A radio receiver with a solar battery "Lel" was produced by the Novgorod plant named after the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution in the first quarter of 1985. "Lel" is the first domestic receiver in which, along with a battery of 2 AA elements, a solar battery is used. It was developed at the Popov IRPA together with the Novgorod software "Start" based on the serial radio receiver "Svirel". Like the prototype, ''Lel'' is designed for reception in the MW range with a built-in magnetic antenna. The solar battery was developed at NPO "Kvant" from monocrystalline silicon with a working area of 70 cm. Dimensions of the battery are 115x65 mm, output power at illumination of 500 W/m is 300 mW. In illumination conditions of 250 W/m (light clouds), it ensures the operation of the radio without consuming energy from the elements. The SB is placed on a hinged cover on the rear wall and is protected by glass. The hinges of the SB allow it to be rotated around its axis by 180 degrees. Receiver sensitivity 2 mV/m, selectivity 12 dB, mirror channel 26 dB. Rated output power 40 mW, maximum 100. Operating sound frequency range 450...2500 Hz. Minimum power supply 2 V, nominal 3 V, maximum 6 V. Quiescent current 15 mA. Receiver dimensions 145x72x25 mm. Weight 240 g. Price 54 rubles.

That's a cool radio. I love seeing all the interesting tech and innovations that they were coming out with during that time.

The solar panel is simply paralelled with the AA batteries, only a single series diode to prevent the batteries backfeeding into the solar panel, but the solar panel can charge the batteries. So it is probably intended for NiCd AA cells, not for regular primary AA cells (there's a good chance that's the reason why it has battery leakage, charging primary batteries can result in that).
