Thank you everyone for joining my journey in building a tortoise oasis! Comment below with name suggestions for the new male Burmese Star Tortoise. You could name an animal that will outlast us all, there will be a poll later with the top 3 names!
Great enclosure and love, love, love the new water pond. Great sides for them to climb and use their leg muscles! You inspired me to do this for my red foots. Thank you! 🐢🐢
You are a beast picking up the concrete with ur hands…. But I think u should name Tim short for Timothy, did Jim and the other one come from the same liter? I
Nope, I purposely did not seal the cement so it will drain overnight, the next morning all debris is swept out and it’s refilled with clean water. This way there is zero algae buildup and the water is always super clean.
I have not, I use electric fencing and have a few traps set around the property frequently as well as motion activated flood lights. Lots of owls, so mice aren’t an issue. Haven’t seen raccoons in a few years.
Ants can be very tricky to get rid of, I’ve tried diatomaceous earth, pouring boiling water. These are all temporary fixes. What I find works best is placing bait traps outside the enclosures to lure them out. You may have to replace these a few times but it will eventually fix the issue. Hope this helps!

Do you ever have predator issues?

Also I find the ants LOVE to build their nest under food and water dishes which is why I poured concrete for the pools. Now it’s no longer an issue.
