T.I.R. - Total Immersion of ReZOMBIzation. Full respect from Hungary for all the Performers who maintain alive the biggest Genius of the '70s. Long live, Fela Kuti!
Yes Mon it's his Wilderness Wild Bill played an danced in Dakar Senegal West AfricaI WAS a Male African Dancer had some beautiful Groupies, 100s of gigs. I'm 81 now and am a performer. Play talking drum, sekere, bell, clave and can sing! Have a blood clot on one of my lungs right now but a bit of inspiration (tincture) and I'm goood to go!! Playing with jazz players?or anyone. A bit of face paint and all systems are go. Newen Afrobeat Is Plenty Bad Amen
Newen Afrobeat was founded in 2009 by the Chilean composer and singer Nicholás Urbina, who composed the music for the first, eponymous, album released in 2013.[1][3][4] The intro of the first song Santiago incorporates parts of José Mujica's speech originally delivered in front of the 2013 UN General Assembly.[5] Urbina relocated to the United States in the mid-2010s. The group's last concert with Urbina was at the Felabration Festival in Lagos in 2016 (founded by Yeni Kuti in 1998). Without Urbina the group continued after various member changes and reformed into a collective releasing the EP Newen Plays Fela in 2017.[6] A third album, Curiche (a Mapuchian word meaning 'black person'), was released in February 2019.[7][4] The EP Newen Plays Fela Vol. II was released in 2021. Style Their style finds its inspiration in the Nigerian Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and their repertoire includes a number of Kuti's titles. Their music is also influenced by the aboriginal roots of their own country. Their songs celebrate the environment, indigenous rights, women's empowerment, and multiculturalism. Newen Afrobeat's live performances are also demonstrations in support of the Mapuche cause.[8]
know what would make a cool vid? one showing them putting on their makeup! :-) that drummer can't be beat! best band on the planet!! man, wish I could understand the lyrics! sempre avanti, Newen!!
I'm such a huge fan of these guys. Thanks for putting this together. there's actually even more clips/songs by them. I must have watched this rendition of 'Zombie' 100 times. The absolute best moment (among many) is at 31:07 when the drummer Tito, drops that snare hit to cue the horns back in. EDIT: I apologize; I did not know you had this in two separate volumes. I just saw the whole clip of '12-'17. Gracias.
thank you very much for putting all of this together i know it takes time and effort AND i watched a performance i had not seen before,, i spread the love of Newen Afrobeat far and wide here in northern california
They are playful, wonderful musicians, they wipe off all breakdown demons with a strong humanity, moreover their musical structures remind repetitive music (steve reich and phil glass), warm sunny wave of hapiness ( I bumpep too on Opposite people since I an fascinated)///
I can see the US music industry is slipping from the top position. I'm pretty sure they have negotiated a contract with US company but were rejected. This isn't Chilean music they are playing, it's multinational music. So called Brazilian music(Bossa nova) are not Brazilian native music but recorded in NY promoted by the American company,
