The WGC - FedEx St. Jude Invitational is the third WGC of the year. Earlier this year, Collin Morikawa won the WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession 2021, while Billy Horschel captured the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. From Tokyo to Memphis, Gold Medal winner Xander Schauffele is just one of a host of players making their way back from the Olympic Games to compete at TPC Southwind this week. He’s the only medal winner in the field this week, but will be joined by Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama and Paul Casey, who were all involved in the seven-man play-off for the Bronze Medal eventually won by C.T. Pan. Justin Thomas went into the final round of last year’s tournament four shots behind the leader and went on to win by three. It was an impressive fightback, and the American has returned to defend his title following a tie for 22nd at the Olympics. He’ll be fending off a strong challenge from the world’s best, which includes Brooks Koepka. The American won in 2019, finished second last season, and is only one of two players who has finished inside the top 10 on the last two occasions.

Those greens were smooth and putting true for Cameron. The conditions were like Winged Foot during the 1959 US Open when great putters like winner Billy Casper and runner-up Bob Rosburg topped the leaderboard.
He stayed with my family friends for a tournament around my house a few years ago in Minnesota while he was a junior

Turns out the secret to 18 putts in a round isn’t a lot of 1 putts, it’s having some 0 putts
Or more precisely, it's missing a lot of greens (barely).

I had 24 putts once, thought I should sign up for the PGA Tour ;-) but 18 is ridiculous.

Hi. Its a World Golf Championship (WGC) event, sanctioned by both European Tour and PGA Tour - European Tour just got their highlights out first.
He was actually 2nd in Strokes Gained Putting! That's why Total Putts is a fairly meaningless stat!

It doesn't matter what club you use if you're off the putting surface because it only counts as a putt if you're on the putting surface. PERIOD ¿`_

It's luck if you do it just once, but if you keep doing it throughout a round, that would indicate skill as well as a bit of luck... You need skills to be able to put yourself in a position to get lucky.
he's one of my favourite players but this putts counts is a little bit meaningless. You just need luck that instead of stopping in the green, the ball goes 5cm into the fringe, and that will not count as a putt. Nevertheless, he's one of the best putter players in the world.

If he misses the green, it allows him to use his skills to get up and down so that he doesn't have to two putt...
If he uses a putter it's a putt.. That's 21 putts, not 18
Has to be on the green for it to be a regulation putt. Off the green it's just another shot.
And when I forget to bring my putter and I putt instead with my longest iron I have zero putts? ;-)

I've never really understood why a putt from just off the green doesn't actually count as a putt. Any time you use your putter it should count. Idk. But still pretty cool!
Maybe the same reason as using a wedge from 1 ft to tap in would count as a putt.

I could maybe beat that if the score doesn‘t matter. It takes probably 200+ shots, but you could always chip it as close as possible to the fringe and have a go at it. One or two will fall (one would think). It will take 6h or more for sure. Everyone will hate me… Sounds interesting
