I think the alpha legions aren't traitors. I think they're the emperor's long game. Stabbing chaos in the back at literally every turn. My best example is "Vraks" where the alpha legions feeds literally dozen or two warbands of bunch of different traitor groups including plague marines, and iron warrior warbands, and the best yet is they feed traitor TITANS into a campaign that they know will end in imperial victory. Causing basically an entire traitor titan legion to be lost, multiple warbands almost completely destroyed, if not completely...And then sat back and watched the show. It was the most troll move possible. And the best part is because they made it seem like it was an actual fight, no one on the traitor side would be the wiser that they were fed into a perfect killing zone.
@@NeiasaurusCreations They are full on traitors, read some of the newer stuff about them, specifically about the Unsung. This video style is very well made and it clearly takes so much time to research, script and put together, props - there are other lore channels I've watched but they tend to have somewhat clunky writing and tacked on skits etc., so I'm glad to have found one that's so well written and focused on the lore itself
been watching you for a while , still cant state enough how much i love your manner of story telling . Keep up the great work mate and May God Emperor watch over you .
One thing you can say about the alpha legion and their daddy regardless who is speaking no matter how squirrlie, mean or down right there nicest person ever, alpharius makes a consistent impression with nearly all personality types. Kurz was blunt as few ever could be and vulcan and sanguinius spoke of him exactly like dorn and kurz did. Man what a character. “But, By The Throne, not ever have I found myself in such an infernal pit of non evidence…” Don’t think about it too hard, your head will start to hurt
I was wondering the same myself and then I got to thinking. And honestly this seems very plausible, my own theory was that the emperor was secretly funneling resources from forgeworlds and having the techpriests lie about " manufacturing issues " and " faulty batches with the newer models ". Maybe it was a combination of both?
My feeling is that the XI, XVII and XX legions were the only ones which the Emperor intended to survive the Great Crusade. All the other Astartes were necessarily disposable. It may even be that knowledge of this was what doomed the II and XI legions.
The XV as well -- their fall is tragic, and Magnus was meant to sit the Golden Throne. He'd need his sons to do it -- a legion that would have served as /his/ Custodians.
@@jonsalvadori6275 dunno if the Legion were needed for Magnus to do the golden throne/webway thing and if it came to sacrificing them I feel like Magnus was/is a ends justify the means kida guy.
@@matthewmcneany i wrote this post just before I finished "Fury of Magnus." The new solar war novella. Suffice to say, no spoilers: you were right, I was wrong. Literally cried a little on finishing it, because /that/ was not what I expected at all.. Spoiler below. Emps made magnus the offer to return to his side, no problem. All it would cost Magnus was the Thousand Sons -- /his/ sons. He did not accept the offer, and that's why history turned out this way.
@@jonsalvadori6275 You've inadvertently set off my 40k lore rant mode (appologies in advance): I'm a big fan of the (somewhat more oldschool) 'no one piece of 40k lore is definitive' school of thought and if you have to creativly interpret something to justify a cool or interesting hypothesis that fits whatever narrative you think is best for a character then don't worry about it - 40k is about saying whatever sh*t sounds cool at the time and (maybe) working out the details after the fact. Characters in 40k can be pretty inconsistent over the 30+ years or whatever they've been writing and it's way more important to have fun with the lore, games and models than it is to "be correct" - If you can come up with a justification for seeing something a particular way even if its a minority opinion then there's an in universe justification for some heretical sect in the inquesition or rogue Astartae chapter believing it. If you want to exlore a paricular action a particular character took because it doesn't fit into you head cannon then that's a worthwile and genuinely intersting way to engage with the lore. Or at least that's my 2 cents when it comes to lore. I haven't read 'Fury..' though I'm aware of the relevant lore point (and hear the book is really well written) but there's two points I think: Firstly, He made that decision in that context but he could have made a differnt one in a differnt context, even faced with the same choice - people (even demi-God people) are like that. But back to my broader point - it kinda comes down to (my opinion - shared by some people in the community that) all lore is esentially a single perspective of events from narrators of varying degrees of unreliablilty - which is why retcons should be such a non-issue. The question of if an event happened the way it was told in a certain novel, army book, etc. is always up for debate imo.I know not everyone like this idea but I think its one reason the franchise has lasted and grown and I find the fact that everyone has their own (slightly) differnt headcannon kinda neat. Back to Magnus, if someone wanted to - not saying that you should see it this way but as an specific example of what I'm trying to say someone could do this - Use the loyalist Space marine codex and build an army armoud a splinter cell of loyalist thousand sons (and/or Blood Ravens) chapter who's absolute belief in the goodness of their primarch and loyalty to the Emperor protects them from Rubric and who through some prophetic vision think they know the actual truth of Magnus' downfall (which can be whatever crazy theory you want it to be - or even who believe that he did nothing wrong _and are in your own headcannon wrong about that fact_ but their belief leads them down some tragic or heroic path - indeed what could be more apt and tragic than some successors to the thousnad sons who are seeking forbidden knowledge that doesn't exist in a vain attempt to prove litterally everyone else in the galaxy wrong and never will) - and all of that is to me more at least as interesting an idea as someone who says: I'm going to play a standard Thousand Son's chaos warband - not that playing/building a standard lore army can't also have really interesting themes and stories to explore too. I've always thought that the point of 40k is to give (alright sell) people the tools to tell whatever stories they want to tell, and part of the point about the traditional scope and scale and vagueness of 40k is so there's deliberately room for the werid and niche stories alongside the 'Fall of Cadia's even when they seem contradictory. Somewhere deep in the Grim darkness of the far future there's anything and everything your imagination can create. Anyway, that's my way too overthought 40k lore TED talk. tl;dr telling fun stories is the most important thing by far.
@@matthewmcneany In my head, Magnus is the key figure in the whole Horus Humbug, and he's the reason I really got deep into the lore for HH. I own all the books. All of them, lol -- it's a lot of shelf space. He's the "best" of the primarchs because he didn't mean to get suckered into chaos, didn't like it, and wishes most of all for redemption. He's the only one whose fall was actually really tragic. Probably I identify with him so much because I too made similar mistakes -- I thought I could dabble in darkness (drugs sex gambling etc) and that I was strong enough that all those warnings about the dangers were for someone else -- someone weaker and dumber than I was. Darkness consumed me for ten years, and redemption has been a much harder road to travel. My XVth guys are a lighter shade of blue, because I've never believed the Thousand Sons to be anything other than a tragic story -- they're not evil. They're not even misguided. They just made a series of bad decisions.
Itd be kinda cool if when one of the twin primarchs died, an astartes began to grow into a primarch, becoming omegon in training to the veteran alfarius. The first and the last, but in true alpha legion fashion, a complete lie.
Real talk after reading "legion" I see alpha legion now as legit bad ass as fuck legion. What an eye opening book and an explosive ending literally. For the emperor.....
The picture at 4:30, he has MK 3 armor on with a Corvus or Corax style helmet. Is that right? The Traitors didn't have access to that MK did they? But with it being the 20th, it actually makes a little sense.
The picture may take artistic licence but it's canon that the XX Legion DID literally intercept and divert shipments of Mk.VI Corvus armour to it's assets as it was literally fresh off the production lines.
No mention of Omegamon or Sigmar? You do know there are 3 of them. 3 Hydra Heads. Also in an old 40k book, there are 3 skulls together, 1 with A, 1 with O and 1 with S. There is either another brother Sigmar making them Triplets instead of twins in 40k or the other brother is Sigmar, from Age of Sigmar.
My opinion on the Alpha Legion is........... ?.......... Alpharius li............ .............. Omegon was........... ................... Shadow Raids............ ..................Loyal to The Imp................
The reason that the 1st and 20th Legions are similar is that each represented a legion without genetic focus. They were both made to contain all specialisms and conduct warfare in whatever fashion necessary. This lent itself to nearly paranoid internal security, counterintelligence, and opaque purpose. This is also why they despised working near one another, each lacked too much intelligence on the other and feared infiltration too much. Whereas the 1st was the banner carrier and prototype, it's image formed before all others even existed, the 20th was formless, therefore able to take any form. For the Lion.
I believe that the Alpha Legion might be the most unified or the most shattered traitor legion. Their means of combat doctrine allows their companies to act on their own, but also to the single battle brother could act on their own. There is also the usage of non-argument humans as both soldiers and spies, and to great affect. There is also the fact that this Legion had two Primarch, and perhaps this could explain why the Alpha Legion was so indecisive in the Horus Heresy, perhaps both the twins had different ideas of both how to combat the Imperium , but more interesting is the fact that they might be loyal to the Imperium. Though considering that the Alpha Legion is the most deceitful and manipulative when it comes to wet work and inflation, and everything they say and everything we find in records might not be the whole truth.
Love the Alpha Legion. What other videos do you have covering them? I like to think Alpharius was born on Terra and Omegon was the one tortured by Sloths

This video style is very well made and it clearly takes so much time to research, script and put together, props - there are other lore channels I've watched but they tend to have somewhat clunky writing and tacked on skits etc., so I'm glad to have found one that's so well written and focused on the lore itself
amazed that this vid on the origins and history of the Alpha boys isn't him just going "FUCK KNOWS!" over and over for 20 minutes
They always ask "who is Alpharius?", but no one asks "how is Alpharius?"
:(
Don't worry, I am well.
Sometimes it gets lonely knowing that there isn’t a soul that truly knows me.

Genius.
*...IT ACTUALLY WORKS*
Marvelous work sir! However, I begin to wonder about myself while I laughed maniacly during your introductory expressions of mental agony.
been watching you for a while , still cant state enough how much i love your manner of story telling .
A person who is a character by his sheer lack of any personal character at all. Fitting.
Ahh, my scalibois. I would thank Alpharius if I was not, in fact, Alpharius myself for my hard work and cunning.
This video seems to be missing from the Legiones Astartes playlist
I've been reading the Horus Heresy series and it's amazing! Good timing for this video.
The books with the alpha legion are so damn good...
@@Serpentaxuk I'm looking forward to them!
best lore channel in realspace
It is likely that this account, however, is a lie.
If it were true the Oculus would have fallen down some stairs long before he could release this recording to the archives.
Finally!! I've been waiting for this one ever since I found your channel! Excellent work as always!
Another excellent record, Remembrancer! Alpha Legion, along with their Primarch(s), have always been one of the more interesting legions.
I'd love to see you do more records about the various chapters that descended from these various legions, like the Black Templars, Iron Snakes, etc.
This was an excellent post. Thank you for making this video, it was exhilarating and insightful.
Easily the most interesting legion. I always loved the idea of a Space Marine CIA. Keep up the fantastick work!!
Please do a video about the Thunder Warriors! It would be so cool!
Remember the Geno 5-2 Chiliad
Never forget, the tragedy that occurred that day, at the behest of the xenos, by the hand of the traitor Alpha Legion.
I wish there was something more than just liking it. Your channel deserves all the praise heaped upon it and more!
I've been patiently awaiting this one. Thank you

Scare and this one was a heavy one 😂
“But, By The Throne, not ever have I found myself in such an infernal pit of non evidence…”
Don’t think about it too hard, your head will start to hurt
As always, an excellent video! Thank you for sacrificing your sanity on the altar of our enjoyment!
Yet again, you knocked it out the ball park!
Love your channel man, really appreciate the way you deliver the lore. 😁
Amazing video. Thank you
Ah yes, the embodiment of the phrase "... or is it?"
They certainly are! .... or are they?
all three origin stories are true there are three heads of the Hydra
I dont care what anyone says, Alpha's reticulated armor is the coolest fuckin design of any Astartes legion.
Ok. I actually have a theory of how the alpha legion manage to arm itself overnight. the 2nd and 11th had to have material and weapons
Iam Alpharius.
No, iam Alpharius.
No wait. Iam Alpharius!
I'm Alpharius and so's my wife!
Sup
Oh I've been looking forward to this one.
@@jonsalvadori6275 You've inadvertently set off my 40k lore rant mode (appologies in advance):
I'm a big fan of the (somewhat more oldschool) 'no one piece of 40k lore is definitive' school of thought and if you have to creativly interpret something to justify a cool or interesting hypothesis that fits whatever narrative you think is best for a character then don't worry about it - 40k is about saying whatever sh*t sounds cool at the time and (maybe) working out the details after the fact.
*Guy On Bench with newspaper nods in respect*
Love it man. Although I can't see the vids as you release them anymore on the day off, this was good
Best legion by the best lore channel
Real talk after reading "legion" I see alpha legion now as legit bad ass as fuck legion. What an eye opening book and an explosive ending literally. For the emperor.....
Glorious day citizens, the most important of the emperor loyal legions has is tale told! FOR THE EMPEROR
By me (Alpharius of course)
Yes!!! Yes!!! Yes!!! By far the legion I have been waiting for
The picture at 4:30, he has MK 3 armor on with a Corvus or Corax style helmet.
Imagine figuring out who ordered what.
"I've got a cheeseburger for an Alpharius"
Entire company: "that's for me!"
Once again the absolute business.
Was expecting 30 minutes of Oculus just saying "redacted", or "classified". Actually learned stuff. And now I am afraid.
FINALLY! HYDRA DOMINATUS!
'these accounts are likely lies' needs to be on a t-shirt!!!!
Thanks for another great story, Ave ocolus Imperia.
Hail Hydra!
*(Both Fists In The Air)*
Hydra dominatus
Love the Alpha Legion. What other videos do you have covering them? I like to think Alpharius was born on Terra and Omegon was the one tortured by Sloths
Will the real Alpharius please stand up, please stand up, please stand up...
A very extremely awesome video as always Oculus Imperia. And the alpha legion is a very secret first founding legion.
Man I hate when people don't upload for a while. If only where was some new video to watch from Oculus Imperia.
Just heard about the new Alpharius Primarch book. So.... Might need an addendum to this video. The deception of the Alpha Legion is truly beyond any of our understanding.
Or maybe it doesn't need one. I mean, it was written in the perspective of Alpharius.
This series reminds me of the works of documentarian Ken Burns from ancient Terra...
