    I learnt to drive on a 1927 Austin heavy 12/4 Clifton, without the optional electric starting! Funny story, I got pulled in Abergavenny, late 60's for speeding in a 60 mph! 😅😅😅 I took the Austin manual handbook to the magistrates court that stated, categorically , the maximum speed to be 47mph! 🤗😀 Case dismissed... 👌

      That is a great story! Both you learning to drive in one and a court case that would make good telly! Thanks for watching and do keep an eye out for more on this car.

      Thanks Mark. Just need to really get it running, take it to a couple of shows and then hopefully sell it.

    Its a Burnam as the Windsor has shorter doors and a sill underneath. The body is Aluminium with steel wings and scuttle.

    Seeing the more - than - adequate legroom IN THE BACK - confirms it can't possibly be French or German.
    Their cars are to this day, a DISASTER in that respect!

    All the weight was on the valve. If the car had been pushed a fraction so the valve wasn't being sat on it wound have been easier to manipulate and pull it out of the wheel. It should have had a ring on the body of the valve to stop it from disappearing into the wheel.

      That's good advice! Hopefully one we don't have to follow once the car is fixed!

    Is the car a Burnham, or a Windsor? I thought it ws called a CLIFTON. Please explain!

    • @crashbox7130
      @crashbox7130 6 місяців тому

      I would say it's a Burnham, which was produced between August 1928 and October 1932. This particular car was register in October 1930. The Clifton was the Tourer (open four-seater).

      My late Father was convinced it was a Windsor but the consensus seems to say it is a Turnham. Hopefully getting a Heritage cert for the car will clear things up!
