alagna's interpretation of the character is more realistic, complex and comfortable for me. he shows pity for her, hears her out, but gives her a way out -- instead of the one-dimensional, repetitive emotions of other tenors in this role. And that last attempt to tell him that she's pregnant is the one thing that is missing in other interpretations. With that one gesture, her desperation and curse at him makes much more sense.

I watched PAGLIACCI from Choregies d'Orange and Alagna was sensational but I never usually liked CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA. But this production is amazing. Love the giant rosary on the set and how Santuzza sees the body of Christ in the opening of the opera which then becomes Turiddu/ Alagna in the tragic finale. Bravi tutti.❤

Dans l'intermezzo, il y a quelque chose qui m'a profondément ému (ce morceau de musique y était probablement pour quelque chose) malgré mon âge avancé, dans cet homme dont le visage vieilli ressemblait étrangement à celui de mon père, lui aussi disparu (à 103 ans)
ce qui m'a touché, c'est cette même maigre chevelure blanchie par les années légèrement agitée par le vent. ce chef que j'ai connu splendide homme jeune et déjà en pleine possession de son art avec cette maîtrise, cet élan et cette foi en la vie, foi pleine d'optimisme et qui ne l'ont jamais quitté tout au long de sa vie
Les hommes de génie passent mais leur souvenir demeure éternellement dans ce vrai tombeau qu'est le cœur des vivants, surtout chez ceux qui ont été leurs contemporains dans la presque totalité de leur siècle.

Everything about this production was beautiful. The set design was fantastic.
Yes, it is a nice production for the most part, but why are Turiddu and Lola openly flirting with each other where everybody can see them? In the world in which they live that can literally get them killed. No need for a Santuzza!

This is the first Turridu I've ever seen who showed any anguish about Santuzza's plight. But ultimately he gives in to his lust for Lola. What acting. I mean on the part of all the cast, and the singing too. I know French better than Italian. I finally understand Santuzza saying that Turridu deprived her of her honor. To know it is one thing. To hear her say it is quite something else.

La voz de Lola me suena filosa, cortante... será porque es Gillet? 😀Fuera de bromas una puesta muy bella, sencilla, funcional, dinámica, no distractiva. El coro es excelente en todo sentido; suena homogéneo, popular, sin estridencias, actúa muy bien y la orquesta es magnífica, los metales suenan soberbios, cosa infrecuente, y mi adorado Prétre a la altura de sus antecedentes. Alagna es un cantante maravilloso y su personaje está muy bien compuesto, así como el del barítono,. Ambas voces responden muy bien al verismo y sus colores son bien contrastantes. Las tres protagonistas femeninas muy bien en su rol. Con lo hermosa que es esta Santuzza, a quién se le ocurre meterse con Lola:.¡testa di tenore!!! Gracias!!!! Postdata; siempre me impresiona el principio de esta ópera por su clima de zarzuela!

Always talking about the intermezzo but all the entire opera is beautiful, from beginnijg to end.

A great opera, but who can deny the show is stolen by the intermezzo. One of the finest pieces of music ever written. The strings are simply sublime. Thank you Mascagni.

This is my beloved opera and this particular staging is so impressive! I loved the stage disign a lot - it creates the atmosphere and a feeling that everything is happening in front of Christ and no one pays attention to it, blinded by passion... Could someone tell me what was the place of this staging?

Di stefano is unsurpassed in this role and Alagna shouts too much, uria monzon's voice and interpretation is beautiful and Alfio sung by Panerai cannot be beaten. voices of the past that will remain forever. And the Georges Prêtre direction is of a truly absolute intensity
Alanna absolutely splendid in this role as in Carmen. Both characters suit his temperament and he has the phisique du role. The soprano was equally expressive and the Lola terrific. Would she and Turuddu however ,behave so blatantly in front of all of those Sicilian peasants and in that repressive culture ? Great theatre nevertheless.

Beautiful production overall, but my beloved Uria-Moson is a bit too "passionate" sometimes on the border of shrill, unnecessary with such a colorful, dramatic and strong voice, see her Carmen !

Magnificent, simply magnificent!!! This is the first time that I’ve watched the complete opera and oh how I enjoyed it; simply spell binding. I don’t speak Italian (or for that matter anything but English) but it made no difference to me. I looked up the story on Google. The cast were magnificent as was the orchestra, but during the Intermezzo I watched the conductor and saw him totally immersed in the music; it was very moving. Unfortunately I don’t know his name, could someone let me know please. The Intermezzo is one of my favourite pieces of music, I’ve played it countless times and it will be played at my funeral for the last time for me.
The director of orchestra is Georges Prêtre. He really gets the music as shown in the intermezzo, which is a masterpiece.
I was in the chorus when our college opera company staged this opera twice about two years apart. The melodies and the plot were spell binding even for all of us performers. We'd hang out back stage just to hear it even if we were not going on stage for a while.

I played this song(intermezzo ) for my uncles last few minutes of his life. It helped him make peace with God and transition into his journey in Heaven. At end of song he opened his eyes , smiled and took his last breath. It was very heart warming
It's often one won't look for the operas Roberto Alagna sings and when one finds him again one wonders why not? His voice is very beautiful, his acting excellent (his "Pagliacci", for instance, is better than Jonas Kaufmann's), his personality most agreeable. He deserves more frequency than he gets from us. Easily solved: from now on we'll watch at least two of his operas a week at home, I'll buy his records and we'll be enriched by Alagna's talents. As we are by this superb version of "Cavalleria".
Kaufmann's passagio is like fingernails on a chalkboard.
And the amazing George Prêtre and the Belgian soprano Anne - Catherine Gilet so nice Lola and the two stunning performers Mr Alagna and Mrs Uri-Monzon, one of my big regret, i was often in Orange but not this time🌚🎶👏🔥🙌

A superb performance of Mascagni's one-act masterwork. Roberto Alagna and Beatrice Urla-Monzon brought power and passion to their portrayals of Turiddu and Santuzza. There were also fine performances by the baritone, the two mezzo-sopranos, the choir and the orchestra, all under the skilled baton of veteran maestro Georges Pretre.
